Alright, big fan of the original who gave it a 10. I found this to be painfully long where there are many stretches of episodes where nothing seems to be accomplished. Specifically two characters are introduced with connection to Mayuri. They are useless. I don't care about them and I just find it annoying that they introduced seemly to fill the void of what seems empty.

Don't let this dissuade you. This is still a very good series parallel to the original. I still give this one an 8. But to say this compares to the original would be ... a stretch. Strap in for the long haul because it feels like one. I think the whole story developing over a character attribute in Mayuri that was absent in the original is kind of a cheap cop out. Also, there are added love dynamics that seem shallow at least a little bit.

I just finished this and it is late at night and I have been putting off my college essay long enough. I will leave with one final note: it seems like it could be condensed a little bit. I think this would've led to fewer frustrating scenes and more focus on the story line.

Also, watch it, it won't be a mistake.

MINOR SPOILERS IN REVIEW

Do not get me wrong, this has been one of my favorite anime for ages. However, the major gripes I had with this caught up to it.

First, the good. The protagonist and antagonist are amazingly designed. I often caught myself on the edge of my seat each time they came close to catching one another. When Light has his ups and downs you are right there with him. You feel euphoria when he gets what he wants. A specific example of this to anyone who has watched is when he is the helicopter with L, and ... he turns to the side to say "I won."

Now, the bad. Misa Misa is the most fucking annoying woman in any anime ever. It is frustratingly so. Every time there is a scene with her, part of me wants to dive in and write her name in that book.

Now, the really bad. The introduction of N. A horrible antagonist and biggest let down of expectations. Everything after the climax is shit.

I would have originally given this a 9 or maybe even 10, but what is after the climax would be at around a 6. Because of this, I would have to rate this lower as an 8.

I would recommend watching this but to stop watching after the "BIG EVENT."
