I browsed the manga a little and I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch the anime. But I have to say, this series is one of those that is better to watch the anime than the manga. Literally one of the best series that is severely underrated.
The pacing of the story is excellent. It is not over-rushed nor overcooked and everything really just fell into place nicely. The sounds, music and overall score was really top-notched and even for people who do not really understand classical instruments, its easy to pickup. At the end of the day, its the music that really matters and
...
I bet many who watch it will shed tears towards the highlight at the Kanagawa qualifiers.
Watch it. Definitely watch it.

I know what people usually think..it feels like every other shounen-battle manga turned into anime out there.
And yes I will not disagree. That's Akame Ga Kill's weakness, but it's also it's selling point.
What made the manga good was it's character development. It had good development for a series that featured such a large cast.
Also, it didn't need much brainwork to read the manga. With good art, it's all I needed.
And that's what I liked about the anime...it pretty much stuck to the manga...well at first.
Nothing much changed from manga for the first 20 and a half episodes and it was good since character development was
...
great, you could probably relate a little to the characters and seeing them come to life was awesome.
Maybe the manga got too dark and disturbing, or maybe the show ratings just wasn't doing so well...
But whatever the reasons, the minute it became an anime-only parts...it just went back to classic cheesy stuff. And that was cringe worthy.
If it's going to become an anime-only...it has to be better ain't it? That's what I think. Especially since its a manga adapted story. Somehow the studio people got pretty complacent towards the end.
But on a positive note, it's still very much a brain dead action show. Might not be everyone's cup of tea but if you like stuff like that..hack and slash without trying to dissect the plot too much, then it's something you might wanna watch. Just don't expect it to be too good though.
Furthermore, the dying scenes in the show were pretty well made..not over the top and for a series that has so much dead, it handled itself pretty well.
Again, it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.

Finally done with Valvrave the Liberator, or just Kakumeiki Varuvureivu.
Thoughts - That was one clusterfuck of awesome. First 12 episodes gave a me a complete "Oh right it's Sunrise, dead men don't stay dead..." and "Fuck logic". Only for it to end in one epic cliffhanger.
Honestly, I was expecting another clusterfuck of shit that is so bad that you just can't stop watching in S2. But really, while logic continues to defies itself, Sunrise did a pretty decent job covering up the gaping hole in the plot. Not that it's perfect, but it was still one hell of a ride. You either love it
...
to bit, hate it, or just go 'VALVRAVEEEEEEEEEEE"
That said, I have to hand it to Sunrise for making good use of decent supporting characters and killing them off before they make too much of a negative impact. So here's to Kyuma Inuzuka, Raizo Yamada and Marie Nobi for making it fun while it lasted. You guys served a good purpose. Felt that Ikusain's death a bit too rush though. Sunrise prolly went..."Yea we killed all the Valvrave pilots, gotta level up the playing field a little..."
It's still a little confusing here and there..the plot wise. Like, seriously are we talking about Aliens now? too little explainations, too little on how the damned Council was founded and how it got wiped out. And suddenly that slime faced American president decides to turn against the Magius? Just Staph.
It's also rather generic mecha, except Sunrise has learned its lesson by not over-using stock. Pretty good animation work I say.
And romance. oh romance. Still cannot comprehend the fact that Haruto confessed his love to Shoko, not to her, but to L-Elf. That's one weird as hell death flag.
Speaking of which, can I say the bromance between Haruta and L-Elf is the best since Lulu and Suzaku?
And not one noticed it's weird that alien Prue has a massive thing for his sister Pino?
But in a nutshell, I'm quite glad I didn't drop this episode. It was a fun ride.
And once more....VALVRAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I planned to give up this show after boring myself to sleep in the first 5 episodes.
But I decided to toughen up and go on for a few more episodes and give it another go. Glad I made the right choice.
GKMP came off to me as slapstick mecha anime. More of mecha with comedy which wasn't really my cuppa tea. Further more their obvious usage of puns and gags were a little blatant, although it turned out pretty well in the end..
Midway through, the series suddenly emerged like a giant awakening from it's slumber.. It picked up a whole new level of seriousness...but not too
...
serious and made a strong case in the end.
In terms of artwork and animation, it's just not as good as what Sunrise do with theirs...but it's not shabby either, and really, it's a matter of perception I would say. Personally I like it.
Plot wise, it doesn't take itself too seriously, and it knows when to throw in some humour and all in all, it panned out rather well. I would say the plot is not it's strongest point but it just does enough to keep you hanging and waiting for the next episode.
My only complain though is the lack of character development other than Izuru. We see Kei harbouring feelings for Izuru all season, but that was not developed. We have Suruga who is one character with so much potential, but it was barely touched as well. And Asagi's suddenly relevation as Izuru's 'older brother' just came off as a little disturbing to me. But hey, here's to hoping there's a second season and better development right?
Overall, if I would recommend this series, especially for non-mecha fans. Hardcore mecha followers might find it hard to follow at first, but give it try, you won't regret. It's a fun ride.
