Probably one of my favorite isekais in recent memory that is NOT a guilty pleasure.
Pretty much all the characters in this are absurdly likeable, and the writing and VO across the board is quite solid. The main character's VO is so damn good especially. And the animation quality is more than enough to support the anime's silly hijinks and badass moments.
The story never got too cheesy or too serious, there's always a slight lighthearted element that makes the anime feel energetic, but it has a couple strong emotional punches too. The main gimmick of healing magic is a simple but very effective way
...
in supporting the MC's massive growth and making it feel believeable.
I gotta respect the restraint from doing dumb fan service stuff, aside from one character acting horny a couple times.
I think the only time the anime slowed down is during the flashback episodes in the second half of the season, but it's nothing too fatal. This was a very pleasant surprise, and I hope it gets a second season!

The most impressive thing about Eminence is that it not only excels at the comedic angle of poking fun at all sorts fantasy anime tropes and wish fulfillment, but also does a pretty good job of building a competently written fantasy world with a good amount of depth and personality.
Cid's witty antics is very entertaining for the most part, although it is increasingly tempered by how oblivious he can be of how his actions affect others: it reminds me a bit of prototypical anime romance main characters being so dense, although its nowhere near as tiring. But its worth the hassle, the way Cid
...
tries to satisfy his fantasy of becoming the perfect not-so-ordinary background character is honestly quite inspiring at times. He is truly an entertainer at heart.
I come to enjoy pretty much most of the side characters as well. There's a lot of other great character moments, both comedic and serious, that doesn't subdue the impacts of each other and also effectively flesh out the personality of the characters. Its quite telling that I'm so enamored by Annerose's lowkey cute vibes, despite her screen time being relatively limited.
As I teased before, the quality of the animations and the general visual directing are quite impressive overall. The fight scenes are all satisfyingly fluid and impactful, backed up with strong and detailed sound design. The audiovisuals also does the comedic scenes justice: the moment Beta and Epsilon argue over their looks is heightened by the way that scene unfolds.
In short, Eminence is indeed anime trash, but intentionally so. It is truly a meta reflection of its main character.

Well, this turned out to be quite the surprise. The thing that impressed me the most about this manga is how much emotional weight it has. The premise of a big monster girl dating a small "ordinary" boy is a pretty common trope that is mostly used for trashy ends, but this manga managed to weave many meaningful tales with it, in its relatively short lifespan. It's a story of outsiders trying to adapt, to be the thing that they always wanted to be, to coexist with their surroundings and make the most of it. And its also a story of what it means to
...
be human. The supernatural angle of the story is utilized to tell a very human story, and it's very well done. It's not a dramatic tearjerker by any means, it tends to be lighthearted, but every serious moment feels effortlessly impactful.
At its heart, it's also a romance story, and it delivers on that front as well. I greatly enjoy Mitsuhara's charming "giant klutz" vibes, and it is very satisfying to see how her past relates to what she is as a person. As she strides to become the person she wants to be, Funatsugi's curiosity and compassion supports her in her most trying times. And in turn she lends her strength, in many forms. It's a decidedly horny relationship as well, which adds a lot of intimacy, but it doesn't feel cheap or one-dimensional at all.
The cast of side characters are colorful and entertaining, the design of the characters themselves are pretty inspired, and the whole manga is drawn beautifully, with lots of detail and flair being put into it. The closest thing I have to a complaint is that I would love to see a deeper exploration of the side characters and certain aspects of the supernatural world. Still, I cannot recommend this enough. It's a manga that I will probably think about for years to come.

This is a pretty typical "sociable cute girl goes for the shy boy" story for the most part, and it's quite enjoyable. It definitely made an impression on me, more than I expected before reading it. It's a short, competently written love story that should give you a healthy dose of insulin for the week.
I like how well the manga sets up the main relationship, it's done in a snappy and effective manner pretty early on, which makes it easier to appreciate both of the main characters as, you know, actual characters. It's obviously hard to enjoy a romance story if you don't like the
...
characters or find them annoying, so this manga already passes that relatively low bar with flying colors. Also, there's a very good example of a "Chekhov's gun" trope that is tied to their relationship.
The manga keeps it pretty "grounded" for the most part, not much super silly shenanigans (although there's definitely fan service here and there), and it definitely helped the wholesome vibes of it all. I also like how intimate a lot of the scenes feel, the manga's art definitely get that feeling across.
There's a couple of slightly annoying romance tropes here and there but it's nothing too distracting. Aside from Sakurai's lovely parents, there's not too much happening outside of the main two characters but its par for the course for a manga with this length.

"A cute quickie" is how I would describe this manga in the simplest terms. The set up of the romance is quick and snappy, and the main characters are fleshed out quite well considering the manga's length. Their dynamic is very fun to see, I especially enjoy the "rowdy-cutie" vibe of Matsuri. The third wheel character does a okay job of adding some spice and comedy to the story, and I like her first chapter a lot, although that's kinda it. The drawings are quite nice overall, I particularly enjoyed one comedic moment that featured a parody of a iconic classic painting. The ending feels
...
a bit rushed to me, I wish that there's at least one extra chapter near the end. But that's not really a big deal to be honest, just read it in one sitting like I did and you'll be satisfied.

Insomniacs After School is almost as wonderful as the starry night skies its obsessed with. The way the anime steadily fleshes out its two main characters is very commendable, and its perfectly in sync with how they progress as lovers. Nakami's gloomy attitude is understandably unappealing at first, but Magari's bright and playful presence pushes him to come out of his shell and realize that there's a way to live a better life, and his interactions with the other characters only supports that. Meanwhile, Magari finds an outsider that she can truly rely on in Nakami, somebody that she can easily confide in. Its a
...
very lovely dynamic that only gets better as they open up with each other about the things that haunt them, the troubles they encounter in living their insomniac lives. It's heightened by the anime's beautiful art style and delicate directing, especially in regards with the more intimate scenes. The anime also manages to do well with the lighthearted comedic moments without breaking the grounded feel of the art style.
Outside of the main two characters, I can't say I liked all of the side characters, but I appreciate that they have just enough presence to make them feel worthwhile in the story, and not too much to distract the focus of the main relationship. I also enjoy the photography aspects of the story, it definitely feels like the creator is channeling their hobby through this story, and its done very well. That, and their love of cats.
I think some of the conflicts in the story felt a bit forced/cheap to me, and it kinda ended on a flat note, but its all so minor in the grand scheme of things. This is basically the anime equivalent of a kiss to the forehead from a loved one.

Psycho Busters is a pretty straightforward shonen manga that doesn't do anything special or outstanding, but there's enough enjoyment to be had in its entertaining cast of characters, and it serves quite well as a palate cleanser or a easygoing read. The action scenes are decent, its mostly fun to see how the main character reacts to whatever is happening. The story doesn't take itself too seriously, but many of its best moments are directly tied to how it shifts into a more serious tone. There's a solid love relationship between the main two characters that does it job as the heartwarming part of the
...
manga. Its nice to see the main cast of characters expand, as events transpire and allegiances shifts, giving way to most of the side characters showing a new side of themselves to us, although it does so in a quick, somewhat rushed way. The supernatural twist of the story is not too interesting. I don't quite like how it ends but its not exactly a bad ending, just a disappointing one.

I've read all of the manga, and I'm happy to say that they nailed the adaptation! It's clear to me that the studio knew what made the manga as good as it is, and the choices they made in this adaptation reflects that.
First off, this anime just feels so dreamy and calming in its presentation. The generally cool color tone of the art, the dramatic but tasteful flourishes of the soundtrack, the relatively slow pace of each scene; all of it combines perfectly. It somehow feels relaxing and cheerful at the same time. I also enjoy the occasional cutesy and comedic stylistic changes just as
...
much. It's a very pleasant experience overall.
Most of the anime focuses on the main two characters, Kubo and Shiraishi, interacting with each other, and they made it feel like these two are in their own world, which fits the story very well. Shiraishi's "invisible mob syndrome" makes him pretty much impossible to notice, except to Kubo. One could say that it's love born out of curiosity. It's lovely to see how Shiraishi grows to appreciate her presence, and also seeing Kubo's endearing approach to make him open up to her more.
The supporting cast is also great, but I'm just gonna mention one: I would be remissed if I don't talk about cute Shiraishi's little brother is. The anime portrays it to great lengths, which I adore.
I guess the closest thing that I got to a complaint is that it's structurally derivative and doesn't break new ground in the high school romcom niche. For me, it stands out because of the easygoing approach in telling its love story, and how it manages to be funny without being too wacky. In a lot of romcom anime, I feel like the romance can be overly cheesy, or overshadowed by silly comedic scenes. Not to mention fan service aspects souring the wholesomeness. This anime is certainly not like that, and its how I felt about the manga too. I really hope we get another season from the same studio.

Bruh, why the heck is this an extra episode?! The second half almost made me cry, easily my favorite part of the anime. It didn't really introduce new themes to the main story, but it does show a slightly new perspective to it that makes the whole thing much more impactful to me. I thought the main story is great but slightly undercooked in some areas, this episode made up for it with a very touching ending. I don't think I'll ever see zombies in the same way after this, it does make me feel slightly depressed just thinking about them.

I don't really know what to feel about this one. It does try to differentiate itself from other romcoms through its premise and some out-of-left-field story arcs, but I think these attempts mostly distracts from its romcom roots, rather than accentuate or synergize with it, mostly because they feel too serious and dramatic in a nonsensical way. These elements would have a larger presence as the story goes on, and I can't help but be not as invested in the story when they take over almost completely.
I also found that the supposed main relationship (it's very obvious which one it is) is the
...
least successful part of the story, and I would rather see many of the other characters' stories being given more screen time instead (Mifuyu-san especially comes to mind). One particular side story arc does stands out because how surprisingly impactful it is (Shinonome-san's story) and it's definitely my favorite segment of the anime.
I do think that for the most part the writing and VO performance is pretty entertaining, and many of the lighthearted moments are memorable. I like the main character being a sociable and likeable goof, it's always nice to root for somebody that's actually a decent human being. I respect the restraint of the writers for not making this feel like an unhinged harem fest. Once again, shout out to the Shinonome sisters, both are very fun to watch in their own ways and I can at least applaud the writers for choosing the right side characters to flesh out.
