Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden
|
After all this years no one had ever thought of making recommendation for these two series. If you love the classic Fushigi Yugi I definitely give my highest recommendation to read Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden. After-all its the Prequel of one of the most beloved popular shojo series. Of course its no brainer that they share the same concept and basic plot however the similarity ends there. Fushigi Yugi is cheesy and at times annoyingly sappy although entertaining altogether whilst Genbu Kaiden is more mature, deep, melancholic and has a much complex story. Both are definitely addictive and has memorable characters. If you want to see how Watase-sensei has grown and improved as both a storyteller and an artist, Genbu Kaiden will not disappoint. I highly highly recommend this prequel for those who love Fushigi Yugi. Of course new readers aren't really required to know the original to appreciate Genbu Kaiden. If you enjoy one or the other it's gauranteed you'll end up liking them both. For the record, Takiko and her romance story in Genbu Kaiden is the opposite of what Miaka and her romance was.

They are given special roles that involves becoming a special individual that has to find their celestial warriors in order to fulfill their specific roles.

Both series is from my favorite mangaka. I highly Recommend you Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden if you enjoyed reading Ceres. Athough they don't share anything plot-wise. Both contains wonderful story. Ceres is more on supernatural, psychological, dark series, while Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden is adventure, fantasy and tragic tale. If you are an avid Watase follower you shouldn't missed both of these. Plus FYGK's heroine is not your typical whiny girl. She's responsible, independent and brave. Highly Recommended both this series, handsdown. Epic stuff. Nuff said go find scans or get the manga itself.

If you've read one of these series you gotta try and check out the other. Both are slice of life and light hearted genre. Both heroines moved from the country to study in the city. Weird as it seems there is a vague flower theme in both, Someday's Dreamer ~Summer Skies~ have Sunflower whilst in Imadoki have Dandelion. Both series are easy to get into, a nice change from the usual genre you read.
