Another reviewer said Jigoku Youchien was made for the internet, but that's wrong. in fact, JiYo was made to fill the breaks at an AKB0048 concert. And as something made to fill the gaps between breaks at an AKB0048 concert, it fulfills that job pretty nicely. But we're not AT an AKB0048 concert, are we? This isn't the spawn of Satan, nor is it 1/10 material. It's short, stupid, an not to be taken seriously. It's the anime equivalent of a small bag of potato chips. Here we have a harem that actually tries to do something different with its genre. The story is full of twists, which is unusual for the average bland episodic style that most harems suffer from. Sometimes, however, the story suffers from a bland execution. I got the feeling that the show was trying to generate more emotion than it actually managed to, especially during the last few episodes. Starting out goofy but action-packed, advancing as a wild, plot twist riddled, intense ride, and finishing relatively satisfyingly; Kill la Kill will be remembered as immensely entertaining for some, and a jumbled mess of "bad" animation and plot holes by the ones who take everything way too seriously.
True, Kill la Kill is best enjoyed if you turn your mind off. This is not to imply it is a mindless show, but that it's more enjoyable if you laugh instead of gripe at all the plot holes, "fanservice," and over-the-top-ness that make up Kill la Kill.
