For the past few years, the anime industry has been infested by tons of shows which focus on material which promotes sales. May it be adding Moe element, fan-service, over the top drama story and many others. Only few titles are willing to make a risk in order to bring new material to the table. Mouretsu Pirates (Bodacious Pirates) is one of them.
Story 7/10
The story is simple. A normal high school girl living a simple life similar to these slice of life shows that you usually see. After a string of events, she was left to make a trivial decision to become a space
...
pirate as a descendant of her parents as a captain. In the course of the episodes, we get to learn more about how this space piracy works. The anime covers most of the technical terms regarding ships and how they work, may it be Cyber Warfare to overtake the systems of an enemy ship and whatnot. I personally find this interesting (who knew that making a Faster Than Light (FTL) travel at the most crucial time could be exciting).
Another major factor which makes the story so great is because of the characters most specially Marika and her decisions as a captain. Her decisions decides where the story will go and it made me ponder for a bit of what will happen on the next episode, which makes me more and more clung to the story.
There are some points in the story that wasn't that clever but good overall.
Art 9 / 10
The art for this anime is almost perfect. Sometimes i find the characters drawn in a simple way. As an artist myself, i find the character designs very pleasing and unique. Unlike other anime which character designs are stapled to one design and makes a difference only because of the hairstyles. Mouretsu pirates caters character designs which are entirely different to each other. In this anime's ED, you can see the profile cards of each character and from there, you can tell how original each and every character there is. In the course of the anime so far, i am yet to see any flaw regarding the characters and in their movements. I am typically hard when it comes to overseeing perspectives, movements and whatnot and i can guarantee that the art is constant, unchanging and well formed. If there's anything that would make me give this section a perfect 10, that would be adding more fluidity to the animation, but its not like Marika should be moving all the time when talking because the characters are only talking most of the time. This is not a shounen title after all.
The CG and effects for this anime is highly commendable. I am astound by the surmounting quality and design of the spaceships. I personally like the rendering and lighting used in space.
The Background art of this anime is one of the best. Each and every facility, object and even the user interface of the computers in this anime was designed intricately. Jogakuin is such a dreamland to tread with. I find the background for this anime a treat, very pleasing to the eyes and makes you want to live in the anime itself XDD.
Sound - 8
The music for this anime is good overall. All tracks are relaxing, some tracks are intense and fits exactly when the scene and event calls for it. It is hard to handpick a favorite track in the series because there are so many different catchy tracks and it is hard to differ.
The OP for this anime isn't really the best, an average score if i would rate. Some are annoyed because of the heavy guitar riffs and the overly cheerful voices of the singers which didn't really made a good mix. The ED makes up for what the OP lacks and that is its catchyness. The jump to the ED from the episode gave me shivers at times.
These two songs are composed by Hyadain, so if you're a fan of him, and is the type of fan who would go as far as watching an anime because of his works. This review wasn't that useful huh. XO
Character - 8
The character progression of Marika overshadows most of the characters in the show. Even though some characters are bland and are just included to fill-in, this was never a hindrance to enjoy the show and if not, there wasn't even a single character in the show to hate.
Marika, as the main highlight of the show is very likable because of her straight-forwardness and cheerfulness. It is always nice to see how the show progresses because of the decisions she makes. 17 episodes in, i find more potential in the characters of this anime, most specially the development of Marika and her classmates.
Enjoyment - 9
What i love about this show is that everything in this anime is simple, but these simple aspects are delivered in a quirky fashion. I enjoyed the simple adventures that they partake but these adventures always end in a grand and lighthearted way.
Overall - 8.25
I was caught by surprise by this anime. The first few episodes were going at such a slow pace but later the story builds up to a grand scale.
So yea, to cut this review short. The story is lighthearted and simple but can take you by surprise at times as the story goes on. The character designs are okay and the Background and CG takes it to a different level. The OP is not the best but the music is variant. The character Marika is awesome and there is no character to hate.
Mouretsu Pirates is a good show to watch. If you're tired of watching anime titles which goes on a never ending cycle of following the Moe and fanservice principles. This anime is for you.

"Legend of the Galactic heroes is the best anime title ever. Nahh that's bullshit! it looks so last decade." This is for real people, I was like this months before I started watching this and just a few days ago after seeing the last episode. I can proudly say that those claims were actually true. Lotgh as abbreviated by fans is definitely one of the best space opera that I stumbled upon. Now let's move into the review
Spanning over a hundred episodes. LOTGH is as slow but refined as ever. Masterpieces cannot be created in a whim take our legendary composers for example, they
...
create wonderful masterpieces but takes a lifetime. In LOTGH the plot buildup is slow but each episode is never uninteresting. It feeds you with a bit of the character's pasts, their goals, philosophy and loyalty to their affiliation. The stage is then set for the most wonderful and most dramatic battles that we will ever see in anime history.
Story: 10/10
LOTGH is your typical good versus evil warfare but the show is all about what kind of government you believe in. Would you like to follow an emperor or be a democrat instead? Here we have Reinhard von Lohengramm who aims to exact vengeance on the aristocrats of the Goldenbaum Empire and take over the world. We also have Yang Wen-li, a commodore and a pacifist who is driven into the world of these two warring factions, the Goldenbaum empire and Free Planets Alliance. I strongly believe that this title is a slice of life of a vast future. Judging from what happens to the characters later on, it is definitely delivered in a well refined realism. LOTGH can get as real as it gets.
In LOTGH, it's not about good versus evil actually, it's between good versus another good and in what they believe in.
The pacing is slow but builds up the most wonderful stage ever, think of this anime as 95% talking and leave that 5% for the space battles and action.
Animation: 9/10
The animation is fluid even though outdated, the animation improves as a season ends. But let me warn you though, some parts of this anime is not for the weakened heart. I hope you're used to seeing things like beheading, intestines popping out and of course blood, violence and gore. The character design is one of the things I liked most in this anime, it's full of realism. Each and every character is different from another therefore you can actually tell characters apart even from afar.
Sound : 10/10
If you loved these orchestral pieces, Ninth Symphony E minor from the New World first movement (Dvorak) and Symphony No. 7 in A major by Beethoven (yes nodame cantabile fans). Then you've come to the right place! Heck, this anime even surpasses the lineup of nodame cantabile by tenfolds. The seiyuu's also has done a great job on conveying the feelings of their characters and the most notable to that is Ryo Horikawa's role as Reinhard. His voice in this character can be sometimes sweet and calming when talking to his assistant Mariendorf and as mad as ever when he's in turn for war. This is also the last title that you can hear the voices of two great seiyuus before their passing; Kei Tomiyama as Yang Wen-li and Shiozawa, Kaneto as Oberstein.
Enjoyment: 8/10
If you're used to shounen titles like Naruto =( and bleach which is almost never without action then this title is not recommended for you. If however you're interested in watching something related to war and politics and would like to sip a cup of tea while taking your leisure of watching the best anime plot buildup ever LOTGH is definitely a "time-well-spent".
Overall Score : 9
I bet you have noticed that in some anime sites, LOTGH is scored high or if not, the best. Why is this title one of the best? Why is it that this OVA contains 110 episodes? At first I didn't know either I was lost but now that I finished it, I'm satisfied because I found out why this one is the best. Why is this the best you ask? Well that's for you to find out.

The first thing which struck my mind when I saw the title "Welcome to NHK" was the japanese tv channel "NHK". I was taken by surprise by this anime indeed. It's the first time I encountered this problem called "Hikkikomori", I made a research and after knowing the background of a hikkikomori, I gave this anime a thorough observance. Let's proceed to the review.
The story is pretty amazing, Welcome to N.H.K. is the story of a hikkikomori (a hikkikomori is a person who doesn't work, study and is afraid to go outside due to the fact that a hikkikomori is often referred to as someone
...
who is afraid to socialize with others.) named Satou, our main protagonist. Welcome to NHK showcases the uprising problem of Japan's society today and that is being a hikkikomori. People who are lonely, an otaku who is rejected socially at school, people who sold their souls to MMORPG, victims of Multi-level marketing strategy, You name it! It's all here.
Each and every episode sends off the depressing aura, delivered in a well humurous manner. There are times that you will laugh about Satou with him being a hikkikomori but of course there also comes the time wherein you'd feel Satou's loneliness, pain and sufferring, striving to escape the chains of being a hikkikomori.
Gonzo's art on this one is pretty impressive, the animation is portrayed accurately delivered on it's simplest form. Inevitably, there are some times wherein the characters are drawn in an awkward way however this does not hinder you from watching it. If you've been a fan of Gonzo before, you better check this one out, personally I think this is the best animation they did ever.
The music is way too cool. The OP and ED themes were awesome. The BGM's are easy to get used to and you would notice that they have been used repeatedly but these limited tracks makes their way onto a scene in a perfectly timed matter. Musically, the tracks used in this anime is high above passable.
As the story progresses, different characters with different problems appear. I loved all of the characters for they are very interesting. Simillar to your typical slice of life characters which circles around Satou's life. Watch these characters succeed, or fail perhaps.
I enjoyed this anime, well who would not? It's packed with tons of funny and cool moments. If you're a hikkikomori yourself or if even you have the characteristics of being a hikkikomori, you should give this anime a watch, it's a must! Or if you think you would enjoy watching an anime character who fails over and over, watching Welcome to NHK is a must! Or else you'll be fined 1,000,000 yen :3

Here are my thoughts of this anime after watching 12 episodes of it.
The story is pretty much solid. Vampire Knight revolves around its three main characters named Cross Yuuki, Kuran Kaname and Kiryuu Zero. Vampire Knight is just like your usual generic vampire novel delivered in a more romantic way. While watching this anime, the viewers perspective on whom Cross Yuuki ( a girl who's saved by Kuran Kaname amidst of a vampire attack) should end up with is somewhat divided and is mostly considered by its fans as a love triangle between the three. The animation, as I have expected (since Studio
...
Deen, a well known crappy animation studio made the animation for this one) is very poor. The characters were drawn in a noticeable deformed way, the battle sequences were poor and lacks 3D perspective. However the background animation is passable , the environment is decipted very well. The sound of this anime gives off the expected Gothic feelling to it. From the romantic violin scores and up to the mysterious gothic Ending theme. The seiyuus of this popular adaptation has some of the best line up ever. Mamoru Miyano and Horie Yui's performance is stunning. This is definitely worth watching for if you're a fan of these two popular seiyuus.
I enjoyed the story but hated the animation (as you can tell by now) Even though I haven't seen the manga yet, I'd say that the plot of this anime is at top notch, however Studio Deen caused the anime version of this one-of-a-kind masterpiece to meet its downfall. The second season of this anime will come out soon and how I wish to all of everything that is holy to redeem this anime's reputation. I hope that the animation would be okay for the second season and if not, knowing the anime version of Vampire Knight is an epic fail.

I'll make a short review for your convenience (if you haven't seen this anime yet).
Tower of Druaga ~The Aegis of Uruk~ is an adaptation of an old namco game with the same name. This anime is just like any other typical adventure anime engulfed with wacky antics that will leave an impression to you.
The story is somewhat generic. Basically it includes a group of climbers with the desire to obtain the Blue crystal rod (an item which is said to grant its bearers wish). It can be obtained after defeating Druaga who is located on top of the tower that is named
...
after the evil lord Druaga himself. Certain plot twists were also present which sets this anime apart from most adventure anime titles. The animation company "Gonzo" is the one who's responsible for this one. I personally disliked Gonzo before but I have to say that their work on this one is pretty good. From the first episode to the last, the animation got better. The background animation is decent and 3D animations were also present. The BGMs used in this one is unappealing. The only thing I liked about the music in this anime is the performance of the uprising band Muramasa with their opening song Swinging. The characters are also typical, it features some of the so-called classes which includes an Archer, a shielder, a healer and etc which can be found in most RPG's or MMORPG's of today. The characters are interesting, interesting to the fact that almost all of them have different intentions and reasons for climbing the tower however they share only one thought and that is to defeat Druaga.
I enjoyed this anime, almost every episode will make you smile and these interesting characters will do the honors of doing so. Overall this anime is good for all ages, it's an adventure of 2008 that you should not miss.

The only Gundam series that i've seen before Gundam 00 were Wing and Gundam G way back in the 90's. I am writing this review with the sole purpose of reviewing this anime itself, I won't compare it to any anime or any other Gundam titles because I believe that comparing an anime to any other title will ruin the purpose of reviewing only the anime wholeheartedly.
Story
- Gundam 00's story focuses on the paramilitary group "Celestial Being" with the vast dream-like mission of eradicating wars by means of military force using the mobile suits called Gundams. Gundam 00 holds a story filled with
...
wars, comradery and betrayal delivered in a chronological manner. There are many flashbacks in this anime and so as the plot twists. Overall the story is somewhat decent and is tiring at the first but will leave an impression to you when you reach halfway of the show.
Animation
-The animation is unflawed. Everything seems so perfect, from the mecha, character designs, 3D animation, background and special effects. Everything is perfect, although there are some times that the character design on some episodes is somewhat different from the original design, but it is nothing to fret about because these errors are miniscule.
Sound
-Kenji Kawai is the one whos responsible for the sound and as expected from him, the BGM's were great. The effects (explosions etc) were impressive as well. The OP and ED themes of this anime stands out for they were performed by artists with big names like L'Arc~en~Ciel and the brilliant green.
Character
-The character development is remarkably slow and leaves you open for the next season. There are a lot of characters that you will like, and inevitably there are also some characters that you will also hate the most. Maybe everything in the second season will lighten things up in this category.
Enjoyment
-I enjoyed this anime and loved it for the animation is top class. The battles were amazing. There are also some unlikeable deaths but is delivered exquisitely, probably some of the best deaths ever XD. If you're a mecha fan, you'll definitely love this anime, and if you're not a fan of mecha, maybe this is the right time for you to start watching mecha and lucky you, you'll get to start with a good one like Gundam 00.
Overall 8.5
The main factor why I liked Gundam 00 is the animation. Even though the plot is somewhat generic, the plot twists are there to compensate for it. Overall, this anime is decent and the animation is worth looking for. I don't know about you but I can't wait for October to come.

I finished this wonderful anime hours ago.. now i'm to share my terra e.. experience to you guys. XDD
Story : The story is well done, although there arent that many twists in this anime, one strong plot holds this anime at a wonderful pace. There are many flashbacks and the time really flies away in this anime. Terra e is a story of two opposed races thrown into one universe, the humans hunt the Mu's down but the Mu's wanted to co-exist with them.
Animation : The animation is wonderful, it is refreshing because for example, the character design stands out of this era,
...
for it is decipted from an old anime movie. It is definitely refreshing to see the art from the 70's, for the animation of today is kinda generic, i've noticed that most animes of today actually looks the same. The background is drawn very well although I kinda disliked the 3D animation because it doesn't stand out that much and it's like your usual generic 3D animation... well maybe i'm expecting too much from it. XDD
Sound : The BGM's did not really stood out to me. Maybe it's pretty generic, however there are times or should I say "a lot of times" that the BGM matched a certain scene very well. I liked all the OP and ED themes of this anime, well who can dislike UVERWORLD ne? 8D
Character : Each and every character of this anime is interesting. The anime tells the story of each character with every single detail ingeniously. The characters of this anime would match that of Baccano's.
Enjoyment : At first I did not, for the story did not stood out to me, but later I understood and enjoyed the whole show. Each and every episode tells a slice of a certain character's story. I enjoyed Terra e halfway through. The ending was superb and it would grow on you, and maybe you would think of rewatching it again XDDD
This anime really is underrated, for it is good while it lasted. Watching an anime from the 70's isn't a bad thing after all.. I hope other works from that era would be revived just like what happened to Terra e, and I'm looking forward to it.

xxxHOLiC, is a project of the famed group CLAMP. Let's begin the reviews ne
Story
- xxxHOLiC is about the daily lives of Watanuki and Yuuko. Two characters whos fate has intertwined. xxxHOLiC is a collection of different strange yet interesting stories which happens to produce a happy ending on every episode. One particular viewer would learn something from the episodes of xxxHOLiC. It's about the mistake of humans and the solution to them were given by the main character "Yuuko". I'd say that some episodes were mediocre but interesting enough.
Art
- Production IG was involved, judging the fact that this anime were made in the
...
year 2006, I'd say that the animation is somewhat outdated. I'm not saying that it is that bad, it's just that there's nothing special about the animation. The characters stays on their intentionally deformed shape. It's not that bad really.
Sound
- I like the BGM used in this anime. It is ingeniously used in every episode and fits the whole episode inside out. The group behind the BGM is SENS project and they're really good. They really did portray the word "Mysterious" in their works and it is really notable. Some scores were relaxing, one track I liked is shizuka na hibi. The OP is good and the ED "Reason" is love XDD. Everyone would enjoy listening to the music used in xxxHOLiC.
Character
-There are different characters with different situations. Most of the characters bears different sins and after they consult Yuuko, they seem to vanish for Yuuko grants their wish to cleanse their sins and live normally. One would relate to one or two characters or even more in xxxHOLiC. In short, xxxHOLiC portrays the problems of today and how to solve them, this is one factor that I've noticed and cherished most. That's why I gave it this score.
Enjoyment
-It's enjoyable and relaxing. Although there are some scary episodes, it's not like you'll brood and will never sleep about it, the scare factor here is mild don't worry. This anime will relax you and you'll learn different lessons about life, sins and the pain they bring.
Overall
-The second season is coming out, what are you waiting for? grab xxxHOLiC. It's worth your time and I hope you will enjoy this anime just like I did.

Nana brought back my joy of watching anime since I took a hiatus in watching animes from 2002 to 06.
Story - Nana is a story between two girls who shares not only the same name and age but the struggles as well. Every band musician will appreciate its story for it decipts how an old-fashioned Punk-rock band made it to the mainstream, Yes it is somewhat simillar to Beck, but Nana is different. Along with the musical journey, there is also a strong romantic plot which is the essence of this anime. This anime is humane and it could almost happen to anyone.
...
That is for you to find out XDD
Art - The art is crisp, as expected from Madhouse. Even though there are sometimes that the drawing is somewhat off, I took a read of the manga and realized that the characters are really drawn that way, Madhouse did a good job for maintaining the original Art from Yazawa sensei's. The background is awesome most specially in the first episode, but just about in the middle of the series, it is noticable that the BG isn't that good but they did reclaim it's goodness in the later episodes of the anime.
Sound - Like I've said earlier, Nana is a good musical journey (on par with Nodame Cantabile, well that depends on the person if they like either classical or punk rock/rock.) Among the several OST's of this anime, it is noticable that Nana uses different musical crossovers from country to winter-like ballad and heart wrenching violin scores used in their BGM's. The OP/ED of this anime is a pure win Anna Tsuchiya for Blackstones and Olivia Lufkin for trapnest.. It is a huge break for Olivia and Anna for them to perform to Nana for Nana is reallly popular in Japan even though I'm not too sure if it is right now. Personally I liked Kuroi Namida and Wish the best. You know what, If you have seen Nana the movie, I would really suggest that the two (Anna and Olivia) must have taken the role of Nana and Reira, for it suits them very well (Yazawa said that they are perfect for the bands they portray in).
Character - The characters are enjoyable, their antics are soo cool and simple. The characters tend to do something cool, one episode after another. One good thing about this animes characters is that they show the flaws and egoism of humanity when it comes to love or money etc. It is painful sometimes to watch the episodes but this is the truth. Not just your typical anime wherein everything seems so vivid and bright, Nana is a good meaning for "Slice of Life".
Enjoyment - There are 47 episodes in all and I enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoyed it thoroughly since I do listen to Punk Rock. Everyone could relate to everything in this anime, that being said, Everyone would enjoy it.
Overall - Nana is a decent anime to watch, even though it is intended for girls, I myself as a guy really enjoyed Nana for I can relate to all the characters and to the story as well. Now I'm longing for season 2 *protest* XDD I'd say that why don't you try something or anything which is a slice of life today? Nana is highly recommended by yours truly, Cafekko. :)

Seirei no moribito is one of the anime's that comes in a rare occassion and those who have seen it is somewhat blessed to experience such an anime. It really is that good.
At first the story really is at a slow pace however it captivates you as every episode goes by. I would picture this anime as a "Mountain full of wonders which is yet to be discovered.". Let's begin the review.
Story - The story is at a slow yet strong pace. This anime portrays a story of someone who's burden is too much for him to handle, that person is Chagum. With the help
...
of a strong and composed woman or should I call her a guardian, named Balsa, everything comes to light as this woman is an epitome of hope for him. As the story goes by you would feel the despair that the anime tries to portray. The feeling of bearing an extraordinary ordeal, as if theres nothing more that you can do about it, the heavy feeling of despair. Even though this anime is labeled as an adventure, I'd say that you should not expect that much hack'n'slashing in this anime for it is very limited yet, some of the best fighting scenes of our age.
Art - The animation is well polished. The background art is what this anime is notable for. I really like the setting of this anime which is set in a native land. It feels so good just to look at the background. I'd say that it has the best background on par with 5 centimeters per second. The characters are well drawn. You wouldn't be disappointed with the animation of this anime.
Sound - It matches really well with the setting of this anime. Lots of tribal instruments were used here and it is indeed perfect for the background.
The opening song by L'Arc~en~Ciel is decent and is my personal favorite and the
ending song is decent also therefore this anime receives a decent score in this category.
Character - The characters here in this anime is awesome. They may seem lame at first but as you look on their past It would grow on you. The character development is what sucked me into while I'm watching this anime. Probably the latter reason why I stayed and followed this anime up to the end of it. I longed to know what would happen to the characters next as I finish an episode.
Enjoyment - I enjoyed it thoroughly but I have this thought in mind wherein only few would like it for most of those who have seen this were rather bored and dropped it at an earlier stage. I would not like to become a bias therefore I gave it this score even though I'm holding back the desire to give it at least 9 or 10 on this category.
Overall - It is indeed worth watching. I'm so glad I watched this anime to its end. The reason why I'm coining this a lot is because that most of my friends dropped it because they disliked it, some of their reasons were that they don't understand it or either became bored for the anime is realllyyyy slow. But is worth the wait. Thanks for reading.
