Story wise this movie is pretty dumb. The characters, who are detectives and fight evil crime lords, hope to win with the power of friendship and feel betrayed when the villains behave like villains. The voices really got into my nerves, it's just too annoying and high pitched for everyone, the joker was specially annoying with his moaning. To me, it seems like whoever make this really loved batman's concept and watched him as a kid, but didin't revisit his source material as an adult and wrote something that an 8 year old would find badass or whatever. Like, reaally, batman who watched his parents
...
die and punishes himself fighting criminals will gat depressed and talk to himself over not winning one battle? The joker escapes all the time, he's used to it!! He probably even enjoys it! Him throwing his mask into the sunset has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen batman do.
Oh, also, wtf are women's bodies in this? As a comic book enjoyer I am used to girls not having ribs or a back in the male designer's head but the bust in this movie was too much for me. I has so hyped to see harley and cat woman as ninjas but all I got was jiggly animations who will make me have an anneurism.
Anyways, if you ignore the plot, the lack of character consistency and the ugly ass female anatomy, I see that it is possible to enjoy it if you focus on visuals. The movie is beautiful and visually inspired by japanease culture. It is made with detailed care in many aspects, being very fascinating. The backgrounds and changes made the story more emmersive. The sole problem is based on the plot.

The characters are lovely. Even if the actual plot makes no sense, the shooting makes no sense and the concept is a little weak the slice-of-life style and knowing the writers didin't take themselves too seriously writting it makes it valuable imo. The problem with most recent anime is they are overly confident in their plot and think that if they make things pretty enough there will be no consequences. This one, whowever, seems to just try to make something cute and enjoyable.
It is not a WOW THIS IS THE BEST THING I'VE EVER WATCHED but seeing pretty people do absurd super human things is
...
something anyone can enjoy once in a while, you know? Their interactions are sweet and they speak kindly to each other. The adventures and freedom of the anime are really pleasant to see and, even if it gets a little tiring watching cute stuff without consistency, I think it carries a simple yet sweet message.
If you want to watch something enjoyable to turn your brain off, it is a great recommendation but if you're looking for plot and crytical thinking, this is not for you!

This anime builds up to nothing. The first episode narrates two fans of an idol; a doctor and a little girl. The doctor has weird fucking pedophilic tendecies and the child is just, you know, a normal idol obsessed 12 year old. They reincarnate as this idol's children, with a lot of building of personalities and love in the moments previous to their deaths.
Okay, so... we assume these facts will be relevant on the next episodes, right?
No. Not really. In fact, the anime would be a thousand times better if Ai Hoshino instead of being the teen mom of the protagonist was the protagonist herself.
...
If Aqua and Ruby were to still be the MC's, Ai would be a nice motivator for them to pursue artistic careers as a friend and mentour, keeping her idol dillemas, with Aqua keeping his crush on Hoshino.
The whole incestuous mom thing isn't erased because of the reincarnation plot despite of what the writers think. The characters keep their pre-reincarnation persoalities and capabilities, even motivations, but their life story has NO RELEVANCE throught the anime. Again, if they weren't Ai's children the situation would be wayy better.
Deconsidering the first episode, the charaters are built in shallow ways and jump to absurd conclusions out of nowere. For instance, Aqua sees his mother be killed and out of NOWERE concludes that his dad - who did not kill her directly - is involved and guilty. Another example of this weird lack of emotional depht: Akane is saved from suicide (forcefully!!) and is MAGICALLY BETTER AFTER. All her pain was just gone after the failed attempt without a shadow of an explanation. She doesn't feel upset for very long because, you know, she was kept from doing somthing would relieve her pain in her mentally ill mind. She just falls in love with Aqua and voila! everything is fixed guys! She will now behave as his DEAD MOTHER to conquer his heart. So cute and not disturbing at all!
The whole anime just tries to make Aqua look good but he has essentialy no personality besides loving Ai (his mom) or being smart/fake. I won't watch another season because the only actual nice thing about this is the art (the music is good as well, I suppose). The characters are not well buit and the world building is even worse.
Many better source materials get god-awful animations and this anime is just pretty eyes with no story to show for it. Biggest disapointment of the season tbh. I will TRY to finish it but omfg.
Edit: Also, I must add that Akane just deduces that Ai was pregnant as teenager because of her body changes???? Wtf man
On episode 9 I enjoyed MEM's story because it is the only lore in which writers don't overestimate their writting capability and make an interesting, yet simples character. Aqua and that red haired girl are annoying as shit, I can't stand their loving back and forth anymore ( ・ั﹏・ั)

Too much fanservice. The characters are beautiful!! I lovr the voice acting as well but Rebecca is used as a sex tool most of the time. Her character could be developed deeply but half of the episode's time is wasted on friendship talk and weird body distorcions. I usually ignore thay sort of stuff but this is just too much to handle!
Either way I really enjoyed the storylines. They're silly, sure, but that's the genre's concept. Besides, the characters are enjoyable and when they fall into a cliche they have more than that to themselves. Nice show.
I love how Homura was developed. I hope the
...
others are as well because even though they are steriotypical (and according to other reviews recycled) I really enjoy seeing them grow and become friends.
The overuse of the word friends seems to be an issue to other commenters as well but I expected that since ghe genre needs this trope to keep going. Didnt mind. Very enjoyable and accessible anime, for being on Netflix.
Ah, another complain I have is the existance of a narrator. It makes the writer look insecure since he's always putting someone in to say HEY! DID YOU GET IT? THIS IS HAPPENING! like your cousin making you watch canine patrol yk so that's a weak narrative resource that I didn't really like.

No history, just a bunch of "scary" setups that lead nowhere. Best premisse is the tunnel one, I got a bit interested in it, but the rest is apalling. Even Tomie's episode sucks. Wtf.
The art is enjoyable, but every character looks the exact same. Same skin tone and body build. Sometimes there are overweight ones but even so theyre all equal. The 3D is terrible, the ice cream episode was laughable.
Didnt enjoy anything, watched out of pure masochism. I understand the concept and stuff but man, Netflix just ruins everything. I dont know if the manga is also this bad.
Ah, 1st story on ep 8
...
is nice. I enjoyed it, caught my attention. There was a beggining, a middle and an ending, things the other episodes lacked. I suppose this and the weird humor are the main problems with the anime.

ENGLISH REVIEW:
I really liked the manga. I cried with those motionless drawings that came to life in my head, feeling as if I, too, were Yaguchi. I understood how he felt and how the people arround him felt. I loved everything about this universe that happened to be similar to mine.
Therefore, I reccomended the anime to my 11 year old little sister. She was enchanted enough to start learning actuall drawing techniques and not just rely on raw talent.
It's beautiful to see this kind of repercussion in someone. To feel this and watch it be felt as well.
The anime represents art to me.
Despite my subjectivy,
...
I will critique it accordingly.
STORY - 10
Well built, I believe there's no plot holes and Yatora being the protagonist didn't particularly influence his entranc, althought his art progress is unreachable to an average person, I can buy that he progressed fast for working hard. Not much to comment about it.
ART - 8
Now, I don't mean any harm by this, but for an anime about art, I believe he failed on inovating plataform wise (frame composition and generally bringing anything new to the table). The anime's plot is entirely about art, composition, techniques, ways of making yourself be a highlight (etc.) but when needed to show this for viewes in the own artist's hands, it lets people down.
For instance, Kimetsu no Yaiba is a shoujo with cgi usage (even though a bit primitive at the beggining) that inovates and has perceptive characteristics with an unique stlyle and makes average fights look really cool.
Blue period had a lot of potential in this lane, but the potential wasn't used at all. It didn't let me down, but i feel like there's space for improving.
SOUND - 9
No comment. It's a good sound track.
CHARACTER - 10
The caracter development is ashtonizing. There's an ample frame of realities being shown, from Yuka's complex problems to Yatora's relatively common ones. We are capable of easily understanding a character's motivation in a realistic way.
Having trans and lgbt+ characters as a whole is important, considering art has been both an scape goat and a place to showcase pain. From Dorian Gray to Leonardo da Vinci, we obseve queer people finding their space in art. Yuka resisting normality and trying to reach her most autentic self is inspiring and reminds me of people important to me.
Yatora wanting to please his friends whilist continuing a hobbie that became fundamental to his psique is incredible; seeing someone so cetic letting himself be vulnerable is very inspiring as well.
ENJOYMENT - 10
I don't have to comment, do I? lol
OVERALL - 10
Despite some things not reaching my expectations, I believe it to be a masterpiece. A masterpiece should evoke emption and change your perspective of mundane things. Blue Period has dome this for me - threrfore - I consider it a masterpiece.
