A ten year gap between a series and a change of directors can cause huge issues in a sequel. However, this sequel has passed beyond all marks from just the first 7 episodes.
The staff completely captured the essence of the first season. They continued to maintain the spirit of the show and original cast while also introducing new, non-invasive side characters. Golden Ryan, a character who felt rushed in the movies, is flushed out more here as well, which goes beyond expectations. The same kind of humor is present, but innovated even further to go beyond the main two characters.
My only compliant so far

is that the animation and art overall is choppy at times. The art subtlety switches to the movie style and the original style in a inconsistent way. The CGI, though well done, is noticeable when done on characters like Blue Rose and Dragon Kid. But with a 10 year gap and a new staff, they pretty much perfected it. It is very seamless in continuation.
My favorite part about this sequel is that we do learn all about of the characters we didn't get to know much in the first season. Not only in the building of the relationships, but the character growth between the seasons is nicely done.
I am so grateful for the staff for researching and respecting the source material so closely and making something truly great.
