The sign of a good anime is that emptiness you feel when it's over. That's what I'm feeling at the moment. This anime has been like a rollercoaster ride, that I want to go faster and faster and never stop. The spine-tingling, heart-pumping feverish excitement that possessed me is now over. Durarara was a heck of a ride.
Story:
The fast-paced breakneck speed of the anime is what really excited me with this show. The only other show that I think have made me feel like this is probably Code Geass and Death Note. With every episode, a small part of the mystery unravels, and you start seeing
...
the dots connecting. At times you are just as clueless as the characters, at times you know so much that they don't, and you're practically trying to jump into the screen to tell them. The absolute genius behind the storyline is completely breathtaking, with so many twists and turns it blows your mind away sometimes. The intricate web of networks in a thriving metropolis like Ikebukuro, and how every character is interrelated, and every action has overrreaching consequences, is mindblowing to say the least. With plenty of action, crazy (and I mean CRAZYYYY) characters, and a plot that shakes everything up, Durarara will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Art: I'm the kind of person who puts story before art, so if the storyline is good, the art doesn't really matter to me much. I think the studio did a good job though, as I could really feel the colours and contrasts that a complicated city like Ikebukuro has, and I love the opening and ending art very much, how they introduced the characters names. I also loved how they would put snippets from the previous ep in the opening song, blending it in very well.
Sound: It is no exaggeration for me to say that the OP was the first thing that I fell in love with in Durarara. Both OP songs are fantastic, the first more rock and the second more laidback, with lyrics that suited the anime and the story so well. The ending songs were also brilliant, especially the first one. And this anime had so many amazing seiyuus, it's hard to find a place to start! KAmiya Hiroshi as Izaya, Ono Daisuke as Shizuo, and Miyano Mamoru as Kida and the list goes on! They all did such a fantastic job~
Character: This is the other shining gem in this anime. The cast is immense, but yet you feel like you know each and every one of them. Every character is unique, and have such wonderful developments that I wonder how on earth did they manage to do all that in 24 eps. Izaya especially is a wonderful character, he made me wonder whether I actually love him or hate him, but I think in the end I still love him despite his evilness, just because he's so cunning and epic. And his arch rival, Shizuo is nothing like him, yet just as epic and sooo badass! Say "flying vending machine" to any Durarara fan, and they will immediately relate it to Shizuo. The best fighting scenes are any with Shizuo in them, and any episode with him in it will be freaking amazing, trust me. I love you SHIZUO! The three main characters, Mikado, Kida and Anri are all the "I am not who I seem" types. Then you have a headless rider, Celty, who turns out to be nowhere near scary and more like an adorable moe girl who sucks at cooking and is scared of aliens and cops. You have a Russian dude who works at a sushi shop, you get a crazy young doctor who is in love with Celty, and a few other important characters (Kadota!!) and you get a crazy mixing pot in Ikebukuro, where crazy things happen with all these crazy people.
Overall....just watch it. My excitement must have made an impression by now. You won't regret it :D
Now when is the second season coming....hurry upppppppp

As a huge fan of the supernatural genre, especially anything to do with kami-sama (gods) and youkai, Noragami was definitely in my list for anime of 2014. And I am so glad it was! My only complaint is the length of the anime (too short!) which obviously means I loved it.
Story: The story grabbed me within the first 1 minute of the show, as I could see that there's gonna be action (which I love), supernatural stuff (also my fave) and comedy (always good to have some). The story revolves around Yato, an obscure god trying to make a name for himself; Hiyori, a normal
...
girl who ends up being not very normal and becoming a half Phantom; and Yukine, a young boy who is a spirit and ends up being Yato's weapon. The story is quite fast paced, with never a dull moment, but takes it time when necessary (especially when important scenes are happening). There's a lot going on in the background, and you can tell there's more to the story than what is obvious, and that just keeps reeling you in to find out more, especially about Yato's past. But unfortunately due to the length of the anime, not everything is revealed yet, and a sense of unfulfillment settles in, which is why I gave the series 8 instead of 9 overall (here's to hoping for a second season!)
Art: Clean dynamic art, with very intense colours (I absolutely adore Yato's eyes!) typical of Bones studio style. Reminded me off Ao no Exorcist and Zetsuen no Tempest's art style. I think other reviewers mentioned it too, about the scenes where Yato slices up the Phantoms and how it's such a cool scene with great artwork but keeps getting repeated (yes,I agree some variations would be nice). But other than that, the artwork is awesome, especially battle scenes! Character design was also really good, I felt that the characters matched their appearances quite well, and nothing was too overdone (something I have a bit of a bias against)
Sound: Loved the rock style opening, and the OST during the battle scenes especially were fantastic and set the mood really well. The ending song was also quite good, setting a more gentle tone. But the most wonderful thing about sound was definitely the amazing cast of seiyuus! The voice actors were amazing, with Yato being voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi, who I absolutely adore! How he manages to juggle the different sides of Yato is superb, and Kaji Yuki as Yukine was also fantastic! He's always had a penchant for voicing young troubled boys, and this time he did a great job yet again. Fukuyama Jun is also one of my favourite seiyuus, and despite being a supporting character, he made quite an impression as Kazuma too. Overall, the voice cast is just superb!
Character: This is also where Noragami shines for me. The happy-go-lucky guy with a dark past has always been my weakness, and Yato is exactly that. He comes across as idiotic and funny, but has a dark past; he acts like he doesn't care, yet does so much for the people he cares about. Yukine is a typical boy in puberty, filled with his share of problems that we all go through at that age, with his case being much worse because he's already dead. But he manages to over come his issues, and shows the greatest change among all three main characters. Hiyori is a favourite of mine, being such a difference from the typical girl, instead pulling out a martial art/wrestling move in her first appearance, and always reacting in a way that I didn't see coming. But Noragami manages to make every character shine, with even supporting characters being fleshed out and developed really well, so you felt like you could relate to all of them. The supporting characters are the key players that make this anime shine, and I enjoy seeing their interaction with the main characters.
Overall, Noragami is a great anime, with colourful characters, a fast paced storyline, and a good balance of action, comedy and drama. Really hoping for a second season!

(This review is for both seasons)
If you like animes like Honey and Clover, Kimi ni Todoke, and Natsume Yuujinchou, you'd like this. Its a slice of life type of anime about 5 guys and their friendship and their daily lives in high school. Nothing dramatic happens, no villains or sudden twists, but somehow the story still manages to draw you in with every episode. If you need a break at the end of a long day, this anime is just the thing to put a smile on your face and make you feel all fuzzy inside.
Story: Very laidback pace, with every episode either being told
...
from a certain character's perspective (so you can hear his thoughts) or just general third-person perspective. The overarching theme is about friendship, as 4 of the guys have been friends since kindergarten, while the 5th guy just transferred and joins them. The story deals with their daily lives, the small conflicts and events that happen in everyday high school life (clubs, sibling fights, relationship stuff, admiration for a senior etc). The charm of this anime is how it is subtly it manages to make you think and reflect on your own life (if you're out of high school, this is gonna make you miss those days a lot!), and make every moment seem special :)
Art: Simple and clean, lots of pastels. Similar in style to Natsume Yuujinchou, which makes me love it even more. My favourite thing is how they have lots of CATS! The cats are sort of a representation of the 5 guys (and occasionally other characters) and are completely adorable and hilarious!
Sound: Love the ending songs of both seasons, and the background tracks, especially in season 1, are really good. Very chilled laidback songs, a bit like Corinne Bailey Rae songs (look her up on Youtube, she's great), that make you feel like you're lying in the warm sunlight on a spring day with a gentle breeze.
Character: Absolutely loved the boys, each with their own unique personality. Kaname as the typical smart aleck with glasses and is in the Student Council, but surprisingly hot tempered and gets bullied by the twins a lot. The good looking twins, both have different personalities, and are charming in different ways. They always crack me up with their jokes! Shun is always mistaken as a girl, and is always kind and gentle. Chizuru is the loudest and most childish one, but is a sweetie when it comes to love :) each character are given their moments to shine, and every episode peels a layer off to reveal more about the characters, and keeps you coming back for more.
Overall, you'll be smiling a lot, and occasionally laughing out loud, while watching this anime. Like a slice of hot chocolate brownie, its sweet and yummy, and makes you feel all warm inside.

This is one of those animes which just somehow makes its way into your heart and makes such a deep imprint that you would probably never be able to forget it. Natsume Yuujinchou (I watched all 4 seasons, and reviewing them in one go as they are more like a single entity anyway) is a beautiful rare gem in the anime world that often goes unnoticed, yet each and every person I know who have watched it have been touched so deeply by it.
Story:
The highlight of this anime is the storyline, and how its delivered. It has a very laidback pace, allowing the story
...
to gently bloom; the exact opposite of an intense high speed story. But it manages to do that with a grace that is never dull or boring, and just mesmerizes so you are pulled along gently by the story. The anime is episodic in nature, so every episode has a different story, but the 2nd season onwards do build upon previous stories and characters, so there is a sense of continuity. The main theme is about the conflict between the supernatural world of the youkais and humans, and Natsume's struggle to find his place in between these conflicting worlds. The theme of self discovery and companionship, as well as kindness and acceptance are the main focus of the anime, and well written and developed.
Art: I love the gentle vignette style of the art, with soft colours and landscapes, rather than details and sharp contrasts, this seems to suit the characters and the story better anyway. It reminds me a bit of Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's art style (Totoro especially).
Sound: Absolutely LOVED all the openings and endings for all 4 seasons, they all fit the story so well, and the atmosphere and mood of the anime. The seiyuus were also brilliant, especially Nyanko sensei (Kazuhiko Inoue, who is also the voice behind loads of famous roles like Kakashi from Naruto)
Character:
I fell utterly in love with Natsume within the first season, and fell deeper with every episode since then. The character development for Natsume and Nyanko-sensei especially were done very well, and I love how the 2nd season onwards had more regular characters who stayed on for more of the series (the first season usually had characters come on just for one ep). Even with characters who didn't stay long, they still managed to give a solid impression and a fully fleshed character setting. Every character was realistic and relatable, and managed to engage my emotions well. Natsume will always have a special place in my heart
