This was a very anticipated series and although I wasn't one to hold my breath on the promise of the show, I was hooked by the very premise. You had a ufology guy meet a psychic woman and "bingo" you would have an awesome show.
Unfortunately it wouldn't turn out that way. Granted there were many scenes that were interesting but this was not because of the main theme of the show (paranormalia) but rather they were generated by the interesting sociological situations and the interplay between the characters - which is any anime´s mainstay. You would be better off watching a romcom rather than a
...
show that was supposed to be about UFO:s and ghosts.
Instead we are fed tropes within the ufology field and the same old ghost tunnel that we have seen in Mob Psycho 100. If not that we are fed implausible and laughable manifestations of giant sumo´s that makes stone domes for no good reason, or dancing mannequin ghosts that use their hairs as tentacles and weapons. Why am I not surprised. The level of depth to the paranormal feels as if you were supposed to see dolphins at the aquarium but instead of actually going there you stop 500 meters outside of the aquarium and look through your car seat with binoculars through the tiny windows in the distant of the aquarium to try to see them. Not to mention the myriad of other fishes and aquatic animals should you have been able to see if you actually went or even could have gone swimming with the dolphins. I was powerfully underwhelmed.
But then again, as a paranormalia nerd comparing Japanese anime studios attempts at paranormalia when one has read "The Transylvanian series" by Radu Cinamar, "A gift from the stars" from Elena Danaan or "Ceres Colony Cavalier" by Tony Rodrigues. Or listened to testimonies about the Montauk Project, is striking a hard bargain... It only makes sense that it cant compare. I guess I will forfeit my fantasies to plain fantasy and Isekai from here on out.
