Probably the most damning thing I could say about this was I was checking my phone a lot. Barely took any screen caps. There's some of the old magic here but in fits and starts. Doesn't so much as take a while to get going as never gets started. And pacing is never something I cared about with Cardcaptor Sakura, the original production is just such a gorgeous towering work. Reserving my judgement of Clear Card until I've seen all of it but the OVA hurts itself in comparison by re depicting something we've already seen and doing so in a way that is just,, flat. The animation is so stiff it doesn't have any of the emotional weight and love that the original series had poured into it. There's a forthrightness to the writing that works for me sometimes and i do like the shoujo splash page style illustrations. obviously they know the animation can't be as expressive as it used to be so they're working around it a little, and what I have
