Trigun Stampede is a sleeper hit from the last season that has been raising in popularity through word of mouth and overwhelming love from the fanbase. The show seemed unpromising at first, with many criticism pointed at the new character designs and the use of 3D CGI. It's genuinely a surprise how this show exceeded expectations and made Trigun into a big name in the anime community once more after 20+ years.

Story: 6/10
When I watched the first few episodes, I was quite skeptical. The storyline felt dull and poorly paced, with flashbacks thrown throughout episodes at a bullet pace, giving the main characters way ... too much exposition. Emotional moments are poorly executed through a narrative standpoint and felt somewhat forced. After episode 5 I dropped the show for a bit, since it didn't impress me that much. I picked up the original show instead, and it honestly was a WAY better experience than the first few episodes of Stampede.

Around the 2nd part the show started to click into place, and got progressively better each episode. There is way more to it than I first expected, why this show goes on such a different route to the original series, and why the characters felt undeveloped.


Characters: 8/10
The cast really took time for me to love. Vash felt like a boring character at first. He’s only the silly rubber chicken man most fans know him from in the start of the show, but he’s way more melancholic and passive in Stampede. I could not understand his motivations, and he felt like a weak MC with too much idealism and poor life decisions. However he grew on me as the show went on, and became an amazing character by the end of it. He’s a very complex character and his guilt and trauma is wonderfully depicted in Stampede.

Wolfwood is likeable since his introduction, though he acts a bit too much of a prick sometimes. He’s by far my favorite. Meryl was pretty annoying at first but she also grew on me especially at the last episodes. Same case with Roberto, he was unlikeable but I appreciated his presence as the rational guy who makes witty and sarcastic comments.

Knives is a GREAT antagonist. He’s miles better than the 98 version and way more developed. His motives are understandable, even more so than Vash’s. His presence is terrifying, and his design makes him stand out compared to other anime villains. Knives and Vash’s past is beautifully explored here and their relationship is very interesting.


Animation: 9/10
The show has by far one of the best looking 3D i've seen in an anime. Studio Orange DOES NOT miss in making 3D anime look as good as 2D. If you want more proof watch Houseki no Kuni and Beastars. The action, choreography and expressions in this anime looks fantastic and a lot of care is put into the details of each character's motion. The last episode has one of the best fight scenes i've seen in a long time and the fact it was done in CGI just made it way better. One of my gripes on it though is how several scenes has poor lighting that makes it hard to see unless you turn up your screen brightness.


Music: 8/10
The soundtrack is amazing. It’s mostly orchestral and enhances the emotional moments a lot, but not that mind-blowing or unique.

Conclusion
In a nutshell this show is awesome! It is not perfect, but still a great and emotional experience that got me invested in the entire Trigun series.

Reading Elfen Lied is like getting a mind rape. Even though there are interesting ideas and concepts in it, The story is so horribly executed and most characters will annoy the hell out of you. So many pointless deaths that feel cheap that I became numb with any major character death halfway through the manga. The protagonist is bland, and Lucy/Nyu could've been an interesting character if it weren't for her absolutely inconsistent character portrayal. The only somewhat bare able characters are Nana and Bandou. And don't get me started with the fan-service. It becomes so out of place and annoying, and it's done in ... poor taste.

A much better executed manga with similar themes to this is Deadman Wonderland. Go read that instead.

After hearing a lot about this anime from random peeps on the internet, I was really looking forward to watching this. I mean, it's about Jesus and Buddha in modern day Japan, so what can go wrong?

Well sadly it didn't meet my expectations of a funny slice of life anime.

Most of the jokes are forced by the over-exaggerated expressions and I can't help but cringe at several scenes for their divine awkwardness. The pacing feels very slow, and you can't help but feel the entire movie is one big filler episode. At about 40 min in, I have an urge to drop the entire ... thing.

Animation and voice acting are pretty good though. And at least the sauna scene is pretty hilarious.
