Both have a passionate woman protagonist. Myne is passionate about books, Arte is about art. Both are set in the Middle Ages. However, Ascendance of a Bookworm is a fantasy and Arte isn't. Masters and apprentices systems are somewhat represented in both. More broadly in Ascendance of a Bookworm though because it focuses also on Lutz's apprenticeship in the merchant's guild. Arte focuses solely on art. Protagonists have to deal with hindrances in their pursuits. Myne because she's a commoner in position usually held only by nobles and Arte has to deal with discrimination against women because in those times art was a man's profession only. Myne's relationship with Ferdinand is similar to Arte's relationship with Leo. A naive enthusiastic girl and a stern mentor figure.
