Watamote is a straight to the point sequence of event, not much of a story more like a SOL, that follows our MC in the turmoil that is the combination of her way of seeing things, the way she want things to come out, how they actually come out and reality.

It starts pretty light and in many instances she feels like a character that deserves what she gets, she ain't exactly a saint.
Later on, with the introduction of her friend, is when this anime shows its intentions : its a comedy but her thoughts, ideas and actions are not directly done to be comic, those ... are really just her and that is when it all comes back and hits you that all she does is try to fit in but she is terrible at doing it, it's like watching a train derail over and over BUT not for the lack of trying and oh boy does she try desperately to be part of something even on a small capacity but she fails but now it is neglect by the people she considered "unworthy" of her time or other coping mechanism.

The music is great and the animations are good for the most part, there isn't much of a story and the cast is very small but fitting.

My reasoning for giving it a 6 and mixed feelings is that the switch from comedy into a "comedy but she is being herself" is a really sharp, everything turn very serious very fast.

Imagine building up for 19 episodes for something and without a warning or reason the writer "plots-out", does a 180 and takes the story into a different direction, very annoying right? Now add to that that the reason you kept going was that the characters, humor, story and romance all were holding the series together but that twist from before just turned everything upside down and the balance is completely gone.

Free loader rich spoiled child meets a man servant next door and abuses of his good will whenever possible. This narcissistic girl has no issues with trampling all over people to get what she ... wants but she always drops before getting it in favor of pursuing another goal.

This is the no-story-dora. Then we have the off-screen-dora that is used by the writer to make things go a certain way even if it makes no sense or there's no reason for it.

Romance wise is when the poo really hits the fan and every other character really shows their colors and oh boy they are really bad : cowards, backstabbers, manipulators and selfish "good for nothing" people, no one has a little bit of common sense and stop making stupid rash decisions that make no sense in the anime or IRL.

The cherry on the poo cake is that the core cause of all this just decided to stop making everyone and everything awkward and still no other character is wise enough to make a move, they just stand and watch like the indecisive/goalless they are.

The writers also took the opportunity amidst the wreckage to pull the trigger on the 180.

The humor is good.

If you want to watch something similar but in 12 episodes and just enjoy a bumpy ride there are lots of romcoms out there that are pretty good in 12 episode format which are expected to have plot holes and inconsistencies since they only have 12 episodes to work with, aka, the season must be a full story but when you have 25 from the get go it is just poor planning.

Mob Psycho 100 I : 80% gag comedy, 10% action, 10% personal stories
Mob Psycho 100 II : 40% trying to make Mob a social and empathy expert despite never actually sticking and having impact on 1 episode only, 40% making Reigen feel like a good guy even though he is a con artist that Mob believes is a good guy even though he 100% understands who he is and what he does further reinforcing how Mob has not developed in any meaningful sense, 10% action, 10% gag comedy

Mob II suffers from an identity crisis : it wants to be Mob I and ONP and be ... serious and have gag humor and be deep. It ends up as a mess of all those.

From the get go, starting immediately with a different tone of narration and story telling but landing exactly between ONP and Mob I with most good aspects of both stripped out in favor of trying to accomplish some sort of moral assessment of Mob through inconsistent and forced development that is used in 1 situation(2 if standing near a living bomb preaching counts) on the last episode.

After that point, you are presented with a Mob that suddenly got a master class in social interactions.
Instead of being clueless to things, he now knows how to handle every situation perfectly but the fact that he got this way, a huge change in his personality, in so little time and for so basic reasons feels completely off.

This also marks the start of Mob never failing to deliver a speech in a manner so out of tone that goes way past the point of being taken either as a gag or seriously. This further adds to the awkwardness of most situation Mob is actually involved, that is, when he isn't MIA or doing something pointless off screen that is dropped on the viewer later.

"ONP attempting to develop their characters seriously but still ending up with mostly shallow and pointless ones" would also be an apt description of Mob II, this fact is is so persistent that I lost count to how many times I had to go back and re-watch a few parts of dialogue because what the characters were saying made absolutely no sense, specially when talking about Mob.

The huge cast of characters is completely wasted as most achieve absolutely nothing but being exposition tools or just simple "exist" because they are shown for a seconds on the screen as part of an expositionist' exposition.

The villain and his group are as developed as the main cast and everything about them screams "I wanted to make them bad guys so I gave them these characteristics and background in 5 min of air time". They also make their appearance sudden and late in the season and even then most of the time they are not even the center of attention.

The art and animation serve their purpose and although they look like budget for the most part it was not a turn off for me.
The OP an ED are a huge downgrade from Mob I but they do their job just fine.

All in all, the good parts are very good when they are not disrupted by the core faults of the series and the bad parts are really just a reoccurring nuisance that pop-up enough times to break the episode's flow or give it a lack/change of direction. Most of it is due to how the episodes were done and rushed through the parts that needed more time to settle in properly to feel natural.

I still recommend giving it a go, maybe these flaws that ruined it for me will not be an issue for others
