Man, this anime sure was bad, not the worst one I've seen in my life (which is big order), but it definitely is one of the most confusing and disgusting ones that I've seen.
I'll probably read the manga to see how awful of an adaptation this is. Since having 3-5 minutes to adapt the entire manga is going to turn into an awful adaptation (they should've either go for a movie adaptation or keep insisting on having 12 episodes).
But even then, having to read the manga to even understand the plot of it doesn't excuse the bad adaptation. Since the adaptation should at least be
...
good on it's own merits and have the same explanation as in the manga.
The bare minimum of a plot that i got from this the following:
The sister becomes infected by the pupa virus, which seems to turn people into monsters due to an infected puppy and some red butterflies, but then it turns out that she was actually a monster from the very beginning, which is a very stupid twist and a serious plothole. Then the brother becomes infected because the sister ate him and for some reason the virus got into him even if the rest of the people who got eaten by her didn't have the virus.
Maybe it was because the scientists tried to help the brother with a drug, but that doesn't give a good explanation of it.
And thus in order to protect her sister and because he didn't want her to eat more innocent civilians he becomes food for her.
Then a lot of filler happens (onii-chan no niku or her eating her brother, the worst filler they could've ever put and could've adapted more stuff in it) then another medical corporation kidnaps both of them and they decide to experiment on the brother by removing parts of his body, then he kills them and him and her sister reunite, go back to school and he still let's the sister to eat him instead of finding out the purpose of the virus or if they even care to go back to normal. And instead of ending there they just add another filler episode of him winning a prize.
That's a very shitty plot if you ask me. And if we add the scenes of cannibalism "incest" (which was not pleasant to look at all), the filler episodes and the fact that most of the things aren't explained properly, then we have one of the worst animes of all time.
The only good thing I can say about it is that this can serve as an example as to how not to adapt a manga .
