The second half of the second season picks up right where it leaves off, Subaru starts to utilize his friend Otto and flips the script on Roswaal. The story tries to show that Subaru should be using his friends opposed to trying to do everything himself, which I have no problems with. I still don't understand the logic or reasoning behind the demi-humans capturing the humans and forcing Emilia to do the trials, because Garfiel just didn't want to do them himself. He also didn't want them to break the barrier for the sanctuary, but still kept the humans prisoner. It doesn't make much sense
...
to me.
Emilia is doing the trials, and we see her past. While I found her backstory to be extremely sad, and I loved her growth as a character, I still cannot see myself into thinking she's a great character at all. Subaru and everyone else wants her to be the Queen, but he has no leadership aspects at all at the moment. The trials that she overcame were extremely easy, I guess this is the author showing how hard it is to overcome your past because we see Roswaal also unable to overcome his past.
This season definitely had a lot more dialogue, and I feel like most of those speeches were kinda bad, a lot of non sequitur lines. Subaru just saying whatever and the person listening to it, either Emilia or Betty would just eat it all up.
Those are my only complaints, everything else was amazing. The action was top notch and music was great
