Seishun Buta Yarou is full of cliches, and over-used themes. The art is nothing out of the ordinary, and the writing is odd and confusing, and yet it is one of my favorite Animes.
What makes this story great is the way it uses these already seen tropes to showcase types of depression and emotional turmoil. The character interactions are brilliant, entertaining, and genuinely funny. In this story, no character is able to overcome its own insecurities without another, and in turn, each character is supported by every other one. A fantastic depiction of how depression can affect us, how it is ok to accept it
