they both have the same adventure schtick: """ragtag group of interesting, fleshed out, dynamic characters go about a particular outlandish objective blocked by eccentric but equally as interesting antagonist/s in a relatively historical, realistic setting""". they become even more similar as vinland saga progresses, mind those who've only seen the anime. but, golden kamuy has more comedy.

similarly, the anime has a relatively normal guy (who wants nothing to do with these shenanigans) that gets dragged into an extreme, usually funny, and usually non linear situations (as in all episodes do not lead a straight line into the ending's plot. see: hinamatsuri (which i recommend too, same reason), and nichijou as opposed to tokyo ghoul re 2nd season (which i dont recommend)) much of the comedy in these anime (kekkai, sekai, and hinamatsuri) are derived from this aspect, and a lot of the quality comes from the attachment to the characters, as well as the story. respectively, they range from more on "adventure genre" to more on "comedy" but kekkai sensen has more polish, as it lasted longer. hinamatsuri is a hidden gem.
