They have a great plotline and keep you interested. (not to mention they both include really buff people) The characters have their own cool stories which add to the uniqueness of these two animes when compared to a handful of other animes.

If you liked Clannad: After Story add

...then you might like Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou add

Both revolve around that family aspect and is a great movie to watch for a good cry. A big difference is the setting though since this movie is more fantasy. NOTICE: the first time I watched it was slow in the beginning but it gets better and the ending left me with a happy yet bittersweet and lonely feeling.
