I'm happy to say, this anime brought back my faith in good sports anime!
As an Indian, it felt so good to see kabaddi getting some spotlight. It felt even better learning new things about it from the anime, since it means that they paid attention to detail. Yay!!!
All in all it was great. The characters all are unique, and they each have a niche they get into. It was nice to see Yoigoshi, (in some ways at least) act like an experienced sportsperson. I mean, being in sports for a long time, especially if you're highly skilled and in a team sport, brings a maturity
...
from taking on complicated feelings with wins, losses, camaraderie, and everything that goes with it. He was quite the dolt in some places, but quite mature in others, which I felt was more realistic for an athlete of his level and calibre.
The animations during the match, and that 'struggle' voice was highly entertaining and the double meaning and misunderstandings were hilarious. Special mention to the vice captain's split personality!
All in all, if you're a sports anime fan, this is one which is done right! I know it got a lot of hype, but trust me it's worth watching, I promise.

This was one of my favourite anime of the season!
I love it when anime pack in a decent story while being super laid-back and chill, and that's exactly what this one did. Look, I get it. Isekai is done, dusted, overused, killed, burnt to ashes and resurrected all over again, but I'm amazed at the creativity that flows from the genre even now!
This story follows a girl who's summoned to be a saint, but there are 2 summoned, and we don't really know which one is a saint. SO our hero just wants to find a job and adjust to the world. Realistic (as can be)
...
and down to earth. It's why I like it.
i loved the art, especially when she uses magic, and there's SOMETHING about the way they present that love story which has ME squealing like a 14 year old, because it's just so dang cute!
Also, I dunno why but there was some miserable animation in the last but one episode, but otherwise, calm anime, fun story and interesting characters. give it a go!

FINALLY, A WOMEN'S SPORTS ANIME WHERE THE PLAYERS ACTUALLY TIE UP THEIR HAIR!!!!!
I cannot tell you how sick I am of female characters playing sports with their hair all over the place!!! This point alone is enough to make me give this anime a chance.
As a sports anime, I felt that it was a bit all over the place. When they focused on the sport, they did it well. I like how nicely they put out the point that exceptional players do not necessarily make an exceptional team.
Unfortunately, the few places where they lost that focus, were painful to watch. I almost dropped the anime
...
because of that.
But in the end, they gave us a good match. I mean, the plot is pretty standard - extremely talented girl, had no teammates before, now finally gets to be in a proper team, some awesome moves, team building, etc. However, they do show realistic team-building, in the fact that it takes time. You can't REALLY become a good team overnight, and that is well displayed.
As a sports anime, it's pretty average. It's average in the beginning, gets downright unbearable in the middle, and actually gets somewhat good in the end. If you're a hardcore sports anime fan, give it a shot, otherwise, there really are better sports anime out there.

Don't trust the apparent randomness of the first few episodes, because it shapes itself up extremely well.
First off, Odokawa. The disinterested, or unwilling hero. All he wants to do is drive his taxi, but gets caught up in all sorts of things. He's an enjoyable personality to watch, and I love the lightning fast banter that goes on in the series It's one of the main attractions for me, and the wit is sometimes so subtle that you tend to miss the punch if you're not paying attention. If you've seen "Nami yo, kitekure", it's kinda like that, but way more bearable and way more
...
witty, in my opinion.
In terms of the story, it's impressive. it gives a vibe of wanting to be underestimated, and brushed off as a random, "God knows what's happening" kinda plot line, but if you stick to it, I promise, you will be rewarded.
Odd taxi is a suspense and thriller anime, and DO NOT let the fun banter and the weird animal setting fool you. This is one anime that I will beg you to stick to the end, because I promise you, it WILL make sense, and it is DEFINITELY worth it!

The word to describe this anime is "raw".
I mean, it has a very rough feeling to it, not as polished as Kono Oto Tomare, and much heavier. You'll see what I mean if you watch it.
Don't let the high school setting fool you, this anime deals with some serious stuff.
The story follows a boy struggling to deal with the death of his grandfather, who was a shamisen player. He grew up around it, has innate talent for it, but cant deal with the fact that his grandpa is gone. All the boy wants to do is find his own sound, but he has people pulling
...
him every whichway.
Most anime with sports, music, whatever, tend to exaggerate the intensity of the art in question until you can no longer really relate to it, and you just have to go "ok, maybe an actual player/ musician would feel like that". But here, Setsu's story feels so simple yet complicated, and you root for him because it's so bloody unfair!!!!!
Speaking of fair, I appreciate realism in anime, and i enjoyed that they showed seasoned players get what they deserve. I mean innate talent is a great start, but without training you can't REALLY beat people who have trained for years.
Don't wanna give spoiler, but his parents are shitty.
Honestly, I highly recommend this anime. It really tugs at your heart, the way this poor boy is caught between it all and I feel like a lot of people can relate to the theme of parents using their kids for their own selfish reasons, though it might not always involve a shamisen.

The reason I don't watch rom coms is probably because almost nobody acts sensibly, or even normally. But it's funny how this over-the-top story actually has people who behave normally.
I don't particularly hate Ryo. Yes, he's a womanizer, but he doesn't hide it, and women know exactly where they stand with him. I mean, he doesn't deceive them. I like how, as adults we're so used to all these games and dancing around each other, that it took an actual person with no experience of this to tell him that it's creepy. I'm probably reading too much into t, but it's how I like to
...
see it.
I really liked how mature Ichika was. She knew she had to decide. She took decisions and was decent enough not to leave anyone hanging. In a world of adults, it's the highschooler who had the most common sense. That, to me, is the true irony of the anime.
And no, I do not appreciate the way he literally harassed her every damn time. It's the only thing i do NOT like about Ryo. It's not cool and not funny. He could have been decent to her, but he choose to be creepy.
The show's ok....I enjoyable if you can get past the nagging he does in the first few eps. I would encourage you to watch it if you love rom coms.

The words to describe this anime is mediocre and messed up.
First of all, am I the only one who noticed the very Cardcaptor Sakura like sequence in the OP? The running and wings and flying?
And second, this is seriously reminding me of Kanata no Astra.
The storyline is confused. Not confusing, CONFUSED. They took the time to put in some major issues, conflict and even all powerful villains, but it's as if they didn't know what to really persue, so they put in a bit of everything, which would wonderfully be solved by the power of FRIENDSHIP. UGH.
I'm not saying I don't like friendship. I'm saying
...
that Kanata (yes her name is Kanata - AGAIN, Kanata no Astra) is this horribly sunny character with no darkness at all in her. I mean we see the mould all the time - Naruto, Natsu,Emilico - but they work because they have depth and darkness. This girl....by GOD, her only job is to be a goof, be universally loved and save the world. its so sunny it makes you kinda sick of it.
And the whole Cosmo Beauty thing. It had SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!! They gave like a 2 minute explanation and that was that!!! Damn that could have redeemed the entire anime. Anything could have redeemed the anime if it had stuck to it, actually.
If you're planning on watching this, go ahead. If you're unsure, give it a miss. There are better stuff out there.

Higehiro is basically the story of a teenager's extremely good luck in meeting man who did the thing that should have been common sense - help a child, and not take advantage of her.
I liked it.
The title is weird, but it's actually a nice cute, almost wholesome story.
I think the best part about it is how sensible Yoshida is. I mean, not when it comes to Sayu, obviously, but otherwise. When dealing with other people, especially Gotou, he comes right out and asks the questions which a sensible, normal person would ask, unlike other protagonists who think a monologue and say nothing, therefore making wrong
...
assumptions. Yoshida gives no room for that kind of shit.
I love Gotou. She's a mature woman, and even though superstitious, she's still sensible. Mishima makes me wanna slap her in the face. With a bomb. Her attitude of forcing her feelings is so ANNOYING, and no way a guy doing what she was doing could have gotten away with that! I appreciate the anime for showing that women can be creepy too, and i'm glad that Yoshida addressed it somewhat, though he should have told he to get the f out of his face.
Now Sayu. Her family dynamics was well done. The story is out there, yet believable, and honestly, we all know that these things happen. And no one can truly blame a literal child for behaving the way she did. We've all been teenagers, and the hot headedness of that time can truly lead you to make some terrible decisions.
The relationship of Yoshida and Sayu is well done. I like how they focus more on him than her, which is honestly the better angle (hers can easily be broken down to "infatuated teenager"). I love how he acknowledged how emotionally dependent he had become on her, and how he really had to struggle to get his life back on track. I just wish they had given some sort of confirmation that they DIDN'T end up together, or he ended up with Gotou, because if he dates Sayu, it ruins the entire bloody point they're trying to make.
There are some glaring loopholes, like how, if everyone is so worried abut Yoshida, one of the women could have easily offered to house Sayu (but I don't know if that's also illegal, but it would have been better that the current arrangement), but it's a great anime, with some good messages. it's worth a watch.

I enjoyed this way more than I should have.
A dragon who just wants to find a home. That's a first.
Its supposed to be a comedy, and it relies on the usual stuff (contrasting situations, surprise twits, etc) to get laughs. On that front, it's extremely average.
The true shining point of this anime is the realism they bring into it. It's about a dragon in a fantasy world full of fantasy creatures but so many practical matters! You've got a real estate agent, different types of homes, loans deposits, the 'rent or buy" argument, family homes, bachelor homes, and work with lie-in accommodation, and taxes. TAXES!!!!
...
Can it get more real than that???
Also, Dearia is HOT. From looks to poise to manners, that man is a sight for sore eyes. The contrast between Dearia and Letty was hilarious.
Look, it's no masterpiece, and there are probably better anime to watch. But if you want something lighthearted and fun, give this one a shot!

Finally, after a long time, a sports anime actually focused on the sport.
I love sports anime. It' one of my favorite genres. but i felt like he sports anime these days are less sports and more drama. What with Skate Leading Stars, Wave Surfing Yappe, and so many others who just conveniently skipped the sport part, it was refreshing.
The anime hitches you from the very beginning, so there's no doubt that you want to watch it from the very first episode. The boys are adorable, and they truly feel like high school kids. Too often, for the sake of drama, the characters are soooooo emotionally
...
mature that it doesn't suit their age, but these guys are the goofy kids they're meant to be.
The coach and the manager are honestly the greatest parts of the anime. The coach is actually seen as someone struggling with himself and his regrets. I like how they took the time to drive home the point that nobody's perfect, from the coach's dilemmas to Onagawa's shenanigans, everyone has demons.
THE ROUTINE. i loved that they gave us the entire choreography without any long monologues or cutaways. Sports anime focused on the sport - just how I like it!
If you love sports anime, give it a go. It's just a story about a bunch of goofy high school boys doing something they love, but it's surprisingly endearing and overall very enjoyable. 100% recommend.
