Law of Ueki is a light action manga that is very easy and enjoyable to read.

Story : 7/10
Law of Ueki is about this seemingly dumb, clueless boy Ueki given with a power to turn trash into trees. Later on, he became a candidate to determine the next God and has to fight other candidates to win the talent of . The plot is very straightforward, the hero has power, meets stronger challenger, become stronger, defeat said challenger, cycle repeats. What makes this manga fun for me is the unravelling of each power level for Ueki, much like the shinigami in Bleach with their Shikai and ... Bankai. Also, each candidate has interesting powers (some very silly ones) and fighting styles, making the fight sequences interesting. However towards the end, the plot became super rushed and some fights aren't even drawn (lazy lazy). I just wish the mangaka took more time to develop the stories because there is so much potential.

Art : 8/10
The drawing style is very easy going and light, making it easy to flip through each pages. The manga actually reminds me of Zatch Bell kinda style. The only complaint is that he doesn't use a lot of screen tones in the fight sequences, so it's hard to understand what is going on. He also doesnt really invest in explaining how the attacks works etc. i like my fight sequences explained in details.

Characters : 8/10
Apart from the main characters, the side characters are really predictable. If you're super evil, you get defeated. If you're a good character turned evil, Ueki beats the crap out of you and you turn over a new leaf. Even the sidekicks are presented mostly for comic relief. However, I simply adore Ueki and Mori. They're funny and brave and resilient, Ueki especially. You just want a friend like Ueki.

Enjoyment : 10/10
Despite the many flaws, I really enjoyed Ueki. I actually watched the anime first, so reading thru it, I kinda already knew the story. But i still flipped thru all the pages happily because Ueki no Housoku is really fun to read. There are lots of comic reliefs (such as Ueki's absurd talents), Mori looking after Ueki, Kobasen with his bullying ways. It's the kind of story you'll read over and over again.

A fun read.

After reading so many manga, it is hard to find one that will capture you at first read. Shingeki no Kyojin is one of the manga that caught me by surprise and I definitely love reading this.

Story 10/10
Compared to other manga dealing with the supernatural, giants as the main villain is already a very interesting choice. Maybe because giants, even as portrayed in this manga, dont really have special powers; they are just big, very very hard to kill and not picky at eating people. The great thing about this manga is that everything seems very realistic, apart from the existence of the giants. The ... story is set in a apocalyptic type situation where the last human colony faces giant attack threats constantly. After decades of unsuccessful threats on the giants, the characters in this manga are struggling with fear and hopelessness, they are neither heroic nor optimistic.

Art 8/10
I enjoyed the mangaka's style, it's gritty and at times, messy, but it sets the manga apart from the rest. The characters all have different features, so it's easy to identify them. However, the best part would have to be the way the mangaka drew the giants. They are so horrible and evil and ughhh... It makes you absolutely terrified whenever you see a giant in any page. And the deaths of all the people eaten by the giants were well drawn. ugh. And the expressions of fear and desperation in the characters' faces, makes you feel so bad for them.

Character 9/10
I love that the characters in this manga are portrayed realistically. None of the characters have the illusions of being heroic or optimistic. In fact, each of them are selfish in their own ways. After reading many shounen manga where the villains just wont die, it's hard to believe that the heroes can still remain confident and courageous (bleach's kurosaki, dgray's walker). And in this manga, you can see that the characters are just real people with no special powers or weapons, tired of fighting and seeing deaths around them.

This manga caught me right from the start. Maybe I just really like the dark, desperate kind of mood that this manga brings (reminds me of early d.gray-man). The villains, the giants, and evil and crazy and horribly terrifying, The main characters are weak, terrified people just struggling to survive. Amazing read.

I would recommend this to everyone. It is really amazing.

I consider myself a great lover of manga and have read tons of them. However none have influenced me as strongly as Uzumaki.
The plot of the story starts rather subtly in a village with a man who is obsessed with spirals. As the pages turn, you become engrossed as the obsession with spirals spread towards the whole village. The way Junji Ito chose such everyday items and make it so scary is truly amazing. His drawing style is unique, where the drawings are light and simple in normal scenes, but horrifyingly realistic and disgusting in the horror scenes.
You know how when you read a book ... only to glimpse into the world that is in the book. When i read Uzumaki, however, the world inside the book seems to creep out from the pages right into my own life. Uzumaki is not a scary manga that makes you dont want to sleep at night. but it is a manga that will change you, even if it's just a little. The first time i read Uzumaki was 4 years ago, and by god i still get chills when i see a snail.
