Gokukoku no Brynhildr (Brynhildr in the Darkness)
[SPOILER ALERT!]
THIS TEXT CONTAINS SPOILER!
Review:
- Stories (Plots, Storyline, Storytelling, etc.):
This anime started the mystery very well. There are those who are immediately curious about the sudden appearance of Neko and his ability to guess a disaster that will occur. Then, the way he told stories also managed to keep the mystery alive. He revealed his secret little by little through small clues that answered some questions and raised other questions at once. ... But unfortunately, the positive value of this anime is only here. The science-fiction element that he uses turns out to be more likely to be in
...
the form of pseudo-science. In other words, all the terms of science and technology mentioned are nothing more than masks that try to make the power of the characters seem scientific, but actually never give a logical explanation or even a theory of how science produces that power. If you view this anime as limited to fighting girls with supernatural powers, this weakness should not be a problem, but the main core of this anime is mysterious technology - that all the events in the story start from a technology that viewers have never seen before. So, when most of the technology turns out to be just a contrived imagination, the whole mystery in this anime is suddenly no longer leaving a lot of attraction.
What's worse, mystery is the only side of this anime that really has an attraction. Occasionally there are effective comedies and exciting actions, but the numbers are too rare to be able to provide ongoing entertainment, while the rest are empty scenes between Ryouta and the female characters who at first glance seem romantic but then go nowhere. As soon as he loses his mystery, there is little reason to continue watching this anime until the end.
- Audio Visual (Art, Animation, Voice Acting, etc.):
Similar to the story, animation in this anime looks very good in the early episodes. However, for some reason, towards the end of the quality it then declines considerably. If before paying attention to every detail, this anime suddenly seemed lazy. The characters' movements look so stiff, and even in some scenes, this anime seems to not care at all about the animation so that the characters appear as if they suddenly change positions. Although audio visual doesn't play much role, this decline is like reinforcing the bad ending for this anime as a whole.
- Character:
Some choices of Ryouta's actions might look unnatural, for example when he did something that was predicted by Neko it would be the cause of his death just to prove the truth of the prophecy. But if you consider the guilt that he triggered an incident that killed his childhood friend, Kuroneko, because he did not believe the girl's words, Ryouta's desire to correct his mistakes and find evidence that could make him believe in Neko began to make sense. Or at the very least, if it were in Ryouta's position, no one could definitely deny that they would not take the same action, especially because Neko then was very similar to the dead friend. Likewise the case with Ryouta's motivation in general to continue to involve himself in the problem of Neko. Although simple, clear and firm reasons gave him a solid foundation so that every sacrifice he made was always understandable. There are no other characters who have an important role or make a meaningful contribution, and lately this anime seems to only try to display as many new characters as possible, but at least to Ryouta, this anime shows that he knows how to write a main character.
