now this is great. its about sport - baseball - and its great. Its so great that it dosent matter any more about what it really is.
of course the very good manga is an easy start. a great story. its very good in itself. provides the material, the passion and the fun, but in this anime happened something thats very rare. the animation creates something even richer.
story and characters are following close the manga. but the carefully improved artstyle, in details of the characters, but especially the surroundings and the backgrounds, supported with great sounds and voice acting, brings in what the manga has
...
not on this level .... an esthetic quality and elegance. It makes the feeling for the different people, their passions, their hopes, their disappointments a true experience.
all is done very traditionally, but thoroughly. the animation is all drawn and delivers good and fluent movements. often we are surprised with interesting shots only an animation could give. but never this ideas are streched to far.
And this great esthetic quality is even further enriched with the stills used in the songs.
life isnt simple, baseball isnt simple and so this great show dosent waste time on silly concepts like good or bad, winning or loosing. It cares for details. it cares for humans. it cares for baseball!
what a great entertainment.
Truely a BIG WINDUP.

the short ova got very unfairly treated on this site. now, thats not a big surprise many other animes are, just to mention Gintama as an example. But contrary as many mediocre products are hyped for no good reason, this fragile movie got trampled brutally.
made a few years earlier than turnAgundam it is taking on again a material which got so distorted in the first animation under the pressure of the producers that Tomino felt it should be made once more without all the additions of aura battler. and so the story is presented in the harsh and brutal inviroment of a medieval world with
...
little space and time for peaceful scenes of refreshment. the way the story is introduced and told is not unlike the later turnAgundam. Only the actions and the dialogues deliver informations, and so the watcher may feel here easily like the main character himself: thrown into it and forced to grasp here and there something to get a hold. in the meanwhile the pressure of the situation is moving the events on and poor chris and the audience is dragged along in the brutality of the moment. That is an accomplishment that's rather seldom.
but Garzey is serious. here is no place and time to create the smooth and gentle humour present in the much longer Gundam story. with short flashes of reaction in the voice or the face of one of the characters feelings, dislikes even doubts are produced. but like in real life, time for consideration and understanding is coming often after events happen. and the relativity of the viewpoint is never taken away from the viewer.
although this 3 part ova has not a great budget the compromises are few only. the animation itself could have been improved with more hands and time and Tomino a master of enriching a setting with many details would surely have liked that. but sound, voice acting and the general design of characters, animals and backgrounds are all very satisfying in the way they carry the movie. everything seems exactly in its place.
so let me say it once more, and clearly to understand: this is a real good anime.

it was propably ill fated from the beginning. tackle topics like individualistic aproach to life, art and genius seriously with a twinkle and finally expect a broad acceptance of the anime consumer - that is not realistic. and so here happened what happens as soon the producers with their red marked statistics take comand and try to turn it around. disaster.
in this case the inconsistency is quite remarkable. from a show intelligently grouping highly individual characters, to create entertaining misunderstandings not clumsely avoiding sex, we finally arrive at a very very mainstream, "ganbare, ganbare" crying, moralistic, crybaby slushy but puritanicly love denying cherry blossom convulsion.
...
ouch.
you possibly got the point that the anamista is not amused about the development. in fact a properly unexplained but useful gas explosion of sakurasou as soon the ratings dropped would have been a far better solution than killing so thoroughly any individuality in the characters.
but to reach such a surprisingly high level of conformity from our promising starting point is an achievement in its own. the episode 23 is a model study of the worst taste. Hopefully the methods used never reach the understanding of ambitious formerly democratic forces on the verge to create a properly uniform world in a cherry blossom color.
so i restart the unabridged recording of the confederacy of dunces to clean somehow away the ugly aftertastes ...

now, it depends certainly on the individual approach wether it improves a movie it features sexual content accordingly to the story. propably its more a question how honestly an individual approaches himself to agree that a movie improves if sex scenes are used to deliver the story properly. because sex really happens
How ever this does not matter very much with this production. here it is all the way around and sex is strictly used to create a great story. a marvelous story. a hilarious story. a story with no mercy to its protagonists and of course with absolutly no mercy to the hypocrisy of modern

life. yes, the whole thing.
in not an hour among many other things it tears down the media, family life, job hierarchy, military, the media, the people, the media, police, otakus, the porn industry, alcoholism, drug abuse, did i say the media. the pace is incredible.
finest, intelligent dialogues, excellent cuts, great sound effects - used in a way of diaphragmatic stimulation with strong electro shocks. artwork right to the point. voice actors are on a level which should be an example for nearby all normal productions.
a true gem ! true art ! a true animastaa !

this got really bad.
the torturted animista can only suspect who actually were the culprits pressed the studio in this way to deliver a sequel, but do in no way anything like the first run. whoever it seems it was someone pritty fat and humourless but with a lot of influence to actually insist in the second season, for contract reasons only of course (!), but could force the makers to iron the whole thing flat. as flat they just could get it. really flat i mean.
they removed all elements which created not a spectacular but still entertaining anime in season one, as the sense

of humour, the artwork and flawless animation suited the topic, and replace them with more of the dreadful "ganbanakya, ganbanakya" singing of morally indisputable, rather square looking crybabies. Was surprised they actually could swim.
holy bukatsu! Now this will propably give president putin some well deserved tears of moral enjoyment.
maa ii, 3 points because it had some colour and sound! thats quite generous.

i actually enjoyed this very much.
facts, developments, thoughts, emotions are brought to the audience in a very unique way. mainly through the dialogues the viewer could grasp quite a rich world around this baseball boys and their girls. these dialogues are far from being mainstreamed. open, doubting, unclear - freely, the protagonists are communicating. together with the excellent use of some other rather complex literary methods, like leaving the important unsaid, using details to unfold the complete a.o.; and the clever split of the medias to create wrong predictions or also intend contradictions between the heard and the shown, the told and the

thought; this show could entertain on a very fine level at all. often was served a nice sense of humour even using smartly still the silliest stereotypes.
the way how its told opens the possibility to enrich it in your own way. unfortunately to open such possibilities is not a guaranty and the loss of decidedness and clearness may discomfort the laisy-minded.
clear recommendation!!
