[WORK AND AUTHOR]
ES: Eternal Sabbath is a drama, science fiction, and supernatural manga, written and drawn by the author Fuyumi Souryo, which has eighty-three chapters published from 2001 to 2004. I worked with Shoujo, for Seinen. It is important to say that Souryo is a veteran mangaka who has been publishing works since the 80s and continues to be active until today, with her most recent work: Cesare: Hakai no Souzousha, ending in 2021.
[PLOT AND CONTEXT]
In this work, Souryo slaps the characters and the reader in the face by raising questions about the importance of life, which seems to be a recurring theme in the
...
author's works, especially in ES, this is addressed explicitly and disturbingly, joining to this the evil that seems inherent to human beings. The fact is that human beings can be very hypocritical when it comes to this topic: Are we in favor of life, but do we wish for the death of our neighbor? The will to be superior to illness and overcome death, the will to become God and decide who lives and who dies, who are we to want that?
Regarding the name of the work, I found it especially interesting to do a little research and came to the following conclusions:
Sabbath is a holy day in Judaism and we see in the story that the character Isaac is named as a reference to the story of Abraham and Isaac from the texts of the Torah and the Christian Bible.
Witches' Sabbath, on the other hand, has a dark and macabre context, where supposedly witches celebrated in the presence of the devil during the night, where orgies, cannibalism, and all kinds of bad things happened. Honestly, an Eternal Sabbath in this context makes a lot of sense with the work.
Perhaps the author also uses references to the songs of the British heavy metal band formed in 1968, Black Sabbath, such as the song Paranoid, which reminds me a lot of Shuro. But that's just my guess.
Furthermore, I noticed a clear reference to the film The Matrix (1999), in terms of questioning reality, absurd things happening and not happening in the real world, and leather clothes. Which I thought was incredible.
[CHARACTERS]
What I can say about the characters is that they are quirky and interesting. They all serve very well to create the heavy and dark atmosphere of this horror tale which, despite not being perfect, is very worth reading.

[WORK AND AUTHOR]
Re Re Hello is a manga written by manga artist Touko Minami, born in Saitama Prefecture, which probably debuted in 2002 with a short story called “Guuzen ka Unmei ka”. He has ten published works in total, including the most recent “Koi no Youna Mono ja Naku”, which has been published since 2020; among them, Re Re Hello is his best-rated work, according to information from My Anime List. Furthermore, I found no information about the author on the internet, in English or Portuguese.
[HISTORY]
Regarding the story, I would say that all the characters in the work are well-written. I especially liked Ririko, who
...
is a solid character and different from others I've seen, as she works a lot (literally), which is funny. Minato, on the other hand, is dull. But, with Ririko it becomes interesting, making super cute couple scenes possible. The author's lines are very beautiful to read and the plot is generally well written. The penultimate arc I thought was unnecessary because it could have focused more on Ririko and Minato's relationship, but it was well-written too. The ending was rushed, but I think it wasn't bad. Overall, it's a good story and I recommend reading it!
[MORE+]
An interesting fact is that before Re Re Hello, the characters Towa, Ririko, and Hata appear in a short story called “Mebuki Kimidori”, released two months before Re Re Hello. And honestly I would find it interesting if it were a complete story.

[WORK AND AUTHOR] P to JK - Police and Joshi Kousei (High School Girl) is a manga of the romance genre and shoujo demography, written and drawn by Maki Miyoshi, and which has sixty-five chapters published between 2012 and 2020.
Miyoshi began his career as a manga artist in early 2009 by publishing a one-shot called "Akarui Mirai" within the Kindan no Koibito collection published by Bessatsu.
She worked on a few more small projects before starting P to JK, her most successful work. Winning the 41st Kodansha Manga Awards in the shoujo category and having his work adapted for live action in 2017. His most recent
...
work is called Yoru no Shita de Machiawase.
[PLOT AND CONTEXT] The plot revolves around Kako Motoya, a high school girl who falls in love with a police officer when pretending to be an older girl at a mixer, he learns the truth and walks away because she is a high school girl. But Kako doesn't give up and ends up being attacked when trying to protect him from a delinquent. This initial incident is the kickoff for the romance of the two to begin, moving soon after to a quick official marriage (this is because in Japan until the year 2020, the minimum age to marry was 18 years for men and 16 for women).
But, in the course of the chapters, the story takes the focus away from the novel and starts to deal with matters related to crimes, such as domestic violence, parental abuse and murder. The role of the police as an agent to resolve these problems and often the lack of confidence that some people have due to bad experiences with this security body are also treated points of the story. But, above all, as a human being he does need to pay for his crimes and bad acts, but he may also need a little empathy from others in order to have the chance to reconcile and change as a person.
[CHARACTERS] What I can say about the characters is that they are consistent; each has a well solidified personality. Okami in particular (who you will meet) was the one that received the greatest evolution within the story and is one of the best characters. As for the protagonist, Kako Motoya, she is the typical heroine who wants to save everyone she can, often getting herself into trouble. The police officer and husband of the protagonist, Kouta-kun, is a bit cold due to a sad and traumatic past, but very mature.
The author was careful not to add or romanticize anything abusive in their relationship, which I found very positive. Because the difference in age and maturity has to be taken into account, Kako being younger and more immature would be dangerously more susceptible to falling for the lip of an experienced man. But her family (mother and father) were together all the time and Kouta himself, as a police officer, is a man of character.
Overall, it's a nice story to read. Recommend to pass the time.

[WORK AND AUTHOR] Mars is a manga of the drama and romance genre, written and drawn by the author Fuyumi Souryo, and which has fifty-nine chapters published from 1996 to 2000.
It is important to say that Souryo is a veteran manga artist who has published works since the 1980s and continues to be active today, with her most recent work: Cesare: Hakai no Souzousha, ending in 2021. She was also awarded the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo manga for Boyfriend, whose plot reminds me a bit of Mars (but haven't read it yet to confirm) in 1988.
[PLOT AND CONTEXT] What I mean by all this
...
is that Souryo's "voice of experience" is reflected in Mars brilliantly through well-grounded psychological themes and drama, talking about suicide, mental issues and family issues . Questioning distorted love and lack of attachment to life. The fact is that Mars makes reference to the god Mars, from Roman mythology, who had powers of destruction and destabilization, however, he used these powers to keep the peace, which if you observe has everything to do with the protagonist King. It is also possible to see a nuance of reflection on the rapid changes that society was going through, in a nostalgia for the past and hope for the future, as a result of the context of the turn of the millennium, I believe.
[CHARACTERS] The main characters and the romance are developed in a very satisfying way to follow. With a painter protagonist, the author uses real art as inspiration with the painting "The three ages of women" by Gustav Klimt and the curious look and tendency to capture the beauty of life that artists have. As for the protagonist Rei, the author uses motorcycle racing as a very stylish way to show how the character has a free spirit and at the same time destructive. All this with beautiful features and the aesthetics of the 90s that make reading a pleasure.
[MORE+] Mars also has a kind of prequel in a compilation of 3 stories with different stories called Mars Gaiden: Namae no Nai Uma, but only the first story is really related to the Mars manga; telling the story of how Rei and his best friend met.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING IT!

Yasashii Jikan (or A Gentle Time) is a comedy one-shot released in 2021 by author Izumi Tsubaki, known for the works Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun and Oresama Teacher.
The story follows a businessman and a high school girl who sit together in a square every day at lunchtime. The main point of this comedy is that both never spoke, but each one creates a persona in their heads of who the other would be and what problems they were supposedly facing, just by the characteristics and external actions they observed during all that time of passive coexistence. Which ends up generating a comic misunderstanding at the end
...
of the story.
I believe that maybe the author is interested in turning this one-shot into a bigger and more elaborate story in the future. Well, let's see.

Gakuen Alice (or Alice Academy) is a comedy and drama manga, written and drawn by the author Tachibana Higuchi and which has one hundred and eighty-three chapters published from 2002 to 2013.
The story has as its central theme a school for children and young people with superpowers called Alice. At first the story squanders a fun comedy between children, specifically between Mikan Sakura and her friend Hotaru Imai and troubled schoolmates. But then it takes a more dramatic turn of dark secrets that are part of the academy's history and which are closely linked to the protagonist Mikan Sakura.
The author develops well all the characters
...
that surround Mikan, making us connect with them. In addition to addressing topics such as unity, loyalty among friends, love and resilience in a very strong way. What makes the story special among so many comedy shoujo with children.

Pochama ni tells the love story between Mugi, a fat girl, with her romantic partner who is considered a "Pochama" (the term refers to someone who likes soft and fluffy things). In other words, he has a preference for fat girls.
Thus, the author managed to do a very good job of using a female character who accepts her body; and that despite having suffered from judgments in the past, she faced them and learned to love herself. In addition, as much as the idea of a “Pochama” boy may seem a little exaggerated, it helped to highlight the issue of fatphobia within the reality of
...
the work that is a reflection of our society. Because, a “pretty boy” who likes fat girls was then labeled by people as a “waste”.
Thus, in a very cute way of reading, the author tried to show the relationship of her two characters, but with brushstrokes of harsh realities. Giving us the lesson that it doesn't matter if you're thin or fat, what you really need is to be able to love yourself and recognize your value to know not to accept less than you deserve, in addition to always wanting to be better.

Perfect World is a Japanese comic book series, in the romance and drama genre, written and drawn by author Rie Aruga and which has forty-three chapters published from 2014 to 2021. The story has as its central theme the difficulties that people with disabilities face in life; with a special focus on the romance between Itsuki, an architect, who is physically disabled and uses a wheelchair. And Kawana, an interior design.
They both knew each other from high school, before Itsuki lost movement in his legs in an accident. When they meet again, years later at the company where they work, Kawana will be faced
...
with the question: can she overcome prejudices and revive the old high school love she felt for Itsuki in the conditions that life presents her?
The author managed to bring to paper, in a visual, sensitive and accessible way, the reality of several people with whom she lived, interviewed, and observed. Bringing to light a work largely painful, but also, within the uncontrollable limits that are imposed by life, happy. Showing that a Perfect World is different for each person, as it adapts to their imperfections.

At least unusual, Genshijin Kareshii (or Primitive Boyfriend) is a shoujo manga published between 2017 and 2018, written by first-time mangaka Yoshineko Kitafuku who dedicated herself to several researches in books, museums and other materials, before and during the composition of her constructions. The manga has only 14 chapters, but it brings us a story beyond unique: through time travel, the protagonist goes after her soulmate, going back about 2 million years and coming across nothing less than a primitive version of the homo sapien and her future husband.
The first impression one has of this manga is a mixture of curiosity and strangeness, but
...
soon we start to hope that things work out. It's a very cute and different love story, using a common Japanese cultural element within shoujo manga which is reincarnation. At the end of the work I wished the author had had the opportunity to develop more what she created, because it was an interesting journey through history.

The house of the sun is a beautiful story about how family is something important in one's life. How we sometimes blame ourselves or others unfairly, how life can be unfair, but also have good things. Hiro's desire to bring everyone back home was what touched me the most and also the difficult relationship between Mao and his father that was being built. I highly recommend it!
Taiyo no ie, or The house of the sun in English, has its initial focus on two characters: a girl named Mao and a boy named Hiro Nakamura. The Nakamura family is made up of his father, mother and
...
two brothers Daiki and Hina, living together in the huge house that their parents built with effort, with the aim of being more united and happy. The little girl Mao on the other hand has a troubled family, her father and mother are never home together and they leave her alone, so the girl spends most of her time with Hiro's family.
Things get complicated when Mao's mother decides to leave with another man, abandoning her husband and daughter. The girl is invited to be taken in by the Nakamura family and for a moment Mao thought she would live happily in that radiant house, but an accident ends up taking the lives of the parents of that family. Orphans of a father and mother, Hiro and his two brothers find themselves alone and the joy of that house disappears. Hiro decides not to leave the house, while his brothers were taken in by family members, feeding the dream that one day they would all be together again. And Mao would also play an important role in realizing that dream.
