If there was anime that was so meaningful and creative that it could be considered art, this would be it.
It contains so many deep philosophical messages while also providing insight into the psyche of both adults and young teenagers. At first, Neon Genesis Evangelion seems like a normal Man Versus Supernatural mech-type anime. But then later on branches into many more modern types of conflict within the story. I could elaborate on these but I feel it is better for the viewer to find out themselves.
The art style in this show is mostly very retro and has a very 1995 vibe to it
...
(of course due to the fact that this is when it came out). But the art style does become much more advanced throughout the show, becoming a lot like Don Hertzfeldt or Mob Psycho 100, where they take a very simple and consistent art style and apply medium changes or more modern and unique levels or detail and style in order for a scene to be more dramatic to the viewer (again I would elaborate, however it's best to remain unexplained as a surprise to the viewer).
The sound-track on this show is very simple yet very good. They tend to stick to a few very simple yet appropriate tracks in the beginning but they proceed to branch out and use some different ones when the time is needed, making that moment ever the more meaningful.
The characters in this show are very deep but also relatable to ourselves. Not necessarily in the ways of personality and such but in a deeper way. (This part is the most important to remain unexplained). While we probably may hate the characters at first, the show explains a lot about them, making them much more fleshed out and relatable.
This show is one of the most addicting show for me that I have ever encountered. I watched about 3 hours of this show in one day and finished the entire series in about 5 days. (this may not be that impressive for most of you, however my media-viewing endurance is not very good and 9 times out of 10 i cannot watch a show for more than an hour, also I did not have time over the weekend to watch this, hence the unimpressive amount of days). But in summary this show is the most addicting show I have seen, I literally lost sleep thinking about what had happened in the last episode I had watched, this show is really hard to stop watching, seriously.
TIPS:
Try to at least watch a little over half of it, it may not be that interesting at first but it definitely will be
Give 100% attention to it, if you don't read every single sub-title this show will become very confusing very fast. For some reason some people do not always pay attention to the anime they watch, (I have no idea why the hell they would do this). You cannot do this for this show.
Do not binge it all in one day, its too much of a mindfuck and if you are tired you might miss some stuff.
Review what has happened so far in your head frequently, this will help you remember why things are happening and piece together a timeline in your head

All in all this is definitely one of my favorite anime of all time, if you like anime that instills any kind of emotion, this is a show for you. And in my opinion, a must-watch for all.
