I really thought i could write a decent all-summarizing review about this when i wait a little, but today i am still uncertain about the thing as a whole.
"Welcome to the NHK" portraits the life of a Hikkikomori, which in essence means that he is afraid to go outside and has almost no social contacts. Funny thing is that he is well aware of his mental problem and plagued by a mild paranoia he comes to the conclusion that it must be a conspiracy of a evil company to turn people into Hikkikomori (for whatever reason).

Lovely short story about androids living among the general public. One of the top sci-fi fantasies ever. The robot cleaning after you, looks and dresses like you want and does everything without asking. I don't even dare to guess which book/movie portrayed this vision first.
In these six episodes we get to see many different point of view on the subject. I don't want to get into any details so, generally speaking, you get one episode for every aspect. Simple human-robot relationships, ignorance and slavery, doubts and justice, love and friendship, parenting and careers, media coverage and behind-the-scene groups trying to push their vision ... I couldn't have finished it if they wouldn't have justified the boredom with the intro sentence explaining that this is just a story about 3 girls and nothing special. To be frank, this series is absolutely boring. I do have a broad taste in humor an also often laugh about things most people wouldn't even take as a joke - in short - i don't hesistate when there's something remotely funny. But in this show the only real funny thing was the running gag about the drama tv show the three sisters are following. "sensei!" ... "ninomya-kun!" ... "sensei!"
That got me giggle every now and ... Aug 9, 2012

Even though it makes a bold entrance suggesting a rough ride, it manages to come of a light thriller with a nice selection of interesting characters. The pace is good and the story is presented with very good timings. The plot turns at moments where its "just right" which makes watching this OVA very entertaining.
I don't want to downplay the mature content and it may leave scars to younger viewers but i found it not as dark as it could have gotten, and being aimed at a mature audience the plot seemed a little bit too easy. If you are a seasoned thriller/crime viewer ... Aug 9, 2012

What i found lacking was plot continuity. The base story is very interesting, but only 12 shows which are very episodic and only relate through sideplots are not enough to build up more tension than there already is from the beginning. This drove me nuts around episode 10, knowing that there are only 2 more left to a point where i felt that i wasted my time on a missed opportunity show. However, this show has enough unique traits to keep you very entertained through each of its "mini-stories", minus the beach episode.
