brotherhood is much more lore focused than the original fma but the overall emotional attachment to the characters is less than the predecessor, if you want to care about characters you need to watch the original brotherhood the very different endings are even more alarmingly different to see that mediocre ending show to me that the only reason to watch brotherhood is for the character development of the homunculus (especially greed) and the bigger dive into the lore of that fascinating universe.
