I liked this much more than I initially thought I would. On the surface, it does seem to be a sort of edge-lord "everything is terrible" kind of story, but there is more going on underneath all that than you might initially think. It can be graphic, but the violence is nearly comical, with how unrealistic it is. The most important thing to my viewing was the visuals: Sawa's red eyes, the red earrings, splashes of blood. While perhaps not recommended for a first approach to Tatsuki Fujimoto's work, "Goodbye Eri" is a thoughtful and interesting look at the way we view other people in our lives, and how they are portrayed in our memories. Across Tatsuki Fujimoto's manga, it is clear that he has a respect and interest for cinema as an art form. "Chainsaw Man" comes to mind. In "Goodbye Eri," we see an interest in film-making, and respect for unconventional ways of conveying stories. His art is perhaps my favorite of any work I've read, with the panels shown through a camera lens being blurred and repeated when necessary
