Literal eye-candy.
The story doesn't go down the same spiral as most romance mangaka follow, no second-guessing, no secret lover, no hiding their feelings and restarting this bland romance cycle of mc and fmc doing activities to get closer to each other. This manga has great art, and conveys the emotion in the characters quite well, they also pull off symbolisms just right, and wont overexaggerate and/or make the scenes too cliché. Take for example: the confession scene, where they don't do a full on "confess under the fireworks of a night festival in summer break", and rather pull it off more non-chalant to make it
...
even more of an eye-candy for us to consume. You can say they manage to handle something very realistic which doesn't go into fantasy-land like some other romance manga do when handling romantic relationships.
The characters are so great. I just want them to start delivering more on what makes them "them" in their stories, like I try to predict how that one friend is always so aloof, or how that one friend learned self defence for his friends. Some characters in the story, really, really get their time to shine, like a girl who has difficulty being around boys and want to be with her friends (who are boys), but feels weighed down by her emotions of past trauma, so she shoves it all under a rug and stand a few steps behind the others. She wishes to verbally profess herself, but every time she will stutter and say "no, it's fine" while simultaneously feel guilt for lying to the people she is supposed to trust. She wants to become strong, so she imitates her childhood friend and takes on a stern, but fragile mask to shun away any difficulties on her way. She hates it all so much that she can only have eyes for her childhood friend who she contemplates to be her "hero" and "role model" in life, that she cannot fathom, or equalise herself with the fmc.
The story does have shortcomings like all stories, but the more you read, the less viable these become as you start to fill in all the gaps, and start feeling the story is more coherent.
9/10 so far, but there are shortcomings, I just have been thirsting for romance for a while and thought this was a great piece of manga. Also take note that this is supposedly the mangakas first work in the field of romance (at least) and is already doing better than most. This was just a quick little review I wanted to make because I saw some of the "not recommended" and thought I should give it justice like the many others who give this manga good praise! I really am enjoying just binge reading this manga, and it got me squealing like a little bitch some times at how good it is.
