I started watching this anime because Gigguk said it was the biggest pile of overpowered wish-fulfillment garbage that he ever watched and boy did this show deliver.
After watching it over and over again in a short amount of time I'm still not sure if this is a parody still. I would also like to remind the watchers of this show and the reader of this review, somebody wrote this. If you like over powered MC trash you'll enjoy this. Maximum enjoyment can be gained if you know a good amount of light novel tropes. If I could give a negative score I totally would because
...
this digs it's head in so far in the trash it comes out being genuinely enjoyable a majority of the time. This anime seems like some alien or extra dimensional creature wanted to make a hyper popular light novel and threw together tropes, themes, and writing concepts without understanding how they work. The funny thing is that there are some genuinely good writing elements within this story that is overshadowed by the trashy premise the over powered main cast.
When it comes to the technical aspects, the show is competent. The faster than light action is usually the same three frames pushed around the screen. There is also some skimping when it comes to these large weighty actions in the animation. The music does it's job. I don't really remember it doing anything amazing however this leads to one of my biggest bugbears. . .
This is purely subjective but the fan club was the only thing that made me hate the anime. If this had one punch man season one technical aspects got rid of the fan club I would rate this 10/10. The one thing that made me cringe heavily rather than laugh until my sides were orbiting. However I do recognize the fan club is needed for . . .
the themes. The themes are pretty strong and in your face. It's about love, friendship, family and all those other tropes you have in the current anime climate. If that's what you want it's there. While watching you realize you aren't watching a story, you're watching a string of tropes and thematic elements and there is little to no chaff what so ever and that's part of what makes this show so amazing to watch.
If you read a lot of the other reviews, the pacing is brought up. I would say that the pacing is consistent. As I said before the anime goes from trope to trope or thematic element to thematic element with nothing in-between. Events happen at a breakneck pace with no breathing room and I find it amazing. I don't get the ending being rushed criticism because the entire plot seems like it could keep pace with our over powered main character.
Now if I were to grade or rate the story and characters seriously I would straight up give those elements one or two out of tens and call it a day. However the story is actually around a three or four out of ten and with some fixes to the narrative and the pacing you could get it to a seven which I find frankly amazing that this toxic waste could make it to something useable with some easy fixes. Again though there are some interesting writing elements with set up and pay offs and some interesting small details that someone was paying attention to. However the characters are still trash but nobody cares because anyone who's watching this for enjoyment knows it's a terrible terrible trash fire and the worse it is and the more it plays it straight the more I enjoy it.
If you want the equivalent of B movie shlock of over powered main character light novel adaptations that plays all it's terrible tropes straight come watch this. You will find nothing that would be able to represent the over powered main character genre better than this.
