I've never played the game but the anime is unbearable except maybe the animation which is at most decent. I really should've dropped it after ep8, like what I usually do for all the other bad animes. I thought it was going to improve later on because of all the "Luke is going to change you have to watch this" crap from the game fans. Let me start with the most annoying part which is all the characters seem to have acquired the ability to teleport. One minute they are in City A then the next minute they are City B, and they keep doing
...
this in every single episode. Now this wouldn't be too bad if they didn't give every city the same look and design, which leads to my next point,
who was in charge of the worldsetting?
I watched 18 episodes and I still don't understand a thing about how this world functions. I might not the smartest guy in the world but my recollection is that the only time they actually attempted to explain the world is at the beginning of the first episode during which they said something about tune and musci and all that. After that it's all jargons. The consequence is that I have no idea what the group is doing in any of their missions, for example why did Akzeriuth sink when Luke started resonating in front of that shrine, and for that matter, what is that shrine? I know I probably can figure everything out by reading every single line for twenty times but if I do that why would I want to watch animes in the first place then?
So basically I gave up on the plot later on in the show. Unfortunately the character are not so interesting either, including Luke. Ok he changed, so what? Character change has nothing to do with how well developed this guy is. Basically he changed from a spoiled brat to a good guy, big deal. The rest of the cast are just boring. The only purpose they serve in this anime is to say the lines and introduce new missions so that the plot can move forward. What I don't get is even the battles are boring. And we are talking about Sunrise here which is one of the most funded, if not the most, studio in Japan. Even Bleach the animation has more exciting battles that ToA. I think the main problem is that the game is a big success so they think they can make a good anime out of it by just borrowing everything from the game without putting any efforts in. It just doesn't work that way.
Really a waste of time, don't watch it.

The first Biohazard movie done in 3D. I'm not terribly impressed by the animation but it's still well done. I didn't really feel anything from the characters though. I thought Leon and Claire were the couple, especially when she mentioned her boyfriend in the start of the movie. Turns out they paired Leon with the cop in the end. Just didn't feel right about that. The backstory of the cop and her brother seemed a little bit forced too. It's hard for me to imagine that someone would turn himselve into a monster just to reveal a government conspiracy. I also think that the story
...
would be better if everything happened in one place instead of going from the airport to the research center, for example just focus on how they get out of the airport. I actually did feel the horror elements in the airport section but not in the research center. Overall it's a decent movie but many areas could've been improved.

In a lot of ways, Gaiking feels like Eureka Seven. Boy meets girl, big mecha, boy boards a big ship, girl has mysterious power, etc., except to compare Gaiking to E7 is simply an insult to the latter one. But let's do some comparisons anyways:
Theme
E7: communication leads to understanding, understanding leads to trust.
Gaiking: kill monsters
Plot
E7: finding out the mysteries surrounding the Corallians
Gaiking: kill monsters
...
Characters
Eureka VS Lulu: Eureka was inspired by Rei from EVA but with genuine character development and actual feelings, the two things make her such a great character (she also has some steels in her!). Lulu likes Daiya, that's it.
Renton VS Daiya: Renton is the most realistic shounen character I've seen. Not only does he receive such a huge amount of development throughout the show, but a lot of things he does, even though making 100% sense, are not entirely right or entirely wrong. Daiya is a good person too. He likes to help out people, he likes to fight off monsters, he works hard, but in terms of a character, he lacks depth.
Mecha Design
Sleek post-EVA-ish mecha VS what looks like when someone took a dump
Animation
Not even a fair comparison between the two.
My final comment is that Gaiking is not worth investing your time in.

Le Chevalier D'Eon is the best anime I've seen and is the only one that I consider to be perfect in every aspect.
Theme
The theme is just great. It basically tries to discuss what is considered to be true loyalty: should you only be loyal to your king, or should you also be loyal to your country, or maybe even to your own conscience? The best part is how they delivered this great theme. The writers didn't give out their interpretation right away. Instead, using almost every character, even the king himself, the show offers a variety of different interpretations of loyalty, and let the
...
viewers decide which one is the true loyalty. It really shows that the writers do have a deep understanding of what they are trying to deliver.
Plot
The plot rivals that of A Prayer for Owen Meanie which is my favourite novel. It has some religious elements but never relies on them too much. It has a lot of government conspiracies and political conflicts but never forgets asking questions toward its theme. It tries to discuss a more or less philosophical question but the plot is full of twists and never becomes dull. The story also takes the viewers to different countries in Europe at that time which is very interesting to watch, especially to a person who has little knowledge in European history such as myself.
Characters
Simply perfect. They really did a great job developing the male lead who initally holds a strong sense of loyalty to his king but starts to question it as the story progresses. All the side characters are great too. All of them have some great backstories and none of them are truly good or evil. I think the best part is that most of them do actually have an air of true knight and noble chiasma, something you rarely see these days.
Music
The OP, ED, and BGM are all great.
Animation
You may be disappointed if you are looking for any basketball-sized eyes. Instead, this artists followed a more realistc style throughout the show, and I absolutely love it. The animation is gorgeous, especially in the combat scenes and the breathtaking background design.
I strongly recommend this show to anyone who is sick and tired of all the shounen crap these days. Not only does it let you really think about life, but it may also give you some pointers on writing.

A very unique series but somehow lost its spark in the second half. It's hard to summarize Kaiba into one sentence but it basically tells a tale about one guy trying to retrieve his memories. The first six or seven episodes revolves around him travelling to different planets and meeting different people, all of them are affected by the memory-transfer technology. The concept is nothing original, neither are the plot nor the characters. But the amazing artstyle and the superb director make the first half of Kaiba exceptionally enjoyable. Watch the first episode and you'll know what I'm talking about. I have not seen such
...
a gorgeous artstyle in years. Absolutely a visual feast. The use of color schemes and camera angles are beyond professional. More importantly, they created a unique AND believable universe which is lacked in most animes.
The main plot kicks in during the second half, where more of this guy's past is revealed. I'm not sure why but the story suddently becomes less interesting. There are no big plot holes but it does seem inconsistent at times. I think the problem lies in the fact that Kaiba has a superb director but not-so-superb writers, and when they shifts the story from style-driven to character-driven, it just fails miserably. The writers don't know how to set up a conflict, they don't know how to advance the plot, they don't know how to use foreshadowing properly. Worst of all, they don't know how to reveal plot twists. They actually did that by letting the cyborg dude preaching to the female lead. The final relevation is also a "meh" for me.
Anyways watch Kaiba for its visual style but don't expect much from the story.

As one blogger wrote, "Dragonaut should be called a classic of bad anime for our own time". This particular blogger acually had the iron will to finish the series whereas I on the other hand HAD to drop it after ep8, and for that he has my respect. The matter of fact is just writing this review brings back the back memories and horrors. There are many things wrong with this series but I'll just list a few:
1. I know today's anime community is filled with otakus but the boob size is just bizzare.
2. Love on first sight is probably the most romantic thing on
...
this planet, at least according to some people, but when Jin is willing to sacrifice himself for someone who killed his parents and whom he never even met, one has to wonder whether it was really love or is he just dying for sex.
3. Watch Dragonaut and take the wildest ride in your life. First you stay on earth and develop a crush on a dragon, then you FLY TO THE MOOOOOON....to take a bath with the dragon. On your way back to earth, the GONZO staff will help you learn the difference between fake dragons and real dragons. Then you drop the series.

I'll keep this review short because Neo Angelique Abyss is one of the worst animes I have watched. The animation looks like it's made from the 60s. The music is also average. The worst part is the plot and the characters. When the plot is about one girl living with four guys in the same house and fighting off tentacle monsters but at the same time it's NOT a hentai, you know the series is terrible. That wouldn't be too bad if the writers didn't push their limits to destroy the show even more by making not one but all the characters as annoying as
...
possible. I won't go into details except all the guys act like girls and the only girl acts like the B-word. Angelique will be perfect choice if you want to experience a truly terrible anime. Otherwise stay away from it.

DTB reminds me a lot of Witch Hunter Robin. Both series feature people with supernatural abilities except in DTB they are called Contractors, and both are boring. The premise is boring enough. How many times do we have to see people with superpowers? But the biggest problem lies in the writing by trying to do too many things. A good writer hits two birds with one stone, a bad writer wants to hit ten birds with one stone and misses all of them. The series tries to show the lives of different contractors and how their Contracts affect them, at the same time it also
...
wants to blend in some government conspiracy. Hei's background and storyline (if he actually has any) also attempts to reflect a serious theme, that is don't hesitate in what you believe in.
The result? The series turns into a mess and fails to deliver any of them. A lot of times it even gives me this feeling that DTB is more about style than substance. I wasn't able to feel anything for most of the contractors. In the end my only conclusion about their lives is that contractors have feelings and that's it. The government conspiracy isn't very believable either. Hei's serious theme is just jokes because the only times I got to know his character are episode 1 when he said "I hate Contractors" and the final relevation in the last episode when I finally understood why he hates contractors.
DTB has other issues too. It features these two detectives that serve no purposes to the story and are very very annoying. The music is at most decent and the two OPs are just average, although I do like ED2 by High and Mighty. The animation is good but nothing outstanding. I would only recommend DTB for its atmosphere if you are majoring in animation.
PS Almost forgot. It also has some big plotholes like how did the contractors got their contracts and wth is the Hell's gate etc.

I'll keep this review short since there is nothing much to talk about VK anyways. It's one of those shows that I'm not sure if it deserves a 6 or 7 (I give it a 7 just trying to be nice). The main problem I have with this show can be summarized into one sentence, that is, a character-driven story with not-so-good characters. Some argue that VK has done a great job at portraying the characters' emotional struggles and conflicts. I somewhat agree. I would agree more if "struggles and conflicts" were replaced with "teenage angst and emo-ness", and if "great" were never used. It's
...
not like I don't believe why Zero wants to die so much, but the writer shouldn't spend every single second talking about that. Also I saw zero progression in the main characters and their love-triangle relationship. Frankly speaking, I think the writer is going to keep it like that until the last chapter (I'm reading a little bit of the manga myself too). It's a good way to attract teen readers because it's going to keep them guessing whom Yuki will end up with, with the help from traditional yuri-artstyle. The drawback, on the other hand, is that it makes the story pretty much pointless. But I think the most important question is whether I'm going to watch the second season? Yes I am. Am I going to recommend it to anyone? Of course not (unless that person is a fangirl).

I respect the opinions of all the people who find this show interesting. After all, people are allowed to have different opinions. However, I find it hard to understand when someone claims to hate Naruto yet at the same time loves Soul Eater. Sure, Soul Eater is not as a huge rip-off of Naruto as Nabari is, but it still incorporates many elements that make Naruto unwatchable in the first place. My point is, don't let Naruto-bashing become a trend. It's not like you have to hate Naruto just because a lot of people on the forums dislike it.
As mentioned previously, I find this show
...
unwatchable. Not only does it have nothing interesting to keep me watching, this show has as many annoying elements as Naruto ever had. The voice acting is one of the worst, especially Maka's voice. The director probably thinks that a bland voice might sound cute to the audiences, and I agree with that. However, there is a difference between being bland and being emotionless. A good bland voice acting that's still cute is found in Akazukin Chacha, a classic comedy anime. Maka's voice, on the other hand, feels as if the seiyu has not received any formal traning and just reads the words off the script.
The plot lacks depth and the worldsetting is not as original as the fans claim. A world of Shinigami has been done thousands of times already so why starts a new one? The biggest problem is the characterization however. The number of annoying characters even exceeds that in Naruto, not to mention all of them have no depth whatsoever. Black Star has this huge ego that stems from nowhere, Kid has mental problems for sure, Maka's dad makes me feel sick with his overexaggerated emotions, and Shinigami is...well, he is just weird. I can go on for pages but you get my point. After 13 episodes, I just can't stand these annoying brats anymore, that's when I decided to drop it.
