I started this with low to no expectations at all and it has greatly surprised me. I loved watching it. It wasn’t much about character development, but about discovering and understanding more about the main character and her surroundings. I wanted a bit more out of the romance and I felt we could have received a bit more in that regard (I hope we’ll see it unfold in the next season). I was surprised to like Lacan a lot, he’s probably my second favorite character (Maomao being my favorite). It was a refreshing story in many ways and I do love an intelligent, creepy main

character.

The first episodes were good enough that they made me skip it and read the webtoon first. The webtoon was amazing, but I don’t feel the same way about the anime. I think I am biased. I might have liked it better if I didn’t read the webtoon first. But seeing as I did, I can’t take that experience away and I found the anime quite disappointing. I thought they were too clumsy about keeping the anime interesting. They filled with a lot of unimportant details and scenes with bored the spirits out of me. I was also angry seeing it unfold: it could have

been so good. So good. They had really good material and they could have made an excellent 12 anime production with only the interesting things, even if it was fast paced. They decided to skip making it good and concentrated on random stuff instead.
I did enjoy parts of it, but I’m unsure whether I recommend it or not. If you haven’t read the webtoon, you might like it more, I suppose. The fighting scenes were quite good and they did give us a good glimpse at the character development, so it wasn’t all bad. I enjoyed some episodes and got very flustered about others. I am sad to say that some parts bored me greatly (it pains me to admit it, but what can you do). I will watch another series of it if they make it, though.

It might be one of the best things I’ve read this year. I never thought a story based on an overpowering character could be so good. I will 100% re-read it and enjoy it.
I was mesmerized almost immediately with the story. At first I was a bit worried we might get a character like the guy from Katekyou Hitman Reborn, the always lame guy, but he turned out just fine. He reminded me of the main character from Parasyte the Maxim. They had a (sort of) similar story in some regards, what with their personality changing once they gained power and becoming ‘less human’
...
so to speak. I got the same vibe from Jiwoon (and I loved that too since Parasyte the Maxim is one of my favorite anime). There was also that detail about their mothers getting burned by mistake while trying to protect their sons (I remember there was a detail like that in Parasyte the Maxim as well). But the similarities are still feeble and it’s mostly me who wants to dwell on them. Jiwoon isn’t a copycat, he’s a super good character who stands by himself. I loved his evolution and I think I might have fallen in love with him a little bit, as had everybody else in the story. He’s super cool. I liked that he was also attached to his family and friends and he would put them first, as it befits a hero. There was this resistance towards the world (putting his family and himself first, getting stronger for their own good, and not for the world), but that dissipated at the end. Since he had to protect everyone. I can’t find something I found poorly made/drawn, to be honest, I think it was an amazingly good webtoon, well written, superbly drawn and with extreme good character-building (which is so important to this type of story). It’s 10/10 for me from almost all points of view.
I’m not so sure about the added chapters at the end — they were a bit mellow and I was disappointed with the ending. But that’s on me, I saw it coming for a while and I knew broadly how it was going to happen. There were enough hints in regards with the big picture. But I suppose I just do bad with that type of an ending — I wanted the entire world to know he was a hero and I wanted the original setting to remain. But Jiwoon has always been clear on this regard. He was a guy who cared deeply about his family and friends. So it was natural he would sacrifice any glory on their behalf. Some would say it was on his own behalf too, since it benefitted him in the end as well. He could finally lead a closer to normal life, without danger. But I get the feeling it wasn’t just that. He was a damn cool hero and though I have mixed feelings about the ending (and very personal feelings, let’s get straight), I can see it was drawn finely and I have no objective problems with it.

I still wonder why I watched it. I usually drop stuff I don’t like and this was quite bad. I suppose I had two unconscious reasons. The first one was that I hoped it would get better (though that was naive of me) and the second one was pure curiosity. I wanted to see how bad it could get. There were some things I enjoyed about it, and I liked some characters occasionally. However, I have a problem with the entire scope of the show. Some viewers might see grooming here and they won’t be wrong. Though love happens at all ages, it was creepy

to watch an almost 30 year old falling in love with a 17 year old high school girl only because she told him he’s creepy. The entire plot was flawed and creepy, even for an anime. But it wasn’t just that. After all, it’s fiction, you take it or leave it, but it was also quite poorly executed. The characters were insufficiently portrayed and their motives were often under-explained (or shabbily done so, their credibility was close to zero). I didn’t enjoy watching it, I don’t think it gives a good example in many ways and it’s also rather unskillfully produced.

Though quite aware of the fact that it’s not exactly a 10 out of 10 anime, the enjoyment unrolled as such. I’ve managed to avoid watching Kimetsu No Yaiba so far because I was certain I would dislike it. If anything, I have also restrained from reading reviews about it, but there was something about it that made me stay away. As well as with a rather too strong superficial hype about it at some point, all these things made me think it’s just not for me. And, boy, was I mistaken. It was just one of those nights when I couldn’t settle to

do anything and I just clicked with Kimetsu no Yaiba by mistake. I just thought, meh, I’ll just give it a try –how bad can it be? I was immersed in the incredibly good opening song, but I was also taken aback by the strong opening scene. Of course, I know it’s a bait, I recognized it as such —but I thought that, as far as opening baiting scenes go, it wasn’t half bad. It was interesting, overly dramatic and it had potential. In short, it got me interested. Even though the first episodes are a bit slow, I found myself watching it with a right amount of curiosity and, when I came to it, I was loving it already. To be honest, I am not unaware of its faults and holes in plot or the fact that some things just revolve too fast. Rather than fast paced, there might be a need of substance here and there and, if you don’t get into the anime, these things tend to get really annoying as you progress.
However, as far as I’m concerned, I got so much into the anime, that I simply didn’t care about any of its misgivings. And I guess that’s what makes the difference between a well done anime and something mediocre. For me, Kimetsu No Yaiba has all the ingredients for success and I finally get why some people love it so much —I also try my best to understand why some people think it’s lousy. I mean, it has its cliches and, if you dig too much into it, a lot of nasty stuff might come up. I really don’t know. What I know is that I love the art and audiowork and I love the character building, the fights, the story with all its shortcomings and the main character. Yes, that did lots for me.
I’ll just go ahead and say it. I love it that Tanjiro isn’t your usual dumb strong main character as it happens often in mainstream shounen anime. Obviously, I’m thinking of characters like Naruto —whom I’ve loved, but dude, Kishimoto Masashi made him just a teeny tiny bit too dumb at times. Tanjiro might be a country bumpkin and he’s kind to a fault, but he’s also the right amount of smart. He tries to encourage himself even when he’s in battle, he thinks up solutions and acts upon it. I like the fact that, though it doesn’t happen often (and that’s actually an advantageous detail if you ask me), he reflects upon things. And not exactly in a “I will make everything alright” kind of way. He takes in the pain, but he also tries to come up with solutions. He gets frustrated, and then gets back to work. As any good main character ought to, I suppose, but I just like the fact that the author didn’t make him excessively naive and plainly dumb. He’s strong willed and, so far, he has reason to hold on his will. Kudos to that, though otherwise I can say he’s just as mainstream and I love him for that too. Because he’s a good main character and my one whole complaint is that they never show him with his hair in a knot at the back. I mean. He would be sooo nice looking and it would be a nice sight from time to time *sigh* I suppose you can’t have everything.
I love lots of things about this anime, but suffice to say that I liked it so much, I’m going to try the manga now.
