I was introduced to Mo Dao Zu Shi via a friend who has seen the series already. I know a lot of people had trouble getting used to hearing Chinese in this series (it's not an anime but a "donghua") instead of Japanese, I have been learning Chinese for some time now so it wasn't strange for me.
About the series, I think it's really good. The beginning was definitely confusing though. I had to rewatch the first few episodes to understand things.

First of all, I discovered this series from the Gintama/Sket Dance crossover episode, so I'm basically just another Gintama fan checking out the series. At first, like other people, I thought it was, like a character described it, "poor man's Gintama". Anyway, like a lot of other shows, the beginning is a bit slow of course. Yes, I know there are a bunch of Gintama series on MAL, but I think it would be better to write my overall review of the series on the first series' page. After taking a long break from watching anime, this was the first series I chose to watch. Before I began watching it, I was worried I may not get all the references and that it will all just a comedy show, so I was very surprised when I got to the first major serious arc (Benizakura-hen). Of course, there are weak episodes in the series, and the beginning may be a bit weak.
