While most of the reviews here have praised Kekkai Sensen, I have to say that this kind of anime requires some sort of acquired taste.
If you watched Durarara and Baccano, and (perhaps rather oddly) like me, dislike both of them for making little sense, explaining a bit of everything everywhere, and having essentially no plot, you may NOT enjoy this series.
Like the 2 aforementioned animes, Kekkai Sensen features plenty of nameless characters that are absurd, scenes that you may not understand (e.g. in fights, who's doing what, and sometimes even who's who), and non-linear storylines. I won't provide an example to avoid spoiling, but
...
let's just say some guy who has insane fighting skills also has insane superpowers is incidentally the human race's best chess player (better than pro players) just when it's needed.
Ok enough about the characters and the plot, if there's one thing I DO enjoy about Kekkai Sensen it would be the sound. I like the opening and ending tracks, as well as the ambient music, and how it changes the atmosphere of the scenes as it goes along. This is probably the only thing that kept me watching.
To close, I have to say that there are plenty of people who enjoy animes like this, but if you, like me, do not enjoy multiple non-linear storylines coupled with barrages of nonsense and nameless random characters, probably you might want to look somewhere else.
