The color design change from the 2021 trailer to what we have now is the biggest blow to TYBW. The 2021 trailer has over 400k likes, and it's just a bunch of still shots. I think what blew people's minds in that trailer was the awesome Akudama Drive style color design, not the animation. Pierrot changed the color design for the anime, so now we have a boring, lifeless color design that doesn't fit Bleach at all. The 2021 trailer color design made every frame look majestic whereas the anime color design makes every frame look so ugly even though the drawings are the same.
...
Do you see any gifs and edits of the anime online? Most of the TYBW edits I see on YouTube are from the 2021 trailer and the colored manga, because those two things retain the Bleach aesthetic. I rarely see any edits that use shots from the anime. The 2021 trailer color design looked next-gen to me. It felt like a modern take on the old series' color design. Each TYBW episodes would've hit 10 times more if the color design was the same as 2021 trailer.
About the script. Masaki Hiramatsu, the script writer for TYBW, is a newcomer to Bleach. He has no experience. He did not write a single episode of Bleach in the old series. I think the reason why the TYBW episodes feel so strange to watch is because Masaki Hiramatsu doesn't understand Bleach. The additions he makes are very few and the omissions from the manga are strange, sometimes he keeps the comedic scenes, sometimes he removes them. The staff promised no censorship, but they removed the Rukia Peach scene, but added a random Hollow Peach scene. They censored Rangiku's scene when she meets Isshin, but kept all the disgusting stuff Giselle does. The writing lacks theme. It has no flow, no consistency. Some villains were only there for 1 episode like episode 19 - As Nodt, episode 20 - Gremmy, episode 23 - PePe, but some villains were there for multiple episodes like Mask. There were no Omake segments for any of the episodes, but they add an Omake segment in the last episode, wasting 4 minutes that could have been used to better pace the fights in the previous episodes. Masaki Hiramatsu adapted 10 chapters in episode 20, but then wasted 4 minutes in the last episode. All this mess could have been avoided if Pierrot had hired an experienced script writer. If Pierrot had hired Mr. Kento Shimoyama, who wrote the Reigai arc and the Fullbring arc in the old series, I think the pacing of the TYBW episodes would have been much better, even if the total number of episodes was still 52. Mr. Kento Shimoyama would have paced the episodes properly because he has experience in writing Bleach episodes since he worked on the old series, and he would have made better changes from the manga because he understands Bleach, unlike Masaki Hiramatsu.
To wrap up, Masaki Hiramatsu's amateur script writing and the color design change from the 2021 trailer has ruined this adaptation for me. I will still watch Cour 3 and Cour 4 but I will always feel sad because this thing could've been 10 times more hype if it had a different staff for script writing and color design was the same as the 2021 trailer.
