Akira becomes a little boring at some points. The soundtrack and animation are great - really, great! However, the story is somewhat confusing. Most of the movie lacks important hints, only to have everything thrown at the audience's face as it quickly rushes to the end.
The ending, by the way, is neither interesting nor exciting at all (just something poorly elaborated on creating new universes). However, it’s worth bringing to attention that the movie was released while the manga was still being published, which could make some folks a little more sympathetic regarding the movie's ending. Golden Boy is niched. It was responsible for introducing me to "gag humor", the sexual kind of gag humor. Some people will like it, but others, like me, won't have a pleasant experience.
Kintarou is unlikeable and lame overall. The supporting characters do the trick as the show goes on. In the first episode, we see Kintarou acting and the supporting characters reacting to his actions; but, as Kintarou lacks a solid personality, it just depicts senseless acts.
