I haven't been writing reviews for a while because of school. I have so many reviews that I need to write about some terrible animes and some really good ones I've seen recently. One of the really good animes I've watched recently is Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. I'm writing the review now and not after watching the third movie because I know they aren't supposed to connect so this review is purely on the recaps.
Before starting, I'll tell you what I thought of the anime (or movie?) before I watched it. I thought it was a kiddy anime about a bunch of girls with magical
...
powers and they go around saving people with their powers of friendship and love. In other words, I had really low expectations of it but after being nagged by many to watch it, I gave it a go and I was mind blown.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica mainly follows a young girl called Madoka. Everything starts off with a mysterious transfer student who no one seems to know about and a rabbit-like creature (that reminded me of Miffy, you know that cartoon rabbit?) that grants one wish for a dire consequence, becoming a magical girl. Madoka is introduced into this world of magical girls that normal humans aren't aware off and the story heads off from there.
Story 9/10
The story in a nutshell wasn't something that unique, come on we've all seen the story where the weird transfer student turns out to be someone special in one anime or the other, but the way it was put together and presented was really something else. The start was a bit slow but once the story started to properly pick up, it was such an exhilarating anime. I've never been a fan of 'fate' animes but like I said before, the way the story was pieced together was really fantastic and hard not to love. The writers weren't afraid to kill off important characters which made the story more special. There were of course, like most animes, a few plot holes but there were so minor that you would forget them 5 mins later.
I just have one more thing to add, I really liked the ending. It wasn't perfect and even bordered on depressing but it was such a satisfying ending.
Art 10/10
This was probably where the anime stood out to me the most. The character art was nothing special, I didn't really like it that much because it made the anime seem really childish, which it definitely wasn't. The bordering chibi art style wasn't what I would have liked the character art to be but I'm guessing it was done so the aura of the anime was lighter.
The background art, was absolutely exceptional. The labyrinths were so detailed and the wacky art style used for them was just so beautiful. It was just so different that I loved it so much.
Sound 9/10
I really liked the background music that played during fighting scenes or more emotional scenes, they were so well placed that you barelt noticed them and you could just feel yourself being lifted deeper and deeper into the anime.
I wasn't a fan of the ED music played, it was long and very dragging. I think a more upbeat song would have suited it but I'm guessing it was meant to be savored as emotional.
Characters 8/10
I never really thought about the characters before writing this review, they were nothing more than the story linkers, they tied everything together. They is nothing special about most of the characters but somehow, you end up liking them all. The back story of some are shown and they are just tear jacking but they aren't characters you could relate to. Except for Sayaka, I think most could relate to her and even drop a tear for her at some scenes. But as an overall, the characters serve as nothing more than characters to a show (which is what they are... but you know what I mean).
As an overall, even though the individual parts didn't score a perfect 10, I have to give this anime a 10/10. I really loved it and definitely look forward to rewatching it very soon. I'm thinking of watching the series and comparing the two.
I'm really sorry for the overly long review...

It slightly pains me to write this review because I have to write it completely based off this season alone, which dropped my overall Darker than Black score for me. And please note that this review in no way is based off the first season as well.
Darker than Black is set in a world where these mysterious and deadly things called Hell's Gate and Heaven's Gate appear and with it came along humans with super powers (called contractors because they each have a toll to pay for their power) and dolls, who are lifeless humans. There are many different organizations that are trying to
...
uncover the truth of the Gates and part of one of them is Hei, the main protagonist. Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini still follows this plot but now everyone is racing to get ahold of Izanami and Izanagi, the new turning points to the story.
Story 6/10 - I couldn't grab hold of what was happening during a lot of the anime. The characters were jumping from place to place and a very weak plot was followed during this point. The storyline then picked up towards the end but it was still quite confusing and everything seemed a little rushed. The ending itself just left you mind blown (in the worst way possible) and the details leading up to it seemed random and pety.
Art 10/10 - This is an area where this anime cannot drop at all. As the rest of the series, the art was exceptional. The scenery was always well done and the amount of detail put into the background always shocks me. The fighting scenes are always done well and just seem oh so cool.
Sound 7/10 - The sound was decent and could have been a lot better. At the start, scenes which lacked complete excitement were over played with heart racing music which made the misplacement really easy to pick up on. Sometimes emotional sound tracks played while the scene lacked emotion which again was easy to pick out. But as per the first season, the OP and ED were amazing and really suited the style of the anime.
Characters 8/10 - The characters in this season took on a girly aura, there seemed to be a lot of feelings and love which felt out of place. We saw a whole new side of Hei this season and new characters were introduced. Most characters played a short role but their character art and personality were still unique. Shou was the main character in this season and she is portrayed as an innocent young girl which is different to see in such a dreading future and she is shown to see spots of happiness. We also get to see a deeper side of July.
Overall, I give Darker than Black: Ryuusei no Gemini a 7/10. I didn't enjoy it as much as the first season or the OVAs but it was still a good watch. There were enjoyable scenes but I feel as though it had a lot more potential.

I don't know how to start writing this review because I don't know how to type what emotions I go through while watching this anime (and often days after). But the biggest feeling I get is awe. Awe with jaw drops and goosebumps. One top of that there's hilarious comedy, some tearful moments and conveyed anger. That is a part of what makes up my favourite anime of all time, One Piece.
Even though I would think most know the basics of One Piece, I'll go through it again.
There once lived a man named Gol D. Roger who was given the title The Pirate King. At
...
his moment of execution, he announced that his greatest treasure, One Piece, is hidden away in 'that place' and invited anyone to find it. This brought The Great Age of the Pirates and many men set out to the sea to find One Piece and become Pirate King.
The story follows Luffy, probably the most lovable hero you'll ever come across. He aims to become Pirate King and sets out on a journey through the seas to wholeheartedly follow his goal. He first plans to gather his crew members and a ship to then journey through the greatest and toughest seas, The Grand Line.
Story 10/10 - The story One Piece follows is very unique, not just in comparison to other animes but also Hollywood. You might say, 'Pirates, big whoop, it's been done before' but I have no words to express how wrong you'd be. I wasn't a fan of the pirate genre (unless it had Johnny Depp in it) but One Piece opened my eyes.
The plot is solid and I have to say that Oda knows how to tie everything together perfectly. There's nothing that doesn't happen for a reason in this anime. There aren't many useless fillers or completely pointless arcs. As the story moves further, you'll find yourself getting more and more attached.
Sound 10/10 - The sound is brilliant. The music gets you leaning forward in your seat, eyes wide, grips hardened (hmm, sounds too much like a H-anime but you get what I mean). Without the music to braze together everything, I doubt One Piece would be worth half its value. The moods are set perfectly and I yet have to pick out a moment where a sound theme has even been a second too late or early. I get so hyped up when hearing certain music themes. Every character also has their own theme song which is just done perfectly to suit the character. Another thing that suits the characters is the laugh each character is given with their persona, each unique.
Art 10/10 - I do admit I was one of those people who put off One Piece for a long time because I didn't like the art. I don't know if my vision was lacking because now that I can finally see, it is truly spectacular art. I thought the character design seemed half done but it couldn't suit each person more. The background art has always been beyond standards with certains scenes where you just want to pause and stare at.
After the time skip, the art becomes more modern (by that I mean crisp). The characters have a new added gloss but they still have the style unique to One Piece.
The main thing which I love about the animation is that there are regular costume changes for the characters. So you never sit through it and wonder if they actually are stinky pirates with scurvy.
Characters 10/10 - Probably the strongest point of One Piece, as it should be for any anime (unfortunately this is too much to ask for in most cases). Luffy is an unwavering character who will always do what he thinks is right. He is childish and a bit spoilt but this makes him the person who everyone is drawn to. He doesn't chase any unnecessary romances, his mind is set to his one goal to become Pirate King. I have never heard (and doubt I ever will hear) anyone mention anything along the lines of 'I dislike Luffy'. The other main characters are also just as worthy.
Zoro's determination makes him one of my favourite characters, also because he's just boss with his santoryu.
Nami is a theif whose main interest is money and navigating but isn't that a true pirate? Her cunning ways make her the awesome character she is.
Usopp is well Usopp. He's a liar and a coward just as his name states but he brings about the greatest character development because I have to say that I absolutely hated him at the start.
Sanji is just kickass (it's a pun because he kicks to fight). His overly love towards women does become occasionally annoying but he is an amusing and strong character.
Chopper, is a cotton candy loving reindeer often mistakened as a tanuki (racoon). He is a cute, lovable, funny character who can become something else when pushed.
Robin is a smart character whose wit always has you thinking how cool she is.
Franky is a suuppeerr character. He's strong and really funny.
Brook is a very unique person. He's a hentai whose jokes always make you crack up laughing.
All of these characters come with unique back stories and a purpose which I just love.
The supporting characters of One Piece have been given so much of thought. Many characters grow to become your favourites. Characters such as Ace, Whitebeard, Mihawk, Shanks, Hancock, even though they don't play the main role, it feels as though a lot of thought has been poured into them.
There have also been characters who were purposely created to hate, like the tenryuubito.
All in all, the character section makes up the main traits of One Piece.
Overall 10/10, I don't think I can give this any other score. It is an anime for all ages and I promise you that you will never regret watching it. One Piece isn't just something for entertainmemt, it's become a part of my life.

First off, I'm warning anyone who hasn't seen Mirai Nikki that my review MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!
This episode just starts off as a special. It's summer camp so the school is at the beach. There's playful humor and a bit of girl-girl action (which seems to happen in every anime beach scene). As the episode progresses, the truth behind the ending begins to unfold.
I'm a big fan of Mirai Nikki but found the ending off-putting for some reason. The last episode of the anime just killed my feelings towards Mirai Nikki as a total. After watching this OVA, I felt a better conclusion.
I feel as though
...
I now better understand Yuno which is something which I never grasped from the 26 episodes I watched. I don't question whether she was born a psycho or not anymore. I was happy that I was able to see more of twelfth. Eleventh was also brought in a villanous, humourous manner. So in character development, this episode did a lot for me.
*Note how I'm ignoring Yuki because I still hate the crap out of him, nothing can save him*
The art and sound were beautiful like the rest of the anime. I really loved the OP, I'm sad that it was only used once.
In total, I give this OVA an 8/10. It was done very well for an OVA. This episode isn't a must see, though if you weren't satisfied with the original ending (like me), I really do recommend this. It explains events to a further point.

Okay, lets start off with saying that everyone knows Shakespeare' s Romeo and Juliet. It's a well established play and movies have followed (with one coming soon). So when I came in to watch this anime I thought I knew what I was going into. The same old same old, right?
Wrong.
Romeo x Juliet tell the tale of two lovers named Romeo and Juliet but that's as far as the relevance to the play goes. In this version there's pegasi, evil Dukes, magic trees, long lost relatives and a rebel fighter. Sounds appetizing right? Wrong again. Romeo x Juliet has been one of the most
...
boring and agonizing anime adventures I have had.
Story 7/10 - I have to say that Gonzo were creative with changing the story to a well known topic. They did it in such a way where even though you think you know the outcome, you second guess yourself and then third guess. I was surprised with the plot during most of the anime. Though, at times I was let down by the randomness and the loose wires left laying around. Sometimes I found myself thinking that some scenes were unnecessary to the plot.
Art 6/10 - I wasn't a big fan of the character art but the scenery was spectacular. The buildings really were drawn in the style of Italy in the Middle Ages. The flowers were also well drawn and easily distinguishable. There isn't really much to talk about the art, it was good.
Sound 8/10 - The best aspect of the anime by far. The OP (which is a Japanese version of You Raise Me Up) sounded so beautiful and I always looked forward to listening to it. The ED during the first half was also really good, it was more of an upbeat song which suited the anime. The ED during the second half wasn't as good but it suited the more serious phase the anime was entering. The background music was always well timed and set the mood.
Characters 3/10 - BOOM and the anime just explodes at this point. The characters were terrible. If this was based off Shakespeare' s Romeo and Juliet, couldn't some characters at least remained the same? My favourite character, Mercutio, was crumbled and desrroyed. That aside, lets say for originality purposes. Then there's the way characters were made to seem unnecessarily evil. They had evil cackles, the eyes, the terrible lines and altogether seemed over the top and unnatural. Duke Montague was portrayed awfully and so was the Friar. Many characters from the play didn't even make an appearance, for originality again maybe? And don't even get me started on Romeo and Juliet. Romeo seemed so emotionless at so many scenes and too emotional at some. He was shown as an ignorant child (which I guess he was so they did something right). Juliet as the Red Whirlwind was one of the most kickass characters but as soon as she took off that mask, she became an underdeveloped and wimp-like character. The only decent characters which stopped me from giving this section a 0 was Tybalt (and his muscly arms), Antonio, Francisco and a bit of Benvolio.
Overall, I give this anime a 5/10. Through the first half of the anime I found myself completely dull with no emotions towards the anime. As the anime continued, I found myself wanting to hurry up and finish it so I could write this review. It wasn't a waste of time because I now appreciate Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet a lot more. The occasional quotes from the play were a treat and I do admit some scenes were cute. Yet, I wouldn't recommed this to many but if you wouldn't mind having the flower power 'peace man' quota being thrown around, go ahead and give this a shot. I definitely don't want to be rewatching this.

Howl's Moving Castle is a movie which is greatly acclaimed and loved. I wanted to see what I was missing out on so I watched it.
This movie is about a woman named Sophie who owns a hat shop. On the way to meet her sister, Sophie is saved from shifty men by a handsome, wizard named Howl. The witch of the waste then decides to intervene and casts a spell on Sophie out of jealousy. On a journey to recover her old self, she ends up on the moving castle as a cleaner. Then there's lots of magic, secrets, an adoptive family and a
...
war?
Story 6/10 - Many will say that I am scoring the story with too much of mercy, I agree that I am. The plot of this movie was all over the place. When a storyline started to pick up, it would get drowned out with something else. There was nothing that was thoroughly solved or even explained. I liked the magic and the occasional humor but they never led to anything. At the end I was left feeling cheated and deprived of an actual ending.
Art & sound 9.5/10 - This is where this movie shines. The art and sound were both exceptional. The scenery at every single scene was so detailed, my favourite scenery being the intricate details of Howl's room. The art was perfectly done and the music also kept up in pace with the art. The music was well timed and set the mood perfectly.
Characters 8/10 - I absolutely loved the heroine, Sophie. She had an entertaining personality and I liked her comments and reactions to situations. The witch of waste, Calcifer, Markl and Turnip also had really good characteristics, they kept the show entertaining. I don't think that Howl was portrayed in the best way, at times he was a very weak character and instead of mysterious, he came off as lacking which was a let down.
Overall, 7/10, I couldn't score it any less due to the art perfection. I don't think I enjoyed this anime as much as other viewers but it is still worth a watch, if you enjoy kisses solving all the world's problems.

NANA tells the story of two young women who meet on a train with a one way ticket to Tokyo. They are both 20 years old and by pure fate they are both named Nana. Though they are similar in these aspects, they are completely different personality wise. Osaki Nana is a punk singer who also plays a bit of guitar whose dream is to make it famous as a musician. Komatsu Nana is a cheery, immature woman whose greatest dream is to be a a bride and live in a villa. Yet, these two form a great bond and after more fateful events, end
...
up living together. They help eachother with the problems each of them face through their lives, problems of love and about their future.
Story 9/10 - I found this anime fantastic. NANA held such a strong story since it's beginning. I enjoyed it a lot but I feel that the story didn't flow as easily through the second half. The first arc was fantastic, I have never held such a mixed range of emotions over a few episodes. Though, I feel like a lot was rushed through the second half and it constantly left a feeling as if you were on edge. Yet, I greatly enjoyed it, the emotions which I believe Ai Yazawa was trying to convey were felt by me.
Animation & music 10/10 - The art was fantastic, though I found the malnutritioned bodies a bit eerie. The characters were all so unique and the details with the piercings were beautiful. The music was my style of music so I'm biased when I say it was the best I've heard. The guitar was beautiful to listen to and Layla's voice was glorious. Kudos to Aya Hirano for having one of the most soothing and talented voices I have heard.
Characters 10/10 - All the characters were so lovable. I loved both the Nanas, I found them unique. There has been plenty of character depth and growth which I found very interesting to see unravel. The characters were obviously well planned.
Overall, I give NANA a 9/10. As much as I feel bad about giving this score, I cannot give it any higher because of my opinion of the second half of the anime. Otherwise, it was a very well done anime and I recommend it to everyone and am hopeful for another season.

I actually enjoyed this anime so much. I originally started watching it because I was after a time passer but Kobato turned out to be so much more. The whole anime was such a mood lifter and can be best described as soft and fluffy.
The story follows a girl, Kobato, who has been sent to Earth to heal people's hearts. She has 4 seasons of the weather to fill up a jar with the 'konpeito', what the bottled heart fragments are referred to. Her guide is Iorogi, a being taking the form of a stuffed animal. Kobato falls in love with a nursery
...
she begins to work at and the story follows from there.
Story 8/10 - I admit that the last few episodes aren't what I expected. It turned out to be one of those 'fate' animes. Up until the last episode the story was perfect. There were occasional fillers but they were funny and cute so I didn't mind. The anime was well paced, never did I think, 'did I miss something?'. Even though the ending wasn't perfect, it had its own charms because it showed what happened to everyone as time passed and I couldn't spot any holes in the plot. It ran really smoothly. Though, I didn't like that they kept us guessing Kobato's past until the very end.
Animation & music 8/10 - The art was beautiful. I didn't like how the hair was done for some characters but the art was so crisp and pretty. The change of clothing was also something which I liked, especially Kobato's.
The music was soft and refreshing. I truly did enjoy the songs which were used, even though they were repetitive. The OP and ED suited the anime very well.
Characters 9/10 - The characters were so deep. That's what I loved. Everyone had a back story, even if it wasn't explained very well. Their personalities were done very well. Kobato was truly the most gorgeous character and it was very hard not to love her. All the other characters were likeable too.
Overall, 8/10, I really enjoyed this anime and look forward to re watching it sometime in the future.

It has been a true honour to have been able to experience this anime.
The story is about a young girl, Yukari, who is questioning who she wants to be. She feels as though the career ahead of her isn't what she wants. Yukari then gets a taste of the world of fashion through the new 'paradise kiss' clothing brand and takes a liking to it. She also experiences her first love through a seemingly cold man named George.
Story 9/10 - The story was beautiful. It was definitely different from what I was expecting. It felt so mature which many animes lack these days. It lacked
...
a sense of adventure but it ruled over the slice of life genre. The ending wasn't perfect, as much as I wished it. Yet, I feel as though there couldn't have been a better ending. It was truly amazing.
Animation 10/10 - The art of this anime is what stood out to me. It was really a job well done. The style shocked me at first because the bodies and faces were actually proportional *gasp*. The characters were beautiful and so detailed. The piercings and the gorgeous clothing was what stood out to me. If I didn't give this a 10 just for the clothing itself, it will haunt me until I change it.
One thing I thought didn't fit into the theme was when the characters turned into ballon heads, it was strange and I thought it didn't suit the mood at times.
Music 8/10 - Somehow I thought the music wasn't as up to standards. Even though the OP and ED were exceptional, catchy and suited the anime (thus the 8), there was a complete lack of background music. I think it was because they wanted to keep it more realistic. Though, in my opinion it didn't work because I felt as though a mood was lacking. I didn't know how to react during certain scenes. I felt like I was reading a LN. I also noticed that at certain points when a faint background song can be heard, it was misplaced. Nonetheless, the ending theme was so good so I cannot say anymore.
Characters 9/10 - The characters were fairly good. I admit that I loved George's personality, he was different to many other characters. He was uncaring and thoughtless without being a tsundere. Yukari was a decent heroine. I have to say I would have never stayed with George for the time she lasted. She seemed like a pushover at times but redeemed herself with her will and beauty during other scenes. The supporting characters were all likable and relatable.
Overall 9/10 - I truly enjoyed this anime. I had an amazing experience. The only reason it has lost a point is because of the lack of emotion Paradise Kiss pulled out of me. I completely recommed it to anyone over 16, it has a few sexual references and scenes. Definitely will revisit this anime in the future, it has pulled me into the fashion genre.

EPIC. This has been added to my top animes. An anime has never drawn out so many emotions from me.
Sunday without God is set in a world where God has suposedly abandoned the world and has granted humans a life on Earth as a dead person. The only people who can bury the dead and put them to rest are gravekeepers.
This is basically about a 12 year old girl named Ai. She takes on her mother's role of being a gravekeeper after her mother's death. Ai takes it upon herself to save the world and goes through many calamities.
Story 10/10 - I have
...
to say that the story was gold. It was so creative and enjoyable. Like most animes, I thought I could guess what would happen. Unlike most animes, I was completely wrong.
I felt like I died a little inside at the end of the 3rd episode, I have never become so attached to a character after just 3 episodes of any show. The ending was just EPIC. It threw me way off and I literally jumped up screaming WHAT. I know a lot of people called it a troll ending but I thought it was something different.
Animation & music 10/10 - The OP and ED were very good and suited the anime. The background music, along with the angles used were so good, it pulled me right into the anime.
The animation was really beautiful and crisp. The colours and tones used were perfect and during the sunsets, the yellow wash was magnificent.
It suited the whole theme of no one being able to die because everyone looked roughly the same age to me, well that's how I interpreted it.
Characters 9/10 - First up, I have to say that Ai is just so cute. She was such a lovable character.
I feel like I attached myself to the characters because after the death of a certain character (no spoilers), I shatered. All the other characters, mains or supporting, were exceptional. The growth of the characters could be seen and that is very important in a good anime to me.
Overall, 10/10, I thoroughly enjoyed this anime and I really am looking forward to more. I actually cried during some scenes and I have to say that it's very hard to pull a 10 out of me. I am so drawn to this anime that I have taken it upon myself to read the manga.
