If i can recall correctly , elfen lied was one of my first horror mangas ever ( aside from HRI && Doubt ) , I begun it in around 2018~? && Darling in the franxx was my first mecha anime which i also got into a bit around 2019 , both hold a special place in my heart && both are incredibly similar && have a similar feel to one another despite being different ᵕᵕᵕᵕᵕᵕᵕᵕ୨♡︎୧ᵕᵕᵕᵕᵕᵕᵕᵕ First things first , main characters . These two series have the classic troupe of non-human girl loves human boy && they met before but don ' t realize it . They ' re also similiar in appearence , as 002 && lucy are both girls with pink hair && horns . These two series also show a similar theme of these hybrids of the human race are often shunned && have to hide their horns or else they ' ll be harmed in some way or outcasted . Lucy && 002 are both lab experiments in a way , which were made to fight or overcome something . Of course , these both have fanservice to some degree , though elfen lied is so much worse , they both have it . If you lied one , you most certainly would like the other , I ' m certain of it .

Despite very different premises these two series are incredibly similar . Let ' s start with the basics , The main characters miyo sasaki and ichigo momomiya are immensely similar from abilties to the troupe of loud girl likes quiet boy . Miyo and ichigo can both turn into cats , though it ' s in different ways these transformations for prolonged periods ( spoiler — warning ) . . . can cause them to lose their human form and forever remain a cat ( spoiler — ended ) . Both have crushes who are more reserved towards their human form and are more affectionate towards their cat form , And both have similar personalities in general . Both similar troupes of girl turns into animal , both have similar protagonists , and both have an antagonist that are cheeky and have similar motives .

Serial Experiments Lain: The Nightmare of Fabrication
|
Now , I wanted to make this recommendation to the anime but since that isn ' t possible i ' m going to do it under it this one , I had to read it quickly in order to make it work . Jisatsu circle and serial experiments lain have a similiar vibe , when I was thinking back on my read of jisatsu circle I found myself relating it to SEL . Both of these works contain dark themes , ( spoiler warning for both ) a message from those who have committed suicide ( spoiler over ) a supernatural element , and horror . Lain and saya have a very similiar vibe as characters , both are introverted characters who are ordinary girls up until a major event , both have a best friend who is aware of these events and cares for them , etc . If you like either , you would be interested in the other , both are great works of art I really enjoy .

As a theme of my recommendations , whilst reading this I was like . . . " hey ! this is similar to litchi hikari club . . . " And here we are ! These two both include dark themes such as cult-like clubs , drugging , SA and suicide . Both have the same author ,Includes mentally ill teens going through tragedy and seemingly normal kids going through the worst thing ever , And finally , club genocide . These two are incredibly similar , and a good read .

As a fun fact , When I was reading school ningyo I was reminded of franken fran heavily due to the layout of both mangas. These two mangas feature a style in which they stitch together small stories . These two mangas also share highschool students going through extreme measures that involve body horror in order to achieve love , As well a lot of body horror . Though , franken fran takes a more comical dark humor approach to it ' s manga rather than a genuine story building . Franken fran is also more medical body horror than supernatural , as well includes a bunch of gore. But overall are genuinely similar and if you read one you ' d like the other .

These two are similar starting with having an arrogant non-human mythical creature that are large at first but with use of their form, they can become small. The two series have a similar style of introducing side characters through adventures the otherworldly creature goes on weather they wish for more power or just simply goofing off. Both are light hearted and fun. I'd also like to note, the first cover images are insanely similiar in color and in layout. I personally think you enjoyed one, you'd enjoy the other due to the similarities with the characters and plot.
