It is in most senses your typical mediocre, 1-episode kids OVA, but I did think that it did well in 1 way: It really gives off a sense of the puniness of the story being told. The implied universe they're in is gigantic and foreign, and it doesn't stop to explain anything to them or the viewer. In a sense, the characters are as brand new to the universe as the viewer is.
In the end it shows a completely new environment from the rest of the episode, and then a far off electrical storm, and offers absolutely no explanation. There was utterly no reason for
...
it to be there, and I found that kind of interesting. They throw you into what could be a vast and fascinating universe, just to shamelessly tear you from it after 20 minutes, with no chance of returning. I felt it was a good change from the norm, where the characters are the center of the universe and everything has to make sense to the viewer. This feeling is what I love(and hate) about this kind of 1-episode OVA. A whole universe blooms before your eyes, just to shrivel and die after 1 episode. Maybe I'm just trying too hard to find good parts to justify a bad anime. I don't regret watching it, though.

First of all, keep in mind that this was made exclusively for the Ghibli museum in Japan. It has never been officially released outside of the museum, and the film itself has never been solidly leaked online either. Your only way to watch it is to either go to the museum or watch one of the few camrip versions. The camrips are not pretty, but it's not like they will prevent you from getting any enjoyment out of it. With that said, it's time to review the film itself.
This is a short film that takes place after the events of My Neighbor Totoro. The younger
...
sister, Mei, meets the child of the Catbus, and they do a little bit of exploring. It's cute, just like My Neighbor Totoro was. However, it is still only a 15 minute short. The "story" is more of a series of short interactions between Mei and various magical creatures. It should go without saying, but there was no conflict whatsoever.
Artwork is well done, in the same style as My Neighbor Totoro. At multiple points during this short film, they managed to include the signature Ghibli imagery of a young girl innocently interacting with something that most people would find to be off-putting. Gives you the idea that she's so innocent that she doesn't know that she's supposed to be bothered by it. I wont give you an example, since it would count as a spoiler, but you'll know what I mean if you watch it.
Sound is greatly lacking. The background music was just some edited version of the intro song from My Neighbor Totoro(which was used as background music throughout Totoro as well) and I found it to be fairly boring, since it was pretty much just repeating over and over over the course of the short film. Also, and this is my opinion which may anger other Ghibli fanatics, Mei's voice acting is poor. It puts me on edge because it is far too loud and abrasive. I know it is meant to mimic the energy of a spunky young girl, but its just too loud for comfort. Again, that is my opinion, and you'll have to watch it yourself to make any final judgment on the topic.
Characters are fine. Mei, Totoro, and Catbus were already established in My Neighbor Totoro, and you get about as much character depth out of Kittenbus as you could hope to get out of a magical cat that lets people ride around in its body.
Enjoyment: I thought it was cute. Its main goal was to drive home the feeling of childish innocence and playfulness, and it succeeded. I enjoyed it as an extra bonus to Totoro.
Overall, I think it's a nice extra. Could it have made a good stand-alone film? Absolutely not. You would be bored and potentially confused if you watched this before watching My Neighbor Totoro. Just watch it if you wanna feel nostalgic about Totoro.
PS: You can torrent the camrip off of Bakabt. The one on Bakabt has fantastic audio and it is subbed. I have no idea whether My Anime List gets angry if you talk about torrents in your reviews, but oh well.

I watched Ping Pong the Animation as it aired, since the first episode. I almost dropped it after seeing the first episode, because of the art style. It's extremely unconventional, to a ridiculous degree. Technically I actually did drop it. However, the next week when I thought about it I decided to give it another shot, and that was when I realized that I really enjoyed it.
The character relationships are very modest and feel real. No single personality is similar in any way, not even amongst background characters. They also saw to it that each and every character was developed throughout the series.
In terms of
...
the sports side of it, I suppose it's up to interpretation. If you don't find the art style growing on you, you may not enjoy the scenes where they play matches. However, if the art style does grow on you, you'll get seriously pumped up for it. The art style may be madly unconventional and the characters may seem to be the main draw, but this is a sports anime at heart and maaaaan do they play sports. Every single match is more awesome than the last.
The soundtrack is pretty great, as well. I find myself listening to the OP in my free time. Every song they use matches the mood of the show and the attitude of the scene perfectly.

Writing this review because I have absolutely no idea what the other reviewers are talking about. The artwork was a nice alternative and indie style, the soundtrack was fairly good, the voice acting was on point, but the characters and plot are absolute garbage. The people who made it seem to absolutely not understand human emotions, which resulted in two absolutely garbage characters.Throughout the story they just use each other for sexual fulfillment. They are only together so that they can fuck, and they are only fucking because they're both lonely and empty beings. The only thing that would dictate that either of them cares
...
for the other is that they say they love each other a lot, and yet both viciously attack each other on physical and psychological levels throughout the series. If you were looking for a pleasant romance in which two girls fall in love in the purest way, look elsewhere. If you were looking for a realistic drama in which the relationship of two characters is tested through hardships and in the end the outcome is one you can believe, look elsewhere.
Only watch this anime if you are looking for an anime about two girls who have not realized their sadomasochistic nature and who cannot understand the idea of human emotions. There is no love in this story. Only manipulation.
That said, I rated it a 10 on my personal list in order to support the yuri genre ^w^
