Since its release in the late 90`s, it had his own porpose of an shonen anime (that was the hype in that decade) and has been one of the greatests names in its category since today (just as HunterXHunter).
it is an absolute BASIC text, but SO WELL MADE. It follows a formula: Luffy helps a random guy in the most random circunstnces and then they become friends and go to the next island, for a LOT of episodes. And all of this character have a basic formula of "luffy helped me with this situation, ill help him travel the planet while i follow my own
...
dream" and just turns into Charisma with no/almost null following text to them, BUT IT WORKS PERFECTLY IN THE SERIES`PATTERN OF WRITTING.
Every character, without exeption, has its own personality and style, THAT WORKS PERFECTLY WITH THE REMAINING CREW MEMBERS.
The world has a MASSIVE amount of worldbuilding, the power sistem is not exactly very interesting or concrete, but is definetily original coherent and easy to understand. THE WRITING OF THIS WHOLE SERIES MAKES IT JUST IMPECABLE: EVERY SCENE, WHEN IT HAS TO BE DRAMATIC AND EMOTIONAL, IS EXTREMELY DRAMATIC AND EMOTIONAL (keep in mind is a shonen).
The themes are very well written and shows the whole world of one piece as it is: first from the eyes of lufffy then from ours. LUFFY IS A FUCKING PEAK CHARACTER WITH SOOO MANY SCALES THAT ARE SHOWN TO US SINCE THE BEGGINING, AND IS SO COOL TO SEE HOW LUFFY DEALS WITH THIS MESSED UP WORLD AND HOW THAT REFLEXES ON HIM AND HIS IDEALS OF FREEDOM.
overall it would be peak fiction if toei didnt fcked the pacing.
