So, this is my take on Shikimori not just a cutie.
I think this anime is getting too much hate even though it's having a slow start and people obviously having too less time to follow just one anime. And to be honest I understand why one will stop watching this after it's starting 3-4 episodes. BECAUSE IT'S REALLY BLAND AND BORING.

But...
If you were to dig a little bit deeper into animes in general, a lot of anime like stiens;gate and everyones fav gintama, they had a lot slower start than this show. Bear in mind, I'm not saying this show is better or anything (and ... I personally adore gintama more than anything), I'm just saying this one takes time to polish what it's been building. It's not engaging in the start what so ever. But damn this goes mature. I cannot force you to watch this show, I mean obviously, duh! But hey it'll be worth it if you actually liked it after processing what harm will it do.
Anyways to sell what I've written I'll start my review, which I don't do normally but this one had too much hate so, yeahh...

Story:
In my opinion, the start is bland, yes it had its moments and all to show how cool is shikimori by creating random events and damn she's strong. Judging by the opening song, she's a fighter from her childhood (just start with the backstory, goddamn it, it's ep 8 already).
So when I say it gets better, by that I mean, while this subtle cliche still remains, it is far less than the first 4 episodes, hell, bit of a spoiler about the arcs but after the 'summer vacations' it's really better. It's an 8 here, if it weren't for the starting epsiodes, it would have been a 9 maybe.

Art (animation):
Holy shit the animation, it's top tier, Doga Kobo, pulling it's big guns on this. The opening song is good, but the animation is a masterpiece, it always gives me chills. The Ending is artistic and cute, I like it. The actual animation however, could have been improved in my opinion. But it certainly gets the job done, with major events having beautiful animation, like if it weren't digging for Shikimori character already, her acting (voice and animation) would have gotten me. It's a 9 here.

Art (characters and background):
Obviously the character designs are orinally from the creator itself, but I have a love and hate relationship here. While making a few artistic touches here and there with the colour of hair, with almost every important character to stand them out of the crowd, the side characters are generic as hell, like I would have easily figured out which one is which here lmao.
But these are just minor things, you adapt with it the more you watch it. And now I couldn't care less however they are drawn, although, my major problem was with the character nekozaki, her hair. JUST WHY?
Anyways, onto the next thing that is the backgrounds, and I have nothing to shit about here, they Te just good, as most of my focus was on the characters.
This is a 8 too.

Sound:
Nothing special, I think the opening and ending songs are definitely good. I'm personally not a very big fan, But I understand why someone would like them.
Voice acting is okay too, similar to the animation the main bitd have alot more focus, characters who are supposed to sound cool are cool, and those who are laid back sounds laid back. 8 cuz it was nothing exceptional but still does the job.

Characters:
I'm on episode 8, and I think these characters won't cut it in the long run. Don't get me wrong, the main characters notably shikimori and yuu, they are cool but the characters beside them are meh. The only other character I really started to like appeared in episode 7 and we where she's coming from and that was really good not gonna lie enough to convince that she is needed for this story to progress into a better story. Anyways, it's a 7 for me, cuz non main characters are 2 dementional. Whatever they do is so predictable, I think they need a makeover at least.

Enjoyment:
When I say I didn't like the characters I didn't mean that I didn't enjoy the show. Since the show only revolves around the two main characters, the side characters play as a stepping stone only. There still were times when I thought it's too much. But there were more times when I thought the setting was too mature and I was invested in what is going to happen. 8 here.

Overall (conclusion): for obvious reasons this show is worth a watch, yes it's having a cliché but when it's shining, it's doing that effortlessly. The animation is good, not flawless but certainly great. I love how I feel after finishing every episode, it's wholesome and mature at the sametime
But again it's possible that why I like this show is because Shikimori san is a really interesting character, the more I watch her, the more I want to know about her.

Love is like sugar, It make life a little more sweeter.
This anime basically tells us about a story of a high school girl, Satou Matsuzaka who fell in love with a child named Shio Koube.
THAT BASICALLY IS NOT NORMAL.

Okay, our protagonist, Satou was a girl who wants to know what love is(she basically found it before the first episode), her image in the school is not that great, I mean some consider her a girl who is a star student- good in studies, beautiful but some also thinks a girl who will sleep with any guy! Well that was ... mostly true before she met Shio that is.
Satou is a freshman at Makikou High School and primarily works at Cure á Cute, her image around her acquaintances is rather gentle and kind in nature and who gets along with people.
She actually says that she don't feel anything about anyone around her!(Instead of Shio that is)
She live with her AUNT or so everyone thinks, but in truth she lives with Shio. works for her to get money and live without any of those problems!
BTW a little spoiler SATOU IS A SAVAGE! XD

Characters
Speaking of people, EVERY PERSON HERE IS INSANE, I mean expect Shouko, Satou's best friend every person have their problems!
From the Teacher to Taiyou, Satou to her aunt. There are two more characters I won't tell or they will be spoilers.
these people are insane that much that I was suffocating with watching them in action!

Sound (OP and ED)
The Opening is to good, I mean I watched the whole show because of it. I was randomly watching Youtube and then I watched it. It tells you about the whole show!
Watching just the opening will tell you that it is not normal,
It starts with a cutesy tone with a beautiful scene where Shio and Satou are doing their ritual to show their love to each other followed by them hugging each other(that was actually cute)then title which also shows the dark theme the show has to offer. THAT alone was enough to force me to watch this show! I mean who won't. Don't judge me!
Ending was normal, I'm that was also a cutesy but not any dark.
~(BTW I forgot to tell that Shio was loved by three people, I mean she was treated as a toy by all three, at least that was how things looked! But the thing is Shio only loved Satou).

Animation
That was good, and was the one of the most positive things in this anime, matches it's cutesy as well as dark theme and is similar to that of Madoka★Magica I think? That is up on your taste!

Enjoyment
I basically did enjoyed this anime and to confirm thing this basically is ALSO NOT NORMAL!
I'm who would enjoy looking at killing, I do but not everyone. I don't know why this anime is rated PG-13, that's absurd this should be at least PG-16.
You will love this anime if you did like Mirai Nikki. Not sure about Madoka★Magica since never watched it after ep1 (SORRY, DON'T SUE ME).
There are times characters in anime do things that were easily avoidable. IDK why they did that. They had services legally!
Like other anime you can't predict what is going to happen next. I mean I was able to predict only one thing in this anime. lets see who else will, it's in the later episodes!
I didn't knew how to convey my feelings while watching this anime. Sometimes I'm sad sometimes happy and sometimes I'm like WTF is going on here.
Also I was not satisfied with the ending!
Before watching this anime be sure that you strengthen your heart as it is gonna be rough!

So, not going into too much details, LETS START!
After the first episode of the series me and some more people were like-
THE FUK IS WRONG WITH THE STORY-It is basically copied! now after I have finished I don't think that it is copied (not much).
The areas which looks copied are the background of Asta- the protagonist of the story as mentioned down below and the surrounding(at first but now it is changed).
Asta is an Orphan, lives in a Magical World with dream to become the king of the clover kingdom.
However Asta doesn't have magic that is not common anywhere, so he does body training ... thinking that he may receive magical powers. He also have a great rival Yuno. He also is an orphan and was found in front of church together with Asta. So both have same birthday, also Yuno excels in everything and is better than most of the people and so is different from Asta. However on his 15th birthday Asta got a Grimoire which have mysterious powers (basically a sword; watch Black Clover I don't want to spoil it by telling it's powers) and have never appeared to anyone before.
I don't think that the story would have been better if the background is not like this
Now as you might have guessed it it is similar to Naruto and Sasuke from NARUTO SERIES (2002- 2017) and Boku no Hero Academia series (2016-20??).
That is the reason for its so many negative reviews!
In my opinion You must watch it if you are a big fan of both the series mention above. As it is soo much interesting now than it was before(since even I found it copied at first). ALSO I DO RECOMMEND IT!
