Hotarubi No Mori e
STORY 10/10
- Although this was truly my first romance anime, it is by far one of my most favorites for many reasons. The concept and storyline of this 40 minute anime is genius. This superstitious approach to spirits interacting with humans was unique in it’s own way. Learning the backstory of Gin really helped develop the plot and help thickened it’s significance. I thoroughly enjoyed how gradual the story developed even within a short amount of minutes. It was straight to the point in which a beautiful story had been told with no dull moments.
ART 10/10
- The art style used in
...
this anime was somewhat old and plain looking but that’s what I enjoyed about it. A classic anime always fits with a classic art style. The scenery was still amazingly beautiful and the liveliness of the colors really brought everything together and made more memorable scenes happier.
SOUND 10/10
- Not much music was necessary for this anime considering it was so short and straight to the point. At times, there was quite a few usage of sentimental music which really brought out the emotions of the characters even more.
CHARACTERS 10/10
- Both the main characters of this anime were so likable. There was never a dull moment with them. They both shared a really specific bond that had been developed throughout many, many years. I enjoyed watching them both grow and develop different views of each other. They complimented each other perfectly and gave each other the same emotions. Theirs was especially unique because of their different embodiments, though. These differences only caused them to work harder to achieve what they wanted.
ENJOYMENT 10/10
- I thoroughly enjoyed this anime solely because of the balance between sadness and happiness. The viewers feel many waves of emotions, especially during the plot twist. Not only did they get to experience happiness, but there was also a sense of disappointment meaning to happen. Depending on how you interpret it, the emotions can vary. I found that very interesting since it allowed a personal outlook rather than a forced one.
OVERALL 10/10
- I have so much love for this anime in regards to every category. It may seem super basic, but it still allowed many emotions to flow. The attachment that I have to this anime is unhealthy but so incredibly worth every watch. I would definitely recommend this to any romance lovers.

High Rise Invasion
STORY 6/10
- Firstly, the storyline itself was a mess. I found that it was often steering away from the original plot. Although I did see some potential in the plot, I felt as if many unnecessary aspects were brought up just for there to be a forced event of surprise and/or suspense. Because of this, some specifics did not align with each other, causing unnecessary confusion. It was almost as if the entire basis got too repetitive to the point where creators had to involve more unexpected aspects. This poorly executed plot was somewhat enjoyable, though because of the overall goal of
...
the show.
ART 9/10
- Before getting into that, I wanted to touch upon the art itself. I felt like this was very well animated but the only critique I had was the unnecessary fan service. I feel as if it was not appropriate for high school students to be completely exposed during unrelated fights. However, I enjoyed watching the animation itself since it was so well done. The art style is wonderful, I’d love to see more anime that looks similar.
SOUND 9/10
- After touching upon sound, I thought that most of the music was pretty appropriate for the overall vibe of the series. The suspenseful music some scenes and encouraging music during the others was ultimately accurate to what was occurring in the show. These made the experience much more enjoyable.
CHARACTERS 6/10
- Now, regarding characters specifically, I felt as if there was no real sense of distrust between the main character and who she befriends. This made the show incredibly unrealistic considering it’s a survival-of-the-fittest type deal. Anyone in that situation would fend for their lives instead of wanting to revise it. I also felt as if the main character was incredibly annoying since she did not communicate well at all. Many people in this show think so selfishly which interferes with the plot even though it can easily be avoided. If the goal is to befriend, why does the main character make her situations so much more complicated for no reason. This itself makes many characters dislikable, even the major ones.
ENJOYMENT 8/10
Even if this may be the case, I still found this anime somewhat enjoyable because of the fighting scenes. I liked how each mask kept their personalities close to them but also being changed for the worse. This made each fight scene unique yet full of suspense, keeping me at the edge of my seat. Sadly, that was not enough to fully convince me that this anime was worth anything over a 7/10.
OVERALL 7/10
This series was an experience to say the least. I wouldn’t classify it as a bad anime but there are many underlying things that drag this series down. The many dislikes outweigh my enjoyment for the concept and execution throughout this anime. If it were executed and not as rushed, it could’ve had so much potential. Regardless, I wouldn’t recommend this anime to anyone if I had the chance but it’s not a terrible pick.

Violet Evergarden
STORY 10/10
- This anime is essentially just one major masterpiece. I can easily label it as one of my all time favorites for many reasons. To start off, lets talk about the plot. Not only did this revolve around a war story, but it also incorporates slice of life. Violet’s specific experience was intriguing considering she had gone through a large change in lifestyle. This complicated her life alongside dealing with many underlying psychological issues. The depiction of neglect was seen throughout this series in which I feel it was represented incredibly accurately. Not only did the plot focus on Violet’s specific experiences,
...
but it also touched upon various different individuals. It’s refreshing to see each person handling their share of struggles instead of focusing on just the main character alone. I also feel as if these different experiences promoted character growth within both parties.
ART 10/10
- Moving on to art, this anime was incredibly pleasing to the eye. The animation was beyond beautiful and matched the theme of the series completely. I feel as if each scene and setting perfectly depicted each specific emotion perfectly. The scenery really tied this whole thing together as well.
SOUND 10/10
- When relating this to sound, I felt as if the soundtrack fully matched the time period. The accuracy of the sounds made this series so much more enjoyable since it related and worked well with each individual scene. The most memorable part would definitely have to be the abundance of piano music played during multiple occasions, conveying multiple emotions. Listening to each piece only enhanced the full Violet Evergarden experience.
CHARACTERS 10/10
- In addition to that, there had been a wonderful balance of characters. Each individual had it’s own personality unique to themselves. Seeing multiple different ways of thinking and perspectives made this anime so much more meaningful. Although there had been many characters introduced, of course Violet left the biggest impression. Her childhood backstory helps the audience build sympathy. This ultimately leads to the audience feeling many things from love to hatred depending on the main character’s experiences. Although that us true, the series still leaves room for viewers to form their own opinions on each individual since Violet’s values and emotions are hidden majority of the time. I feel as if her lack of social queues play a large role in her character and can persuade the audience to form an unbiased opinion. Luckily, there are multiple accounts of character development. The concept of knowledge has played a large role in terms of each person discovering their true self or even changing away from their original beliefs. That being said, it is evident that Violet had played a large role in each individual changing. Every single client has experienced a lesson, realization or something of sentimental value after working with Violet. The impact that she has on others as well as what she gains out of it truly makes this show intriguing.
ENJOYMENT 8/10
- As we move onto enjoyment, we can see that this series was extremely enjoyable but not necessarily in a fun way. The sad and depressing tone behind this show is what truly makes it different from many other animes. This series will leave you genuinely heartbroken because of how cruel and frustrating the world is depicted to be. The main point of the story revolves around mass amounts of childhood trauma and effects it had on the main character’s psychological development. Not only is Violet’s backstory tragic, but almost every single episode has a new form of struggle occurring in many peoples’ lives at the time. These main aspects personally kept me on the edge of my seat, regardless of how badly I was crying because of it. This explains why it was not so much intriguing because it was enjoyable, but because it does a perfect job at keeping the viewer curious about the many different perspectives seen throughout each episode.
OVERALL 10/10
- Ibelieve this anime deserves a 10/10 since it had been so wonderfully executed. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, considering it is so jam packed with different stories and emotions.
