Cowboy bebop is NOT for people who want to see a character grow from A to B. It's not for people looking to get "inspired" or "motivated" through stories where the hero overcomes the trials and tribulations of life through hardwork, earnestness and the power of friendship.
It is a show where you get to slowly watch how the characters became B. Glimpses of when they were A is shown. With every glimpse you yearn along these characters for times when they were A. Moments long gone but still stuck in their / our heads.
My quick notes to describe the anime:
Type of Anime: Seinen,
...
Episodic.
Artstyle : Typical 90's cell animation style.
Character design : Distinct, Memorable, Cool.
Animation : Fluid action scenes, passable non action scenes
Music : Mostly jazz, sometimes rock ballads.
Chibi animation : none. Thank god.
Directorial vision : Very apparent.
Ecchi content : very minimal (idk if it can even be considered ecchi)
Need to be familiar with Japanese tradition/ history/ popculture : No.
Quick synopsis.
Spike and Jet are bounty hunters who suck at their job. They almost never get their reward. They are joined by Faye, a femme Fatale swindler and Ed the gender fluid hacker wiz kid. Together this group goes on various adventures across the universe chasing after bounty. The genres ranges from comedy to noir to avant garde to soap opera from episode to episode. This variety in flavour is one of the key aspects of the show and will be 'the make it or break it' element for most people. In the middle of this Episodic format is sprinkled in a few episodes that is dedicated to the personal stories of each character - Spikes character getting the most number of dedicated episodes.
