Realistic, supernatural anime that deal with love in all its different forms. In addition, there are striking similarities between the main protagonists and their respective relationships with their families and their primary love interests. Bokura wa Minna Kawai-sou
add

Realistic slice-of-life anime with plenty of comedy. HanaIro and Kawaisou both feature the main character moving into an inn/dorm with the intention of reinventing themselves. For Ohana, this means getting used to the work at the inn and proving that she is competent to her coworkers and her grandmother. For Usa, this means getting a girlfriend - specifically, getting closer to the antisocial book-loving girl who lives in the same building. Their stories feature moments of success but also plenty of setbacks as the other colorful characters generally do their best to make things difficult.

add

Where Madoka features Magical Girls, Haibane Renmei feature the Haibane or Charcoal Feathers. These two series explore some of the more intricate parts of human nature through a fantasy setting, and the general development of their plots are very similar. Worlds that at first seem to be utopic suggest more melancholic truths, while cute and likable characters deal with heavy existential questions and are forced to make difficult choices.

So Ra No Wo To
add

Railgun and Sora no Woto are anime that take the standard slice-of-life format and seamlessly add drama and action. For both series, while the pacing and some of the more filler-esque moments suggest that the focus is on cute girls doing cute things, the plot steadily builds towards a relatively meaningful conclusion. Railgun is shinier with more action and high-energy comedy, while Sora no Woto has a more bittersweet atmosphere and slower pacing. Both will satisfy any cravings for slice-for-life anime featuring cute girls - so long as you don't mind that those girls face significant challenges and undergo plenty of character development as well.

Plot and setting are fairly different, but there are some notable character similarities. Ryuuko is an honest version of Minori. Meme is Yasuko. Maekawa gives off the same impression as Sumire and acts similarly to Ami. Both series focus on the characters, although Denpa tends towards harem while Toradora! is romance.

Similar comedy, artistic style, and characters. Haganai is a bit more random and toned-down overall in terms of excitement, while OniAi is more exaggerated and focuses almost exlusively on the romance/harem aspect. Both involve plenty of fanservice (just watch their OPs to get a sense of it).

Comedy and fanservice based around brother-sister incest. OniAi takes a more harem-oriented approach while KissxSis focuses much more on the sisters. Both are based on the premise of the sister(s) lusting after the brother, with the brother resisting with varying degrees of success. Both also feature an older girl (teacher, editor) who tries to correct what she sees as deviant behavior, also with varying degrees of success.

Brother-sister incest is the topic of both titles, although OreImo takes a more calm and quasi-serious approach while OniAi is almost exclusively comedy and fanservice. Both involve the pressing question of whether fiction is indeed separate from reality (Kirino's eroge and Akito's novels). Both also feature other girls who, together with the younger sister, form some degree of a harem. Kirino and Akiko are also similar in their iconic perverted-ness.

The landscapes, the pacing, the atmosphere... High school students building a large pilotable machine on their own... Overarching sci-fi and supernatural themes... Plot focused on strange phenomena with conspiracy in the background... ...With personal relationships in the foreground. Robotics;Notes just feels a lot like a Makoto Shinkai film in TV series form. There's also the similarities with Cosmonaut (5 Centimeters per Second): Tanegashima, rockets, scooters.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume

Both are slice-of-life/comedy series set in a restaurant. Apart from the similar settings, the characters and the humor are also somewhat similar (notably, Chizuru and Yachiyo, Ika Musume and Yamada, running gags involving damaging property, questionable obsessions). Working!! is a bit more mature overall, although both are highly accessible and enjoyable.

Working!!

For starters, exclamation points. Both series are romance/comedy series, with Toradora! falling more towards the romantic side while Working!! focuses more on the slice-of-life comedy. The main characters are extremely similar, having to do housework for an otherwise dysfunctional family made most obvious by their drunk vixen of a mother/older sister. Both involve a diverse cast of both male and female members, with some of those characters corresponding to those in the other series somewhat well (Taiga/Minori are shuffled versions of Poplar/Mahiru, Kitamura has elements of both Souma and Satou, Yamada is like a mini-Ami, etc.). Ultimately though, both are simply good examples of the rom-com genre done right.

Mayo Chiki!

They have exclamation points in their titles. Also, they have exactly inverted situations with the main male and female characters. In Working!!, it's an androphobic girl and a guy with crossdressing-related issues. In Mayo Chiki!, it's a gynophobic guy and a girl with... crossdressing-related issues. Both are slice-of-life/romance/comedy series where the characters and the humor are at least slightly absurd. Mayo Chiki! is a lot more ecchi and somewhat more cliche, while Working!! is a little more self-aware. Both are highly recommended, and you should especially give them a try if you aren't too sure based simply on their synopses.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate
add

The male protagonist solves the issues of five main heroines one by one and ends up with one of them. Similar school and club setup, in fact, there aren't many differences in terms of story and development beyond slightly differing settings. KoiChoco is set in a huge student-run school with an absurdly powerful student council being the driving force for plenty of politics and everything sinister associated. Clannad is set in a more standard high school / suburban town, but throws in supernatural and existential elements. There are a lot of similarities in the scenarios that exist in each series, since real life only gives so many ways of making that emotional impact happen. From childhood friends with past events that haunt them to sister-love-competition dynamics to accidents which lead to comas, it's all very much the same. Ultimately though, both anime are pulled through by their solid execution of their premises (as well as an interesting and likeable cast), and they are both very much worth a watch.

Koi to Senkyo to Chocolate
add

School-based romance anime that go (for the most part) beyond cliches into more interesting territory. For KoiChoco, it's the unique setting and eccentric secondary cast, as well as the ever-present backdrop of political intrigue. For Toradora!, it's a fairly realistic and convincing development of the main cast, which is comprised of likeable characters with strong personalities. Both anime are harem-ish, but are tasteful enough to avoid the stereotypically negative connotations of having a story centered around one guy and many girls. In particular, both include a strong (and very similar) relationship between two of the main heroines. I highly recommend both titles as they are a fresh take on a fairly stale genre.

C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control
add

Main characters are very similar, especially in their initial indecisiveness and the development of their relationship with the female lead. Overall, Assets = Servants, Entres = Masters, Holy Grail War battles = Financial District deals. The set-up is also very similar with the relationship between the protagonist and the antagonist with the main villain or anti-hero giving the hero his reason to fight. Also, both series eschew black-and-white morality for a more complicated battle between parties who each have reasonable and nuanced motivations and values.

Sword Art Online

Similar with the alternate / separate worlds and with the characters involved in the secondary world being coerced or forced into it. While inter-character conflict is the main focus from episode to episode, the over-arching theme is one of surviving within and fighting against the reality that they have found themselves a part of.

Kokoro Connect
add

A group of friends, consisting primarily of 2 guys and multiple girls, deal with strange phenomena. In Kokoro Connect it's supernatural effects that start with personality-swapping. In Steins;Gate it's standard science fiction fare with teleportation/time travel. Both are darker and more serious than they first seem. Both are more character-driven than plot-driven. Both are excellent anime that put their own spin on their respective genres (slice-of-life, science fiction).

Hyouka
add

They both start on a K-ON artwork + slice-of-life framework, but develop their premise in an inspired and convincing fashion on top of it. Both have elements of mystery and drama and are heavily character-driven. Hyouka is somewhat more episodic and self-contained with different cases to be solved in each episode/arc. Kokoro Connect has more of a single thread of plot, although it's still very slice-of-life in that, while each episode leads to the next in an interconnected fashion, there's not much going on externally. For both, much of what happens is internal - within and between the characters.
