it did not do the original justice. i was really hyped about it so im a bit disappointed. it skipped over and rushed a lot of jokes and story, and focuses a bit too much on the romance. also i wish it used the original soundtrack cause its my favourite, although i really like the reboot's op and ed (ano's voice is just super cute).
it made me really sad that it skipped a lot of plot, and u can really tell... idk it just feels like everything is happening too fast, and not in a good way. but im pretty sure they did it
...
so they could rush shampoo's entrance, since she is one of the most popular characters, and like marketing and stuff. also so many jokes were skipped, so it loses the comedy vibe, so when a joke is actually made it just feels out of place. this also made akane seem a bit violent since its originally more of a gag manga/anime so her violence is supposed to be taken as more of a joke sorta thing like slapstick exaggeration stuff... idk how to explain it...
the other thing is (maybe its just me) but i feel that the romance was focused on a lot more than the original. it might be because the plot was rushed maybe. but i dont usually like romance anime so take this with a grain of salt, but in the original i was squealing and kicking my feet like a school girl everytime they had a romantic moment, because it was kinda rare for them to be all teetee since they were usually fighting. but here i was just wondering why they like each other so quickly. maybe it was the same in the original tho cause its been a while and i might just not remember.
the art is really pretty tho, im glad that its still similar to the original but also unique. but i cant believe they took away girl-ranma's nipples, give my boy his nipples back. but fr the way they censored his nipples by just removing them completely looks a bit strange. the other thing is that whenever there is a fight they add this purple shading, and i feel like it looks good in a still image but in animation it feels a bit too noticeable, but idk that might just be me.
well either way, at least we are getting new figures, and hopefully many new people will find the original thanks to this reboot. but if u havent already, i really recommend watching the original anime! i mean i still appreciate this anime, its good in its own way maybe.. please watch the original tho, its the best.

i rewatched this 3 times because i could not stop spacing out while watching this. there is just so much dialogue. like its really dialogue heavy. i unintentionally zoned out the whole time, so i went back to rewatch it over and over until i gave up... like i cannot remember what happened at all other than maybe the beginning and a little bit of the end, and "no visas?", but i do remember the art was good.
i cant say anything about what exactly happened tho, and idek if that is a reflection of the anime's quality or not because i cant remember... but
...
i thought i would make this review just in case lmao

amazing fujobait, but actual trash if ur actually looking for something serious.
the same as season 1, the mysteries were easy to solve or just didnt make sense or left things unresolved, and the house of M stuff is kinda goofy and cartoon villain-ish, and also it pisses me off the way they violate police protocol and never question ppl separately and other stuff. also they often tell us stuff, but never show it happening. like when they say ron thinks like a criminal i just think "does he? huh i dont remember that happening", and things just happen way too conveniently.
but im not here for
...
the mysteries or story. im here for the fujobait. this is peak fujobait, i love this so much. like near the end of the last episode they made jokes that ppl will think they are a detective couple. like this is some quality fujobait and i am here for it. thank u for blessing me with a season 2 of this garbage

peaked in episode 1, then became a boring harem anime. but its good by harem standards ig... personally i dont like harem tho, so i didnt like it that much and ended up spacing out a bunch, but yeaaa..... this is harem anime in disguise pretending to be deep.
SPOILERS
like when akane tries to off herself, suddenly she magically has a crush on aqua after he saves her. like sorry but i hate this trope where someone falls in love after someone saves them. like i tried to kms the other day, but some girl literally saved me, but surprise ig, im not in
...
love with her. im just grateful. like idk it seems stupid to me, but whatever thats just how i see things ig it could be different for akane. this is also just sorta maybe a perspective thing but how does kana still have a crush on a guy she hasnt seen in so long? like move on girl. its like her life froze in time until she met aqua again, and everything she does revolves around aqua.
and of course aqua will always be right, and everything he does ends up positively for him, and every girl will fall in love with him (even his sister in the manga, which was weird as shit. but this is about the anime, not the manga). anyway, the point is that this is just a boring harem anime imo
plus, its not even "showing the dark side of the idol industry" well. it just uses cheap shock value to pretend that its so deep and stuff. but it never goes into the horrific stuff in a realistic way. like its just really pretentious... sorry its a bit hard for me to describe, cause its more like a vibe thing for me, but it just feels so shallow. like oh no there is cyberbullying and evil stalkers, and thats it. like dont get me wrong those things are horrible, but i wish it leaned more into it and went into more detail or complicated situations. like i think perfect blue did the stalker thing a lot better, and it felt way more realistic somehow.
the other thing is that it feels like there are no consequences to anyone's actions. like how akane is somehow immediately 100% feeling better right after attempting suicide, and then it never gets brought up again.
but episode 1 was really hype tho. i liked it a lot. i just kinda wish this series was a movie instead, where all the stuff surrounding ai was the main focus instead. cause its like even tho she has been dead for so long, she is the only character i care about and like, and she really just outshines her kids and everyone else. like no wonder why there are so many figures of her. but idk why she was being all nice and going on this long ass monologue to the stalker when he stabbed her, it felt a bit unrealistic and took me out of the moment ig. like she didnt scream or freak out or freeze or run at all so it felt a bit strange, like the author was making sure we know how amazing she is again, just in case we forgot after every character made sure to tell us that she is amazing.
also idk why this had to be a reincarnation story, like it wouldve been perfectly fine without the reincarnation plot. its not like the characters ever use their past life's knowledge for anything useful (like aqua being an actual doctor in the past).
