Yuri!!! on Ice

Depthy research on the subject of each series (space exploration/competitive figure skating), and consistent themes of self improvement and friendship. Both titles display masterful renditions of character development and have excellent soundtracks, albeit there being significantly less fan service (and budget) in Uchuu Kyoudai.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
|
Though Kaze Tachinu is much darker, both take place during pre and post-war eras and feature a coming of age story. Beautiful narratives and heavy focus on details of the time period. One distinct difference is that Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is much easier to swallow.

Both series are categorized as shoujo/romance with an overshadowing theme of friendship and social anxiety. While Orange is darker than Kimi ni Todoke, both involve exploring the modern, unspoken difficulties of connecting with others and the result of cultivating a meaningful relationship.

Both titles include light hearted comedic leads that well embody the annoying younger sister (Umaru and Naru) and responsible older brother (Taihei and Seishuu) archetype to put up with their constant harassment.
