Sigh. I love Hotaru No Yomeiri and I'm so happy it's getting an English release from viz soon.
To be honest if you're a fan of releationships that are super healthy right off the bat this probably isn't for you, which is okay. I can get why people would think Satoko and Shinpei's relationship is weird at best and straight up toxic at worst but imo this is a story about finding someone who will accept and love you no matter what. All Satoko's life she has been told that no one would ever want to marry her due to her illness but Shinpei loves
...
her regardless, while most people would be fearful and hate Shinpei because he works as an assassin Satoko still loves and wants to be with him no matter what.
I typically don't like yandere stories but I have been enjoying Hotaru No Yomeiri so far. There are some parts where I think Shinpei goes way too far with his "yandere-ness" or whatever (if you've read it you probably know what I'm talking about), but again a major part of this story is about how Shinpei is willing to change for Satoko. And while speaking about Satoko, she is probably one of my favorite female romance leads ever. She stands her ground and expresses that she is in fact not okay with some of the things Shinpei does, and will not marry Shinpei if he keeps his toxic behaviors.
Overall this story is very compelling and the characters along with their dynamics and themes are pretty bittersweet. If I could describe this manga in one word it would be bittersweet.
