Wicked City is a stylish, well animated film that will have most viewers questioning what exactly fuels their love for anime as a whole. Regardless of if they liked the film or not. Mainly because it's an experience, so out there that it's really hard to pin down specifically what it's trying to be.
The films focus on psychological horror elements, and it's full embrace of sexual themes in conjunction with the horror aspects create a really interesting film that some will find excessive. And others will find fascinating.
The animation on display is smooth and appealing, with every creative choice feeling deliberate and calculated.
...
With the colour choices for scenes specifically serving to set the mood.
While some might feel disgust toward a film like this. I am personally fascinated by this movie. While I can't possibly recommend it to everyone. It's an experience that really feeds off the different thoughts of the many people who choose to watch it.

this show is really really cool, I never really understand shows where every time something substantial happens, the show resets to a previous point in time. but this show does it quite well.
taking place in a small rural village, the show focuses on a small group of friends who all attend the same school and live close to each other. the show's main concept is that the town is cursed and every year at the cotton drifting festival, 2 new people end up going missing or getting killed. the show really sticks with it's main concept, and loves to reveal what characters are actually
...
like over time, leaving a lot of space for speculation on if a character is really who they let off to be.
occasionally the art quality will drop well below "good" standards, but it has a very distinct tonal style, that gives it instant recognition. studio DEEN has never been amazing at making shows with breathtaking animation, and you can almost tell when the show or the studio experienced budget cuts by just looking at the animation quality of their shows. the animation however is very good when it count's, making it easy to overlook when the shows animation is bad.
often times, the shows score and backing music fades into the dialogue. i never really paid much attention to it when watching. however the op theme is really good and suits the show just fine.
this is a show i would recommend you check out if you haven't already. it's pretty well known and has almost a cult classic appeal to it. it does have a second season follow up called "when they cry REI." i haven't seen REI yet, but i have it on DVD and will write a review based on it when i get the chance. it supposedly has more brutal content, and it sounds like a healthy second serving of a good show that i really like.

I was so lucky that i picked this anime up on DVD for my collection, because i can say with a firm mind, this is my favourite anime. after recently finishing it, i feel a warm spot from the space it left when it was done, yet i also feel a bit or regret knowing it is all over and done with. like the main character, i wanted this show to last just a little longer so it could really enthral me in the tales of oldhome and the angelic euphoria that is this shows setting.
i cried for about 40 minutes at the conclusion of
...
this show due to the music this show has to accompany it's run time along with the raw emotion the show produces, it is truly a show that uses an ideal setting to make the viewer inquire about the situation the main characters are in.
the animation is very cute and light, the characters are not overly detailed in any way but the show in all honesty looks really nice with the surrounding scenery being the real playmaker of the art, with the high point of the show being all of the varied environments that the characters venture to. even the places that where specific to the last episode of the show are extremely memorable.
the characters in this show are all enjoyable to be around, serve their purpose, and understandably take a back seat to Rekki and Rakka. they do still show signs of being their own distinct characters, but they do end up fading behind the main characters. the mains, really earn their spots however, these are some of the most meticulous characters ever written. their voices reflect differently based on what they think and feel. just amazing.
i don't think i will ever watch an anime with better music in ti then this show, amongst everything that happens in the episode, the outro song "blue flow" is one of the highlights for me as it is so beautifully weightless, it had me on the verge of tears every time an episode ended. the OP is also an amazing song that has its high triumphant points, along with it's cute piano tune to contrast. just unbelievable.
the voice acting like the rest of the show is amazing, with my highlight from the show being T Axelrod, the old cloths maker. but every main characters performance is emotional, and just makes me think, characters don't always need to yell and scream to show how they feel. this show makes that obvious.
i am so happy i found this show because it legitimately made me feel something that really can't be felt by any other median, i can't even explain who it made me feel to be honest.
some people will say, you are over reacting, and yeah maybe i am, but i don't mind. i am just glad i have experienced something like this, in a time where stuff like this is hard to come by anymore. i love it with all my heart.

this show is the crem de le crem of it's category. quite frankly, i love anime that forces its main characters to experience PTSD worthy shit. just because, in western entertainment they never go far enough. and when they do, it seems to end up being hooky and cheese.
in anime, the sadistic content is never half baked, and they leave nothing to chance. and that is what i love about this game and this show, it made me want to vomit and jizz at the same time.
this is because of its breakneck pacing, for example, the first episode explains the entire game to the characters,
...
and then a character gets electrocuted and shits and pisses herself, and then outta nowhere one of the main characters finds out the main male character is aroused by violent sexual suffering, so in the ensuing madness, she grabs and fondles his raging boner, and strikes up a deal with him to save his reputation.
if in any other situation, the shock would ware off and the entire experience would become tedious. however it stays "fresh" for a majority, and its just enjoyable. i think there might be something wrong with me.

I hate when a show is as down the middle as this one is. it has nice art, fun music that adds to the overall experience. the characters are mostly enjoyable, and there was only ever one that really got to me in a way that made me want to stop watching.
however.
i feel that this show could have done much better with its run time. maybe spend a little less time having two characters talk. i love plot heavy shows with a bunch of talking and crazy realisations, but it feels like that's all this show has to sustain a majority of its episodes.
at
...
the end of one of the episodes, a character that we think is a main character, is killed.
this would be a gigantic moment for any other show, and while we get teased with the hope of a giant fight at the end of the episode, at the start of the next episode we get a one sided killing that also turns out to be a bait and switch.
its stuff like this that hurts the entire series, because it gives the viewer the impression that the characters are gonna talk each other to death. but other then that the characters are likeable, and i like how index herself, is a person labelled with so much power, yet she is helpless. that's an interesting dynamic.

usually i am not this divided on a show when i am finished watching it. but this show had so much to live up to and it fails to be a meaningful experience. this show is biased of the first game "Trigger happy havoc." a game that i would call a must play. and the game has i think 27 hours plus of story to tell. to only have 13 episodes to tell this story is ludicrous to be honest. but this is what the fans of the franchise where given and to tell the truth this creates a very pointless watch for anyone who
...
has played or is planing to play the game.
this show does not omit any of the major plot points of the game which is a good thing. but it does take quite a few liberty's to get them done in a way that dose not take up to much time. i can see why this was done but this creates a very rushed feel that only works about 40% of the time.
the characters don't fare any better in terms of the issue of time. most of the characters that have very little to do with our main Mokoto Nagi also seem to have a very little amount of interaction with the audience. with most of them not even saying much before there death. for example (SPOILERS) in the second episode i think the baseball guy (Leon) kills another character and is then accused of the murder. for memory i don't think he even say's 30 words before this is revealed. this is one example of a character that someone will know nothing about unless they had played the game. if you had not played the game and only seen the show what is the fat guy's (Hifumi)'s favourite thing to do?
dispute these issues i really had fun watching this show but that is not a recommendation. i really wished that this would be great but it just does not get there. and that is a shame.
if you watch this and you have a favourite character just don't be surprised of they don't
get a fair run.
6/10 i guess is fair for this show.

for fuck sake i wanted this. why can't i have good things. this show try's admirably to recreate it's original material. the issue is the fact that prefixing a sentence with the word "admirably" usually means that it dose not hit the mark. this is like putting "has potential" in the pro's category. everything has potential.
this show starts with perhaps one of the best first episodes of all time. and it constantly goes down hill afterwards. and not like a fun downhill like "weeeeeee a rollercoster" but more like an "oh shit i came in my wife early and now the cum down will
...
be awkward as fuuuuuuuuuuck."
the shows main character Ganta is very by the books kid that seems to always work there way into this type of show. Yukiteru of the future diary, Ganta from this show, Nagi from danganrompa and multiple bland teens who have one or two ok trates. i am ok with Nagi due to the fact that he is held up by other better characters. ganta's character kinda has something to lean on as he has shiro (another character that befriends him) but this still does not make him interesting.
the show has a cool concept but almost negates it entirely for most of the season. this is like if prison school had used the school prison angle for a few episodes and then the rest of the show is just the guy fucking around outside the fucking prison. whats worse is the fact that the show had pretty much an awesome story that it just throws in the trash. fuck this waist of time.

i don't know what this show's intentions where or if it was biased of a visual novel or manga but all i can say is the fact that it felt like it had no real direction at first. the concept of a kid dying and being reincarnated into a dog that only one women can hear is an interesting idea. however it is the rest that becomes an issue.
our main is a teen boy who loves books. after we are introduced to our main we find out that he loves a specific author who comes into play as a main character later. our main (we
...
will call him andy) is killed in a coffee shop robbery after attempting to defend a women at gunpoint. we find out that this women is the author the he loves and after andy is reincarnated into the dog she is the only one who can hear his voice. no reason is given for her being able to hear him but i guess it was easier to do then having to use emotion to show how he feels i guess.
we also find that this author girl is a detective, a dominatrices, a compulsive liar apon other things.
this show seems to be different and it does have some things that it does really well but the problem is it's lack of reasons to exist. i could recommend a shit-ton of better shows with very simmaler feelings to this one. this show does not really deliver on what i had hoped it would. and it was also responsible for me breaking up with one of my girlfriends so shit. 4/10

why when i think of this show do it also think of school days. the only answer is how it builds itself up to a bombshell ending. everything changes at one very particular point in the show and after that the show completely focuses on the unbelievably cruel concept of the show itself. the fact is this show is not great. i wound not say it's good. but it is different to anything i have seen while watching anime.
the shows main character Saya is not great and at times can be completely unbearable due to the lack of character. she fit's into the
...
yuno gassi character of being an undeniably cute but also a natural born killer. this is fine in theory due to the fact that saya is the lonely pawn in the giant game of chess and she is being used to make the shared continue. but the problem is the fact that yuno is only ever a cute character for no longer than 10 minutes in most of the episodes. in this show saya is almost always happy and contempt. this obviously serves to build the cruelty by the end but it is to long before it happens. this removes me personally from the experience.
this is the biggest problem with the show but there are some smaller problems that plaque the show itself.
its a shame but there are some things that you should watch this show for the shock of the ending.

using guns to create a moral wall with characters can be really hard. and it can especially be difficult to create a story where a young cute girl is competent with a gun or relies on a gun to stay safe. or at least it is hard to do it right. which is why nine times out of ten we get a gungale online or something like that. it's not always like this but for the most part it is.
this show is not however. this show is the complete opposite. and it is one of the best shows i have ever seen for it.
...
when a show bases all of the main characters on little girls who have no hope for the world other than being able to clear out a room full of Russian (or Italian or whatever) cretins with nothing but pin point accuracy and the sass of a P90. it sets a very unorthodox premise that also breaths life into the show.
this show has a weird thing where the characters have very little from the beginning and by the end they still don't have much. but this works because the characters are pretty much fucked in the brain from the beginning.
the entire identity and asteteic of this show is purely melancholy. even the positive characters never really have anything positive about them. there are no overwhelmingly positive characters which does not cheapen the experience because it feels like the show is not fully placing all it's eggs in the "wish fulfilment" basket. if a character is left with questions that go unanswered then it is not because of bad story writing and is more because some things don't need an ending
this is one of the most genuine anime i have seen so far and i have yet to see another on the same level. also that first opening is amazing.
