I truly wish Flip Flappers were more popular so it would get recommended to Madoka Magica fans more often. While Flip Flappers might not have the same level of dark themes it uses many serious and realistic themes and focuses a lot on emotions and the general human psyche and it does so beautifully. They are both new age magical girl anime and don’t shy away from harsh reality while still maintaining a fantastical aesthetic. While Flip Flappers isn’t always everyone’s cup of tea because of its heavy use of metaphors and leaving aspects “up to the audience” I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’d encourage any Madoka Magica fans to give it a try. <3

Doukyuusei

There’s always a need for more good LGBT anime and these are two I found that handle the subject delicately and correctly. While Doukyuusei is much more a romance No. 6 shares themes of clashing ideals in romance and the tough fact of reality. Love is not easy and both of these anime show the side of a relationship that most other gay anime don’t. Feelings are not just smooth sailing and lovey dovey, things are constantly changing and you won’t always agree with each other’s views but when you truly care about someone you can find a way to make it work.
