[Ignore the rating. Its mandatory for some reason, I dont remember MAL always being like that. Consider the rating to reflect the aesthetic]
I feel like for stuff like this, its to be judged on personal resonance with the vibes rather than narrative or flow- as this is more of a capsule of feelings and the era of time for the author.
That being said, I've never had much of any pity for those who cut themselves. If you wanna log off then log off, if not I care not for your dramatic showings. Idk. I was an abused orphan I fought FOR life and pleasure not
...
against my own and especially not due to the conceptualizations of others. Not that I never had any whiny drama but my instinct is to define myself not yearn for an external purpose or conceptualization.
So yeah, I'm not gonna judge this on narrative. I will say once I got past my disdain for the above I was pretty invested in seeing what would befall the main girl.
Vibe wise? Stellar. I named my shiny Darkrai after this manga. I love her artwork and i'll likely be purchasing physical copies.
Recommended for: aesthetes, moodboard makers, pinterest users, dark elegant gothic vibe queens and/or those who have personal resonance with the themes and narrative of angsty melancholy of fleeting beauty. If you dont vibe too much with the narrative themes, well dude its pretty freaking short just skim through and enjoy the art

Boku dake ga Inai Machi features one of the most consistently heart-rending stories I have seen in an anime thus far. Though I am a complete sissy, never before has an anime had me on the absolute brink of tears in worry for the characters every single episode. This anime does an excellent job of portraying a very realistic-feeling narrative using very fantasy-like means. In other words, it maintains a perfect balance of magic and realism. Boku dake ga Inai Machi does an even better job of attaching the viewer to the characters (surprisingly enough, even ones that have little actual screen time), which serves
...
to further intensify the plot. However, this title does not go without fault, as none do. Some of the characters (mainly the perceived antagonists) seem slightly dull or cliché as if they have no true reason for being the villain that they are. For an anime so vivid in it's depiction of human nature, I was a tad bit disappointed that the backstory of some villains were a little vague or left out (while this issue is cleaned up more in the manga, this is an anime review and will focus on the anime alone). Overall, though, Boku dake ga Inai Machi is an excellent anime that is able to take many forms and borrow from several genres in order to get its point across. I would recommend this anime to viewers who prefer realistic-leaning anime.

Of course one would need to have watched the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series to have proper context going into this film (although my heart does race at the thought of watching this as a standalone film), and with that said, End Of Evangelion is the single most thrilling film I have probably ever seen to date. It truly had me hanging on the edge with a lightning quick heartbeat for the entire duration. This was the ending to Neon Genesis that my heart truly needed. The art was a step up (as expected) from that of the anime series, the beautiful and extremely complex

character progressions continued on par, and the story line only intensified. Although I came into this film expecting a shady attempt at fixing the disappointing ending from Neon Genesis in the most predictable way, Gainax quickly shot down any expectations I had of the film in the first 15 minutes. It's very hard for me to truly sum up the beauty of this film relative to the series without including spoilers, so i'll close this review with the unequivocal truth of this film: Masterpiece.

What else can I say? Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of the most thought provoking, influential, and gripping anime ever created. It is truly a conceptual masterpiece. It's references are endless (from the deep religious concepts such as the book of genesis and the kabbalah to the call to japan's history of giant mecha films) and it manages to weave every one of it's influences together seamlessly. It features one of the most realistic and complex character developments i've seen in any television series by way of its protagonist, Shinji Ikari, and its exploration of human interactions and emotions left me wanting to evaluate the

way I treat/think of others. The battles are excellent, not just some silly punch-em-up you would expect from a giant mecha series. Yes, even the Eva units are at the mercy of the realistic nature of machine battle and have limits on their power sources. All of the characters are more or less unique and I was left wondering who was truly the good guy until the final episodes. Which unfortunately brings me to my only problem with this series: the ending. While I do understand the situation Gainax was going through at the time (I would have given this a 10 if End Of Evangelion would count towards it), I still must be unbiased in how I review what is quite possibly one of my favorite anime ever. I was on the edge of my seat through this whole series, often unable to focus at school due to constant contemplation of this series' plot and the agendas of different character and groups. It all felt like it was for nothing once I was hit with a hard to watch, drawn out, low-budget ending. I recommend anyone who watches this series to immediately watch the End Of Evangelion film after this series. Fortunately, despite the ending, this series still sticks out as one of the greatest anime of all-time for me, and is easily a eternally rewatchable classic. Hideaki Anno, you are a creative genius.

Gargantia On The Verdurous Planet is an unforgettable anime series that provided for me a very bittersweet viewing experience. Sweet because I thoroughly enjoyed every last bit of it, bitter because there wasn't more to it than 1 season. Gargantia is essentially all of my favorite anime concepts rolled into one. Giant robots, vivid worlds, outer space, artificial intelligence, age-old wars, alternative species and a somewhat realistic fantasy view at the future. The main character Ledo is used to convey the always relevant story of a soldier who finally stops to question the very reason that he is fighting. He is a surprisingly complex character
...
that undergoes a very beautiful progression throughout the story that is sure to awaken a strong sense of humanitarianism in all those who watch (or at least it did for me). The natives of Gargantia and the way that their everyday lives were put together is one of the most accurate and fluid interpretations of a post-futuristic world that I have seen in a film or television series thus far. This wouldn't be an accurate review if I didn't address the bad in this series, but I would be a liar if I said that I was at odds with anything except the length of this series. However, even the short-lived length of the series does provide a positive, as it doesn't allow for any room to ruin a near-perfectly told and crafted story and makes the series very accessible without having to sit through hours of episodes in order to play catch-up. Gargantia is one of my favorite short series of all-time, and I would recommend it to any anime fan eager to explore a vast world with an impressive blend of fantasy and realism.

Firstly, I am a huge fan of Studio Ghibli, and this movie kind of automatically hits home for me because of this. I am also a lover of vintage anime animation, and I can really appreciate that here. What we're shown of the world is vast, and the concept and phenomena present in this film is very interesting to say the least. I love the theme of nature and how it is presented throughout the film. With that said, though, I will say this movie is a bit below the standard of a good Hayao Miyazaki film. Poor character depth and a very rushed ending
...
somewhat bring down a very strong build-up. Overall though it is still a thoroughly enjoyable film, as Studio Ghibli films are meant more so to convey a sense of magic in it's teaching of lessons rather than be a deep, psychological piece. I would still recommend this film to any lover of magical, vivid anime movies.
